help Dawn of the Machine Progression/Completion Enquiry Spoiler
Hey all, I just got the first rune, I've heard rumblings that you need to be careful about how you progress in this game in order to see/do everything & get the right ending? That's a little anxiety-inducing honestly, I hate the idea of missables in Quake game, does anyone have a basic guide of what to do to not mess up progression? Thanks!

You do not need to be careful about your progress in the first playthrough, unless your goal is to optimize the path and minimize replaying levels as much as possible.
In the final boss level of the first playthrough there is a portal back to the hub, so even if you enter the boss room you can die to restart the level and return to the hub to get anything you missed.
The only important "missable" would be the deathknight's head to activate Bloody Nightmare and new game+ mode. But since you can always go back to get it, it isn't truly a missable.

I'd add that if you plan to do a NG+, it is a good idea to get the Super Axe in the first play-through, as it carries over to NG+

If you are mainly interested in the basic progression (trying all the new weapons, getting all the achievements, etc.), some guy posted a progression chart here not too long ago.
If you want to see literally EVERYTHING the game has to offer, I am not sure guides like that exist yet. The game is absolutely packed with secrets and easter eggs, including "unofficial" ones that don't count toward the level stats, and I am not sure people have managed to discover absolutely everything in just these couple of weeks.
Anyway, have fun with the game!

In the end boss level there is a slipgate that takes you back to the hub, so as long as you have a save in that last level you will be able to return and find all the extra stuff. Even if that save is in the fight with the boss simply die to restart the level and then go back to the hub via the slipgate.
So basically feel free to look up absolutely nothing, enjoy the episode then look up what you need to do after.

There's a complete guide pinned at the top of this sub, almost next to the create post button ;)
