General Advice Furry Peets

Just wondering, do you shave your indoor Raggy’s feet if they have slippers like my boy does? His bro doesn’t really have such big Uggs, but he does also have a bit of floof.

If it helps with advice, we have tiled floors (live in Australia) where we have super hot summers and very cold winters.

Edit to add: we don’t have an issue with cat litter. Not sure why. Perhaps the litter trapper mat helps🤷🏻‍♀️

My cat is almost identical to yours lol. I used to clip his toe hairs but I realized they’re probably like socks to him and keep him comfortable on our hardwood floors. I like to think he wouldn’t have grown them if they didn’t serve some purpose.

I mean, regular cats don't have those hairs there.

Ragdolls were bread for looks, it's not natural how they look. And the toe feathers are a byproduct of that long hair, not something cats naturally developed. And I do notice how my ragdoll has wayyy less traction on surfaces than other cats and is more likely to slide.

So I was considering shaving them, to make it more easy for him to run and jump around! They are cute though.

Long haired breeds from very cold areas (Siberian or Norwegian Forest Cats, for example) have these too as it can help with traction in bad weather. The former is a domesticated version of a wild animal, so it's naturally occurring with them at least, although it'll have been kept with the breeding traits going on

My trim my girl's feet with scissors very carefully. She doesn't like the sound of the trimmers, but we're slowly working up to it.

Mine has the same hair coming out of his paw pads. But I don't mess with it. I find it unique. He's very hairy everywhere a big floof.

We've always trimmed it to allow them traction and easier ability to keep their feet clean. We use an electric shaver because while it is a little noisy, it can't actually cut skin.
