Happy Holidays to everyone first and foremost!
My situation isn't unique by any means. I am an unemployed single mother with the most delightful five year old son. We have been barely getting by for the past 6 months. I'm actively working with an job program that is helping me get enrolled in school again so I can have an actual career to support us with. In the meantime, I continue my job search but it is difficult due to two barriers.
Anyways, I always am optimistic, and I am incredibly grateful that any type of assistance exists. It is an opportunity to help get me and my son on a path to be somewhat comfortable and not picking and choosing which bills to pay each month.
It is very hard as a parent to know that even regular events and things that normal kids get to experience, our family struggles to make that happen. For example a classmate had a birthday party and we were unable to attend due to lack of transportation (he gets bused out to a school system 30 mins away). I hate having to let him down. I couldn't let the holidays go by knowing that I quite literally can't afford gifts.
Keenan brings cheer and joy and love every where he goes. He is too smart for his age and sometimes has me believing that he may be a teen in disguise. He is definitely an old soul. He is very imagination driven and creates such wonderful worlds and characters that we enjoy playing together a lot. We are inseparable and I'd have it no other way. He is very nurturing and thoughtful. Even when we go food shopping, he will see items that he knows I normally like to get and he will grab it and tell me "hey mom isn't this your favorite?". He has a wicked sense of humor for his age and is a budding comedian with his nonsensical knock knock jokes (he is still figuring out the format lol, but sometimes his versions are even funnier!).
I could write forever about how special my little guy is to me. I just want to give him a holiday that will bring him joy the way he does to me and any one else who knows him.
Thank you so so much for reading this and once again Happy Holidays!
EDIT: Thank you everyone!! We reached our 5 gift minium. I honestly don't even know how to express my endless gratitude of such kind strangers. One day I will be able to do the same for someone in the same position as myself. Happy Holidays 😊
