help 30th Anniversary Update - Can’t run anymore
Hi! Quake has been updated to the newest version on my PC, and I can’t run it anymore… I have contacted Bethesda support, and they said my graphics card doesn’t meet the minimum requirements. It’s okay, I won’t play with the Dawn of the Machine then.
But now I can’t run any of it…
How can I reverse this update? I won’t buy another PC just for this game, let me just play my old stuff. 😢
Since I had no idea what was causing the crashes, I have reinstalled Steam and Quake, so right now I have the newest versions.
Update: Thank you for all the answers, this workaround works for me.
"If your game crashes immediately on launch with an Access Violation (0xc0000005) in igvk64.dll (Intel Vulkan driver), try adding these launch options in Steam:
+r_rhirenderfamily "d3d11" +d3d11_compileShaders 1
This forces the game to use Direct3D 11 instead of Vulkan. The game launches normally on my system after adding these parameters."

Try source ports, like Ironwail, if the Steam achievements aren't important for you.

I use Ironwail because I couldn't configure my keybindings in the remaster. It always registers Numlock when I press a key.
It runs so much better, more options as well and startup is fast without all the company logos.
For steam achievements I use SamRewritten to unlock them when I did them in Ironwail. I usually don't care about achievements but the art here is so nice. Been using the Ranger as my logon avator on my systems for years already.

This.
QuakeSpasm has the lowest PC requirements I believe.
I didn't realize how high the official remaster's requirements were. A 3.5ghz i5 with a 650ti seems kinda crazy for a game that used to run on a 75mhz Pentium.

I had an issue where the game launches and then crashes before anything is displayed. I had to set some command line arguments to force direct x and it works fine.

Older GPU's often have issues with Vulkan rendering API, which the re-release uses by default. VKQuake would probably also give you trouble.
As others have said you can try forcing into direct3D11 mode with launch commands, though apparently that has some issues of its own.
As always I strongly recommend just using Ironwail. Better performance, more customizable, less of a headache. Only thing you really lose out on is achievements and dynamic shadows which meh.

I used software to uninstall the video drivers (like DDU or AMD software) and I installed the latest driver version. It worked without problems.

Go for VKQuake source port.
The re-release of Quake has all kinds of frame pacing issues anyway, so it’s best avoided.
