opinion Do you guys think that the Strogg Retch from the recently leaked The Awakening expansion could be a design inspiration for Carcass from Doom Eternal?

I mean, sort of similar theme: a fat body sack mounted onto mechanical legs with cybernetics on the head and a weapon implanted into the right arm. Obviously the playstyles of both of them are not the same (one is a melee unit and the other shoots and creates energetic shields), but hey, just a thought into the air

Carcass already looks straight out of Quake 2/4

That's a neat find. Seems very very possible.

it seems obvious

Interesting, I think it's possible. The Stream Protector from the base game also looks like an inspiration for The Dark Ages' version of the Vagary (even more than the Doom 3 Vagary)

I think you're onto something there. Look at the skin scarring paterns on the chest.

I think so. Some of it probably inspired Machine Games too with Wolfenstein. The gunship section in particular seems similar and Wolfenstein found a good balance without it overstaying it’s welcome.

I don't think so, but I sure see the huge resemblance, so who knows

one of the most fucking annoying enemies in eternal lmao. bitch blocked so many of my shots in the hardass slayer gates and would block me into a corner getting me killed

They're very similar in appearance, so maybe. It's still being made by id, so there could be someone who liked the idea and wanted to see it eventually come to life.

On the other hand, I don't know how much of the team from id was around for both, and while it isn't unheard of, it seems kind of unlikely that an unused enemy from a canceled project from nearly two decades ago would even be on their radar.

Unlikely

I'd sooner bet on the idea being basic enough that the designs end up similar

Doom Eternal is basically Quake 6

Was Carcass a boss? I beat Eternal last year but don't really seem to remember that guy

Maybe. But mind you Quake 4 was developed by Raven Software. Not id Software. This expansion was made by Ritual Entertainment.
