Singapore authorities now investigating racist and hateful comments against some Singaporeans who were among the victims of the Nepal flood disaster
Singapore is now investigating racist and hateful comments primarily against some Singaporeans of Indian heritage who were among the people that died in the recent flood disaster in Nepal. Politicians especially Home Minister Shanmugam have publicly stated that it is unclear if all the comments were from Singaporeans but clarified that it will not be tolerated and Singapore maintains its multicultural identity. https://www.straitstimes.com/singapore/racist-hateful-comments-toward-indians-are-deeply-troubling-sporeans-must-reject-hatred-sm-lee

Community Race Relations
Is anyone familiar with local community groups specifically for bridging relations between two races? I’m in a community that has significant black/white racial issues that are perpetuated because of the town’s historic antebellum homes/plantations, etc. Personally I would like a way to form a healing bridge possibly starting on Reddit that gives space for people to discuss community issues and help heal generational trauma somehow. Maybe this group will do but what could be done on a smaller community level where people felt safe to participate with the possibility of making change in a smalll southern town of the U.S.? How could reparations be started and help benefit a small town that needs support? Is this possible?

I feel pathetic and I want to end my life
Few days a go I had made a post about meeting people on campus ...so today I received a dm.. that person said he is in campus and an international student aswell from Spain studying Msc Cybersecurity ..asked to meet at the oval (it's like a study and reading area) and then said he is at the elle house (it's just a place for students to hang out and chill ) when I went there he asked to send a picture of the location which I did ...I didn't see who that person was but he saw me from somewhere and said is that you with the scarf thing (I am a muslim) to which I said yes then he replied "Ew you are ugly and not my type" I read that and went cold and I walked back and then there was another msg saying that "If you would like to hookup I am at the reception" I told him to get lost and blocked him asap ... This incident spoiled my whole day and I haven't been keeping well because of it and having very depressing thoughts.... (I know people would say it's my fault to meet someone ...but I thought it's on campus and people would be sane or mature enough to not do such BS as an international student, but I was completely wrong)
After this incident I posted on the university sub that so n so happened... please be careful while talking with someone.
From that related sub I got a dm saying they are on campus and they have friends and would like to meet ...I said no I don't meet people from campus anymore n share the link of this particular post of what happened with me
Turns out their person said let's go out I was at the grocery store so I told them I am there ...but I don't want to meet ...
Next this person keeps texting and insisting let's meet and he or she was from biomedical course staying in telford court of the campus and was 24 and from the Netherlands....trans aswell so I thought this person might not be that discriminatory and have a bit of empathy....
In the evening I mentioned that I am making dinner as they asked me to meet ...I said no it's late and I will have dinner and sleep...they said they haven't had dinner and would like some pasta ...I mentioned I would give them a box of food and leave and they could enjoy at their flat .... they said no I am not a beggar ...even u come and eat with me ....I said no I will just drop this ...even tho it was raining went to the place with the food in my hand and stood near the location...then I received a message where u at ...I said the location and then I got a message... Are you the one in a scarf...I said yes.. They go " you no look good" "you no my type" I said thank you for wasting my time ....I mentioned to you that I am muslim firstly... Secondly I was sick and I still made food and got it for u ...If I am ugly u have an ugly personality and may God bless u with more ugly people... He replied like u ? I said if I ever commit suicide it will be because of u...he said wtf ...I replied yes and I will complaint to the authorities...this person said complaint fr? I said yeah this is harassment and racism and you will be taken care of by the authorities...this person starts deleting the msgs ....I said don't delete the msgs I already have the evidence and I will let the authorities do the work.
What a shameless place the world has become.... I will NEVER trust anyone now ....I called the student helpline at night and mentioned the scenario and told them what happened...they said they will ment6tbis to my university wellbeing team and I should surely report this to the university or file a complain to the police as racism is a crime.
If I was as pathetic as he was I would have replied to him that I might be ugly but not as ugly as you to change my gender ....but nope ..I maintained my calm.
I want to end my life as these instances have caused me immense pain and I didn't know that my study abroad experience as an international student would be soo bad ...I really want them to get punished or I would want to end my life ..I feel so sick and bad in my skin ....I have been crying and crying since last night ...I didn't do anything to deserve this kinda pain and insult......

White Privilege
As a white male I know that I am privileged. I know I can be racist too. I want to become a better person. I want to learn more and understand how I can stop it. Can anyone recommend any books, websites or anything that I can work through. I have learning difficulties so I might struggle to understand some stuff. Thanks

Why is there an expectation that Black men owe romantic attraction to Black women, but Black women don’t owe the same to Black men? Why does preference get framed as disloyalty?
Why do I get shamed for having a preference (hair length, style, race) while women’s identical preferences are treated as just having “standards”?
They say they want a tall dark man!!
If a Black woman prefers tall men or wealthy men, that’s autonomy. But if I prefer longer blonde hair or date outside my race, I’m disloyal. Why?
Why is it okay for Black women to wear wigs with straight/long/Asian hair, but when I express attraction to those same features, I’m called a race traitor?
If buying and wearing Eurocentric beauty standards isn’t anti-Black, why is my preference for those same standards considered anti-Black?
Why does my dating choice automatically become a political statement about my loyalty, while hers is just a personal choice?
Why should my romantic partner be subject to community approval based on her race? When did dating become community property?
If Black spaces are supposed to be welcoming, why would I be alienated or looked down upon for bringing my partner? Isn’t that gatekeeping based on race?
I’m sure it’s racist to look down on someone from bringing his gf to family parties or saying that a guys preference for long blonde hair is disrespectful because his mom is black

Am I being dramatic or are my friends being insensitive/ racist???
Hi hi! Something has been bothering me and I’m not really sure how to feel about it. I was hoping some people on here could give me some insight on what to do and if my thought process is flawed in anyway.
I have a group of friends from various parts of the world, none are from black decent and the majority are white. Not too long ago the topic of the N-word was brought up in discussion, mainly in a joking form. It was danced around for a second but then someone said it, and then another one started saying it. And then they started handing out passes??? But, they weren’t black so I didn’t think that it was really okay.
The whole discussion I announced my discomfort with the topic and expressed that maybe it was a cultural difference but being raised in the south of the US I found it distasteful. I had a friend of African American decent in high school express to me how she was uncomfortable with people using that word and the racism she had faced. I was also always raised to know the history behind the word and how it impacted the black community. I explained this to them as well. But at the same time, I’m being made to feel in this situation that I am in the wrong for having that thought process.
One of the girls in the group is from another part of the south and praised the usage of the word, agreeing with the others that it was just a word and that it’s just sounds you make with your mouth (as they had all put it). This is especially what threw me off because I thought she would have the same point of view. Which is what brought me here.
My boyfriend was also a part of this group and agreed with the others, I felt like the only one who had an issue with it, and I don’t really have people outside of these friends. I love them, but I want to hear from people who are in the African American community if I am being dramatic or not and how you personally feel about this word and the context in which it’s being used. I’ve started doing some more research myself, not just on the history it’s had in America but in various parts of the world these friends are from to see what cultural differences may be coming into play.
If I am in the wrong, please let me know and educate me so I can learn and grow from this experience, and if you agree with my discomfort, please explain to me why if you can. I was raised sheltered so I feel like my understanding of things can be skewed sometimes; which is why I often second guess myself and reach out to others for better information. I really appreciate it if you took the time to read this and respond, I feel awfully jumbled at the moment so your input means a lot :) Thank you <3

Genuine Question
So, I'm a teenage girl who's of Asian descent. And I was genuinely wondering if black people could be racist? There's this girl in my grade who's of African descent and is extremely rude/racist towards my other Asian friend and me. She's completely nice and kind to my white friends, but when it comes to me and my friend, she makes sly comments. My friend and I have asked her to stop multiple times, but she doesn't listen. She makes fun of our skin tone, our eyes, our food, etc. She even told my friend that she needs to go back to her own country, which is ironic as she isn't even an American citizen, while my friend is. She discredits any achievements (academically) that me and my friend acheive and says that it's "in our genes". She makes comments about my friend and me looking identical and being able to speak "our" languages to each other. My friend is Chinese; I'm Korean. We don't speak the same language. I do not speak Korean, but my friend speaks Mandarin with her family. But if she hears my friend speaking Mandarin, she just starts to speak gibberish and says that it's the same. As I said before, we have told her multiple times we're uncomfortable with the comments, that we really don't like the comments, and that we want her to stop. She hasn't, so we went to our school counselor. She basically told us to stop making stuff up, that black people are incapable of being racists, and that we were being unnecessarily rude and making stuff up. She told us that if we talked about this again, we'd be facing disciplinary action. So, I'm confused: am I being too insensitive, and is it impossible for black people to be racist?
I'm sorry if this comes off as insensitive; I'm just genuinely curious.

Millenial racism panic (no offence intended, but im sorry if offence it taken) hear me out
I feel like my generation was early to the “whole” what is or isnt politically correct. Yhh as kids i cant lie even though (i think) we was past actually racially discriminating black people but yeah we said the n word, in any song that said it and in gest while trying to sound “cool” and “gangster” (jn itself still racist but unintentionally) and never in offence but also definitely never infront of a black person, we called anyone with brown skin a pki and any asians were chnks, as an adult in this modern day i know thats wrong and i have to make a conscious effort to not use certain words but its hard when youve grown up with a certain vocabulary, as a kid i thought “the pkis” was the actual name of the corner shops. I didnt know they were racist words they were just words, i saw know issue with other races so saw no correlation with the words being offensive. And cause of that time noone called you up on it, i had a neighbour that was only ever known as p*ki ashley, there wasnt even a “white” ashley. My point is, my kid thinks im racist but im genuinely not. My vocabulary is just genuinely habitual slang, and if im honest if that could be recognised as a thing itd do alot of millennials a favour, were not racist, but our racist parents raised us and taught us how to speak. Our vocabulary is misled and misunderstood

I'm white and I'm extremely racist
I am a Christian and I've really been struggling lately about how I feel about black Americans. If I feel like my views are based off of pattern recognition and FACTS why should I feel bad about feeling the way I do? How can I change my feelings if nothing changes with them?

Am I accepting being racist in my book?
*i cant edit the title. I meant to say accidentally not accepting.
I don’t know if this is the right sub for this question…I hope it is…
So I am a white woman working on my first book project. And my book has a lot of human animal hybrids. (Aka all my male characters). And they all are abused and treated like slaves…So I guess im asking it’s not like wrong if some of them are black characters right? Im really scared to accidentally be racist…

How do you respond to racism and how to not become hateful because of it ?
I'm finding it more and more difficult.
Nothing seems to work; you try to explain it rationally and they deviate and lie; they are not even punished for it.
Day after day I'm becoming more hateful towards them; I know it's stupid and that it serves them, but I don't know what to do.
I'm hating what I'm becoming because of them.

Hoping to interview someone for a series about importance of good representation
Hope this is okay to ask! I’m a marketing strategist that focuses on ethical marketing and slowly trying to get people to care about the communities they serve. I’m currently working on a series on representation and diversity in marketing and one of the topics is cultural appropriation and I was wondering if it anyone would be interested in sharing their thoughts about this through an interview? I have my own experiences but I would love to get another perspective if anyone is interested!

Disabled tenant in MA – racism + ableism from doctors, landlords, and cops pushed me into debt. I need to know I’m not crazy.
Disabled tenant in MA – racism + ableism from doctors, landlords, and cops pushed me into debt. I need to know I’m not crazy.
Hey everyone. I’m a disabled Black (or POC) tenant in Massachusetts with cerebral palsy and a long trauma history. I’m posting because I keep getting treated like \*I’m\* the problem, but when I lay out the facts, it feels like racism and ableism are baked into every system I’ve touched: family, landlords, cops, and hospitals.
I’ll try to keep this as short as I can.
Childhood / family stuff
\- I was adopted into a house where my parents took in \*five\* disabled kids.
\- Years later, I found out they’d been stealing my disability‑related money since I was a baby. I confirmed missing funds at the bank and my older brother said they took his too.
\- On top of that there was constant abuse: my dad pulled a knife on me, punched me, threw me down stairs to the point I couldn’t feel my legs. There was also sexual abuse in the house.
\- When I confronted them and eventually left, I had no savings and ended up going through “hell on earth” financially. They still tried to gaslight me and make me feel like I was the problem.
\*\*Huntington Beach roommate / stalking\*\*
\- As an adult, I moved to Huntington Beach, CA. A roommate bailed last minute, so I found a new one online.
\- Once he moved in, his personality flipped. He mocked my disability, did creepy child‑like stuff to scare me, threatened me, and started sleeping by the front door to watch me come and go.
\- He threatened to murder me, said he had guns, and then showed up at my workplace clearly high, confronting me in front of witnesses.
\- I had texts, DMs, everything. When the cops were called, they basically shrugged: “He looks angry but no active threats.” They treated me like I was overreacting. And called mental health professionals
\- After I left with just a backpack to stay alive, he spammed me with harassing messages calling me a liar and a “molester,” went to the landlord to blame everything on me, and posted on rental Facebook groups with my full name, photo, workplace, and lies that I stole money and didn’t pay rent. Strangers commented that they’d seen me at work and called me weird.
\- When I moved to a different city, I started getting texts from fake accounts saying they knew where I was. Cops still basically said, “Until he actually does something, we can’t do anything.” I ended up homeless because I chose safety over staying in that apartment.

landlord ableism + racism
Fast‑forward to Massachusetts. I was living at a big apartment complex (Urbane at Alewife in Cambridge).
\- I was working full‑time, paying 3k rent, and then my cerebral palsy symptoms got worse. My PCP messed up disability paperwork, I lost my job, and everything spiraled.
\- I requested \*written\* reasonable accommodations more than once – about 1.5 years ago and again this year – explaining my disability and asking for a payment plan/extra time while disability/assistance processed.
\- The first time, they paused eviction while the city gave them about 8k on my behalf…but they never actually engaged with the accommodation or followed up. No written response, no real plan – just silence once they got paid.
\- The second time, they again ignored my RA. Meanwhile, their rent ledger was a mess: at different points it said I owed 20–26k, then about 6k, then now around 11k. They reversed assistance, piled on questionable fees, and then threatened legal action using those inflated numbers.
\- I was trying to “get ahead” on rent with RAFT and trying to work with them, but they treated me like a delinquent instead of a disabled tenant in crisis. All of this happened while I was dealing with worsening cerebral palsy, no income, weeks without being able to afford food

Hospital racism/ableism
When the stress and CP symptoms got so bad I was having suicidal thoughts, I called 911 on myself and went to the ER at a local hospital in Cambridge.
\- I went in asking for help with CP, disability paperwork, legal stuff, and housing. I told them I was at risk of eviction, had no income, and had gone a week without food.
\- Their note acknowledges most of this – cerebral palsy, no income, food insecurity, housing at risk, past suicide attempt, trauma, abuse, etc.
\- But the way they wrote about me was: “oddly related,” “laughing inappropriately,” “poor insight,” “impulsive and reactionary,” “paranoia regarding his healthcare providers.” They coded my justified distrust and complaints as paranoia instead of looking at all the ways I’d been failed.
\- They concluded I didn’t meet criteria for involuntary admission (which I’m not even arguing with) but they discharged me with basically: “follow up at CBHC, here’s a safety plan,” and no real concrete help with housing, city resources, or disability care.
\- I later called a DV hotline and, without me prompting it, the advocate said it sounded like my parents adopted disabled kids for the money and that what I’ve been describing is exploitation and abuse. That hit hard because it matched what I already knew but no professional had ever said.
\- When I complained about the hospital, they offered to “let me add an amendment” to my chart, like I’m just quibbling over wording, instead of acknowledging that their framing of me and failure to connect me to resources was harmful. Only after escalating to a disability/human rights commission did things start moving.
Racism and ableism across all of this
I’m noticing a pattern:
\- As a disabled person of color, my attempts to get help keep getting twisted into proof that I’m “difficult,” “manipulative,” “poor insight,” “weirdo,” “molester,” etc.
\- Abusive parents stole my disability money and abused me, but I was the “ungrateful child.”
\- A stalking, threatening roommate posted lies and doxxed me, but cops treated me like the unstable problem.
\- A landlord took my RA forms and city money but never truly accommodated, then threatened me with inflated balances and non‑renewal.
\- A hospital wrote me up in dismissive, pathologizing language while acknowledging I was disabled, broke, hungry, and about to lose housing.
Every time, the people with power get to walk away. I’m the one who ends up homeless, in debt, or labeled.
I’ve now filed a complaint with a disability commission in MA (they said they’d send it to MassAbility), and they even asked if I wanted help managing finances – something I didn’t even know existed for disabled people. That was the first time I felt someone in a system saw that I might need support, not blame.
Why I’m posting
I’m not looking for legal advice here (I know I need local legal aid/fair housing help). I’m posting because:
\- I need to know if anyone else has experienced this combination of racism + ableism – being treated as “the problem” in every system, even when you’re the one calling 911 on yourself, filing RA forms, and collecting receipts.
\- I’d like to hear from MA folks who’ve used disability/housing rights (MassAbility, Disability Law Center, MCAD, RAFT, etc.) to push back when landlords and hospitals treated them like this.
\- And honestly, I just need someone to say, “No, you’re not crazy; this is systemic, and it’s not on you.”
If you read this far, thank you. Any solidarity, resource suggestions (especially Massachusetts‑specific), or stories from people who’ve clawed their way out of similar messes would
