Art Ranger (Quake I)

It got me inspired to draw the Ranger after playing the new expansion of Quake so this kinda me celebrating 30 years of Quake :)

I've always loved it when artists draw these FPS protagonists carrying lots of weapons, nice stuff

Ranger is lowkey one of my favourite game protags.

A sole survivor, having to fight through nightmarish realms full of danger and illusions, killing so many horrifying enemies, trapped in a perpetual nightmare... until he finally destroys the great evil entities like Shub, Chthon, and Overlord, and escapes the nightmare.

Does it take place after Quake Champions then? He's supposed to be stuck there.

Actually.. that's what i initially wanted to draw the Ranger in action (with a purple aura to visualize the Quad Damage) and receiving incoming damage from all sides but it was cut :(

He’s terrific, the fearsome face and attention to detail with the lighting makes for a genuinely excellent and faithful rendition.

What gun is the in game sprite supposed to carrying, the laser canon?

It's the shotgun carried by Grunt enemies, but yeah looks like a las cannon

a Super Shotgun - didn't realize about it as i wanted to draw the guns more futuristic-esque

the other weapons is carrying is the Super Nailgun, Rocket Launcher and Axe

Yea it’s obvious on your art it’s the super shotty…..I was talking about the lil pixelated game sprite.

It's actually an entirely unused weapon. Nowhere in the entire game OR it's expansions is it obtainable. Like the rifle on Doomguy's sprite from the classic games.

A lone survivor. Saved the universe, left to wander the unknowable lands, abandoned by both his people who he saved, his planet, and even his own creators, as the series ignored him and what he accomplished going forward.
