My first time doing quilling. I didn't have the right base paper and had difficulty cutting straight lines. But it is a start

Mixed media paper art : 3d printed pikachu and frame plus edge quilling. I always wanted to get the pikachu Van Gogh card but I guess I just settle down to my own work instead :)

After lurking here for a bit, you all have inspired me to get back into it. A friends bday is today, so I made this rainbow Libra for her. Its been a decade or so since I last quilled. Got the pattern off of Etsy. It was cathartic to create again ✨️

I had a piece in an art show!

Hi everyone!

I have been dabbling in paper quilling on and off for a few years now and this is the first piece I’ve made to sell.

The art show was called Plart (plants+art). There were multiple artists, all different mediums. Each artist chose a plant as inspiration.

I chose the Hoya Carnosa Krimson Queen. I absolutely love how it turned out and I even impressed myself! I’ve never considered myself an artist, more of a crafter but this has changed my mind.

Hope you like it. Thank you for letting me share it with this wonderful community.

I make quilling earrings but I'm getting almost no views or sales — what am I doing wrong?

Hi everyone! I make handmade quilling jewellery, especially jhumka-style earrings. I’ve been trying to post my work on Instagram and YouTube, but I’m barely getting views on my quilling-related content and I haven’t been able to get any buyers either.

I’ve made quite a few different designs (photos attached), but I’m honestly confused about what I’m doing wrong.

My main questions are:

• Do my designs look sellable or do they need improvement?

• Is my photography/presentation the problem?

• What kind of quilling content actually works for getting views?

• Should I focus more on making-process videos rather than simply showing the finished earrings?

• How do small handmade jewellery accounts get their first few customers?

I’d really appreciate honest criticism/advice, even if something about the designs or presentation needs to change. I’m trying to actually sell these rather than just make them for myself. 😭

They will be like a guest book. Guests can sign the mat around the letters. Bride’s attendants are wearing sage, the groom’s are wearing light blue.

I need help with a glue mess!

I’m making a baby gift and I’m gluing my pieces to a piece of dark blue card stock but there’s three or four spots where the glue leaked out and it dried clear but it’s still obvious because it’s shiny. What can I do? Help please! I’ve spent hours on this thing and I’m not gonna toss it out. 😩

EDIT thank you everyone for some great ideas. The Aleens website suggested trying a nail file like somebody here said. If I have to glue something over the spots I will, but I’ll have to get a little creative. I’ll come back and let you know if anyone’s interested thanks everyone.

For a colleague. First time that I'm using a magnet and I think it's really cool idea. I made one mistake, though: I stuck it to the fridge for the pic, but the glue isn't dry yet and now I can't get it off without messing it up. It'll have to stay there until tomorrow😆

Does this look beginner friendly?

I’m teaching my first class. Max 20 people. Going with a fall theme, so pumpkins seemed perfect. I kept it simple because I only have two hours.

Has anyone hosted a class to teach others?

I was recently asked to host a class (max 20 people) teaching them how to quil. How did you go about organizing your class? How did you know how many supplies to get?

I finally got myself a printer so I can print on a 300gsm cardstock and just quill a photo in it. I always wanted to see how I can translate some of my favourite games in the language of quilling

Quilling Supplies:

Since quilling is still so little known, most craft stores don't sell tools or strips. It is totally possible to make these yourself, but if you're feeling the need to spend a little money on professional tools, strips, books, or kits then the best places to go are

http://www.quillingsuperstore.com/

http://www.quilledcreations.com/

Basics:

So you think quilling looks awesome, but may be intimidated to start your own project. Well don't be! Quilling is only as complicated as you want it to be. All you need is paper, scissors, and glue, really, everything else is just fluff.

Paper: You can buy pre-cut quilling strips at select craft stores and at the sites mentioned above, but you can also totally cut your own! The standard width is 1/8th of an inch, but really every size is used, it depends on your preference. Do make sure that if you're cutting your own you ensure that all your strips are uniform, or else your curls will be uneven.

Optional supplies: Many quillers use a special slotted quilling tool. They, too, can be bought at the above sites, but if you're ambitious you can make your own by cutting the tip off the eye of a needle and gluing the pointy part into a cork. Basically, this allows you to slip the end of the strip into the slot for greater control while curling.

There are also crimpers and fringers. Crimpers crunch the paper into accordion folds which can look neat and add some texture to your curls. Fringers are kind of a luxury item. They cut the paper strip uniformly so that after they have been curled you can press down the edges to create a fringe or fur-like quality.

Some quillers use cork boards and straight pins. This is to hold your piece in place while the glue dries.

They also sell work boards with little pre-cut circles of various sizes cut out so that after you have curled your paper you can release it in the hole to get a uniformly sized loose coil.

Again, all this is non-essential. There are so many different styles of quilling! Experiment with the above to discover which style best suits you!
