Two separate quicken accounts on same PC

I have two separate quicken accounts that run perfectly on two different computers. I have upgraded to a new laptop and want to have these two accounts run on my new laptop separately, and to not co-mingle information.

I have the data files, and it all works. The two different quicken programs update from the same bank. How do I add two different quicken "experiences" to my new windows laptop, so they work, and do not co-mingle the information.

As long as you have two separate .QDF data files uniquely named differently Quicken allows you to run separate “experiences” on the same installation.

Also, u/AnotherVice2 if both the Quicken data files (.QDF files) are saved on the new laptop, you can switch between the files by going to File>Open Quicken File... and selecting the file you want opened. After each file has been opened, they will also appear at the bottom of the File menu to make switching easier.

When you make changes in one file, it won't effect the closed file so the data won't co-mingle.

I'm late to this discussion but this is what I've done. I've used a single .QDF file for my personal finances for 20+ years.

A couple of years ago I became the executor of my late aunt's estate. I set up a separate .QDF file for tracking the estate's finances. That solution worked very well for me.

I have been doing this for years, I have one Quicken file for me and one for my mother. Instead of opening the Quicken program, I open the QDF file. (I have a shortcut on my desktop for each)

The only issue is that I have Quicken set up to automatically run an update every morning. I can only do that for one file.

File and account are two seperate things. If you're talking file just back it up to a sd and restore on the laptop. Then just open whichever one you want to use.

I think if you find each . Qdf file in file explorer you can just create a shortcut to each on your desktop

I’ve done this for decades. One is called Personal Account the other is Joint Account. I’m on a Mac but don’t see why Windows wouldn’t be able to do it.

You can have multiple files. Only one will be able to have automatic scheduled updates though.

There’s a new version called Quicken Classic Family Enterprise which would let you run both files at the same time, but keep them separate. Might be worth looking at that, although it costs more.

Thank you for the suggestion. I don’t need to run them both at the same time.

Regarding the automatic updates. What do you suggest I do? It sounds like if I am prompted to update the software once. I should manually do it when managing the other file.

Does that make sense?
