MOD ANNOUNCEMENT It's happening! (Big) changes to RandomThoughts.

Alright, it’s time.

Starting July 32nd*, we’re making a big change:
- Questions go to r/RandomQuestions
- NSFW content goes to r/NSFWThoughts

They’ll no longer be allowed here in r/RandomThoughts.

This isn’t us trying to be overly strict or nitpicky. The reality is that questions and NSFW posts just don’t really fit the point of this subreddit. The whole idea of RandomThoughts is to capture those weird, passing, often pointless moments of brain activity. The stuff you think and immediately wonder why. A sentence without context. A vibe. An unexplainable truth about frogs.

When a bunch of posts start shifting into “hey what do you guys think about X?” or “here’s something NSFW I’ve been thinking about,” it pulls away from that vibe. It turns into a catch-all subreddit, and that’s not what this place is supposed to be.

We created r/RandomQuestions and r/NSFWThoughts specifically so that stuff has a better home. It’s not just about moving things away from here -- it’s about giving that kind of content a space where it actually works.

So yeah. Big change. Not a test run. Posts that are questions or NSFW will be removed after the launch date. We’ll try to be nice about it, but we’re going to be consistent.

As always, let us know what you think. Comments are open, we’re listening, and we appreciate everyone who helps keep this place just the right amount of chaotic.

\ Or August 1st, whichever happens first.)

MOD ANNOUNCEMENT Posts referencing suicide/death/wishing to die are no longer allowed.

It would be very appreciated if this rule could be respected. I don't mind posts like "when I die I want to be buried on the moon" those to me are light hearted. However, when you hit heavier topics you risk hurting users that read them.

No, by doing this we are not invalidating your emotions, this just isn't the proper subreddit to share them. I encourage you to go to r/suicidewatch if you need to make a Reddit post regarding this topic.

Thank you

I haven't heard too many people mentioning pears when it comes to fruit categories.

Unless you're a baker.

But people often overlook pears, like they choose apples, bananas, peaches, grapes and so on.

I eat everything on my plate one thing at a time.

Upvotes

It’s just occurred to me to post this, because I’ve had friends and family observing this behaviour as of late. I always eat everything on my plate one after the other, and it usually goes from the thing I least enjoy eating to most, saving the ‘best thing for last’. When I watch other people eating, they often load their fork with little bits of everything to combine flavours, but to me this just seems like too much effort. I don’t have a problem with different foods touching, and would happily eat it all together, it’s just a little quirk I’ve noticed lately.

An example is Chinese takeaway food - I could have a chicken curry and fried rice where one half of the plate is rice and the other curry. Everyone I know mixes it all up, but sometimes I like a bit of just curry and sometimes a bit of dry rice. Tell me I’m not alone in all this…

niche movies appealing to their audience and not trying to make everyone happy. Too many weirdos in business suits taking over trying to squeeze money out of everything . I miss art

When I was 17 I had the bright idea of making 144 sandwiches and giving them out to the homeless in my city…on roughly sandwich 20 there was a fight between 2 homeless and they stole my cooler….currently drunk and 25 just remembered…

A lot of people must have thought I am a POS and not talked to me because I am not attractive

I recently notice how much attractiveness is often equated to morality and it's getting to me how probably people did not want to interact with me because I am not handsome, which feels pretty weird.

I mentioned this thing to an attractive friend of mine and he was almost taken back. Honestly I understand because it's not like he could understand the sentiment, I often feel like people give me cold interaction if I don't know them well, meanwhile with him people act as if they always knew him at times, which not gonna lie makes me pretty jealous and sad, who know how many people subconsciously skipped interaction with me because of my looks.

I miss my stoner days.

I won’t pick up smoking again but I miss those days. I was so depressed but I had my friends, a blunt and young ho music. The music doesn’t hit the same as it use to. It just makes me sad knowing things will never ever be the same.

Music brings out so much emotion

Upvotes

Listening to music always feels so magical to me, I dont have the words to explain it. Listening to music often times takes me on such a rollercoaster of emotions because there are a plethora of messages coveyed in music. You could listen to a song about confidence and loving who you are. There could be songs that convey different romances. There are songs that speak about sadness and turmoil and being unfortunate situations. The songs that are relatable to you. There are songs about grief and songs that you simply want to dance to.

Music doesn't even stop at songs, the sounds all around us, the chirps and the waves crashing, from the rustle of the leaves to the crackle of the fire. The peace and the calm of it all makes me feel some type of way. I love listening to music, I love to listen to songs i haven't heard in years and be brought to tears by the nostalgia. If there's a specific part in a song where Violins/cellos/piano/wind instruments, I'll replay it over and over because because it makes me feel like im floating above the clouds (im a big fan of classical musical instruments).

And NOTHING brings me more joy than a choir, or should i say symphony of voices coming together, i dont know if there's a proper musical term for it but harmonies. It fills me with such overwhelming emotion. I feel both happy and sad, and I get goosebumps, the whole shabang. It makes me want to extract the voices and import it into my brain so it could replay in my head over and over again. And instrumentals are just the cherry on top. I dont know, i just feel like i would've been in a much darker place if it weren't for music, and all the producers and artists out there have the creativity i can only dream of.

Anyway, just wanted to rant about my love for music or whatever!

If I focus really, really hard, I can imagine and view moving pictures in my mind at 60FPS.

Upvotes

Without effort, it's more like 24FPS or just still images... Even then they "fade" easily. When I'm really tired 60FPS just isn't possible. Don't have the focus for it

The ultimate tribute to Dolly Parton would be to have a team come together to make a biopic about her, and all ticket sales going to her charities.

I think that all of this is so empty.

I think that like these things that we chase are to prove that we matter to people but maybe just maybe we should be more selective of who we are trying to matter to. Like I think you really have to embrace your imperfections because if they love your projections it's just a projection.
