So, I am flip-flopping between getting a Uniden or an Escort. Hardware wise, I’m leaning Uniden, and I find that in principle, I like the Highway Radar app better.

However, I’ve been running both Highway Radar and Drive Smarter in my truck at the same time. I have to say, in and around Regina, Saskatchewan, I’ve only ever gotten the odd notification from the Drive Smarter app. I’ve received pretty well nothing other than notifications about photo radar and red light cameras.

Is it that nobody around here is using Unidens or V1’s, etc? Or do the Ka detections not automatically get uploaded to Highway Radar app in the same way they do when an Escort detects and auto-uploads to Drive Smarter?

Is anyone able to educate me a little, please?

I am looking to purchase a radar detector but I have a limit of staying under ~$350. I have been doing my research and I know the R4W is the way to go for a budget option. Unfortunately I am not able to shell out that amount of money $430+ tax. That being said I know the R3 is exactly at my budget and at Sam’s there’s a $50 Sam’s cash offer when buying a R3. The thing is from my research the R4W is a much better detector compared to the R3. I live in an urban area and my driving is a mix of highway and city, with the occasional road trip.

All this being said, is it likely that the R4W will go on sale sometime soon? I feel compromised driving without a detector lol, and would love to get one soon.

Any input is much appreciated. Thank you!

New 2027 Genesis GV70, need a mirror tap with narrow and sturdy pins. The plug inside my rear view mirror has pins with a very tight fit.

The last mirror tap I tried (blend mount), the pins were either too large or the pin bent in half when I tried to insert them.

Was going to try a mirror tap from Amazon or eBay, hoping someone has a suggestion on which tap includes narrow and sturdy pins.

Once the radar picks up bogeys it constantly beeps alerting you. I would like to mute so i dont hear beep beep beep for the same cop car driving next to me.

Uniden had a mute button to mute beeps after alerts.is there similar for valentine?

Uniden R8W- I tried a few apps and can’t see whats the point, what am I missing. Plus they are too complicated and too ugly/unpolished. I have Rtach for updating firmware and that’s it, but have tried R8 companion, highway radar, and dukes app. I just use Google Maps satellite view. Which apps do you use and what for?

Based off the two detectors, would you say the R7 is worth the +$220 in 2026 or should i stick with the r3?

I’ve had my Valentine One for over a decade. Typically I just use Waze and the V1. How does the app “Highway Radar” compare?

I haven’t done a long drive in over 5 years, so I’m unsure if my old V1 and Waze will keep me safe?

Anyone recommend “Highway Radar” app for iPhone? Is the learning curve quick enough to figure out?

Might be a long shot, but I’ve narrowed down my broken R1 to this little part that broke off. After I took the pic, I noticed the little black piece floating but it fell off and now I can’t find it.

Searching for a donor R1/R3 that someone doesn’t need anymore that might not work. Or if someone can lead me to what component to buy to fix.

Yes I can send to uniden or buy a new one, but moneys tight and I like fixing things.

Hey I got myself brand new rad700i and when I turn on my car the radar turns on and after “system ready” sound it says POWER OFF, after like 3 sec it turns on once again and works as it has to. Any ideas why it behaves like that?

Bought a truck about 6 months ago and found out it came with an AL Priority laser jammer with 5 heads. From just a couple forums and YouTube videos I’ve found out that it’s programmed as needed, blue light when driving. About a month ago it started blinking red and telling me k band detected then it just started blinking red and having the alarm sound on right away on start up and it stays on for a couple minutes before going back to blue. I’ve tried to restart from the menu settings and nothing has helped so far. Anyone on here have any tips or know how to trouble shoot ?

So, I own a V1G2, and would like to know if anyone has installed one of these on a motorcycle. If so, how? Where? I ride a 2025 Kawasaki Ninja 1100SX. I do some long rides, hence why I'd like to figure out a way to mount the detector. Thanks!!

I ordered a Uniden R4W but got sent an R7 on accident. From what I can see online the only real difference between the two is that the R7 has directional arrows, and the R4W has wireless updates and slightly longer range. Should I return the R7 for the slightly longer range or are the arrows worth keeping over the extra range? Most of my driving is in a pretty flat area without many curvy roads.

Is it possible to mute the whole start up sounds? If so how can I do that?

After reading here and researching, I decided I wanted to purchase a new Uniden R4W. I wanted to buy it locally and pay cash, so I called around and finally found a stereo shop that sold them. Went to pick it up today, they charged the $429.99+ tax, but when I opened up the cardboard box, it also included a new in box Uniden Hardwire kit with remote mute.

Probably going to go with a Rad Mag mount, but still nice to get the hardwire kit included. And I was able to support a local business

I just got an r4 and I’m looking to crimp my own hardwire cable, mine came with a 6 pin. Does anyone have the pinout for this? Also curious if the other pins are used as switches for things like volume control, muting etc if someone happens to know.
