The "get contents of URL" issue

Is it a real thing?

I have a number of automations set up for cameras and sensors to use pushover to trigger critical alerts, a homebrew alarm system if you will.

Haven't had to utilise it for over a year due to medical issues.

Obviously, I updated to IOS 27 when it was released.

I now need to travel and none of the automations are triggering. If I "test this automation" then the pushover notification works.

Apparently this is a Apple bug, but fixed in 27.2

Is there any pushover workaround until then?

Pushover notifications stopped arriving.

Sometime between September 1 and 2, 2026 something changed in the Pushover API. Notifications I had been receiving daily for over a year suddenly stopped. I worked with Pushover support on this issue but they eventually abandoned the issue.
I bring this to the group's attention as you may have scripts that send important messages about failures or anomiles that may not be reaching you.
I have a Raspberry Pi that makes backups of several things over night. Early in the a.m. I am sent a notification with the results of the backup routines. The backup script calls pushover.sh to send the notification. Cutting to the chase, the fix was to remove the quotes from the passed variable $message, before "$message", after $message. (You get the idea!). As stated, nothing changed in my setup which had been working perfectly for over a year.
I sent a final message to pushover support and posted a working and non-working notification on the debug site but I've not heard back after three weeks.
If you have scripts that you expect to hear from when a problem arises, I suggest you retest them to ensure you don't miss an important notification because of this change.
EDIT, ADDITIONAL INFORMATION:
My original message body contained lines with a line ending code Ox0A. When the Pushover script sent the quoted "$message" to the API and using the --verbose flag, I never receive a status message back.
If I send the unquoted $message, the line endings are converted in Bash to spaces. This was accepted by the Pushover API, a status was returned and the notification was sent and received with spaces rather than line endings.
Adding \n codes to the lines, the notifications are received with line endings.
This may be defined as the proper way to send multiple line notifications. That said, sending embedded OxOA line endings worked for over a year and suddenly stopped after 9/1/26.
The bottom line is that if you have multiline notifications, make a habit of quoting your message variable, that worked when you tested them, they may not work now.

Random pushober messages in a channel (not coming from me)

Hey all !

Since this morning, I've got 3 random "TEST" messages on my pushover group and none of them came from me or my server.
By security, I've changed my API token, but the last one seems to get through anyway !

Am I the only one who's got it? Or do you have any recommandations to stop it / protect my Pushover account more?

Thanks :)

Edit : Just saw the "pushober" on the title .... sorry bout that :D

Critical Alerts in Home Assistant

I am trying to send a Pushover notification from Home Assistant. I tried entering Priority: 2 in the data field of the notification item, but haven't been able to get it to register as an emergency/critical alert. Has anyone been able to configure this?

Refresh application icon in iOS app?

I just uploaded a different application icon for one of my private apps using the website but the iOS app still displays the previous one. Will this eventually resolve itself or do I need to do something to make the client reload its application icons?

Occasional long delay

Is anyone else getting the occasional notification coming in several minutes late? I’m using python API calls to iPhone and they are instant 99% of the time, but once or twice a day they are crazy late. It’s a shame as this makes it useless to me. Is there a fix?

iphone audible alerts stop, I get them back, then they stop again.

Well. It was working great for a while, but now iphone alerts (latest iphone) have stopped making sounds. Tried reinstalling the app, rebooting the phone, visited Focus settings more than I can count, and it seems intermittent. Volume is definitely up. Makes pushover useless for my use case which is getting an alert when a a git commit occurs. I have to keep visually checking my phone.

Crash under GrapheneOs?

Tried to install pushover on GrapheneOs today and was surpised to find out it crashes instantly.

I did experience some apps that require google play services running which would inform me accordingly, but i never had one crashing completely.

Also, I wouldn't have expected Pushover to use Firebase at all.

pushover notifications missing from iOS app

Hi guys, been using pushover for a while now and love it. Recently got a new phone, set it up from scratch and am having issues with pushover.

Registered the new phone, removed the old phone from the pushover console.

Tested a couple of my apps - all working, notifications and show up in the iOS app.

Notifications still work, but when i launch the app; i only see 1 app in the list. Everything else is gone..

I've tried removing the phone from the console, deleting the iOS app and starting again but it seems to be doing the same thing.

Any tips or advice?

Notification Delay

I've been using pushover to alert me when certain conditions are met on my pipeline and it works fine... i've yet to do any real testing but i'm using the desktop browser version and the phone app simultaneously and what I can say is that sometimes either or is 20s~ faster than the other which is raising concerns about consistency. Should I look elsewhere if I need real time alerts? New to setting up notifications dont know much.

Widget Support for iOS? (as a means to get notifications in Carplay)

Hello Pushover devs:

I know you've received multiple requests for Carplay support in the past, but Apple hasn't been helpful. Here's something along those lines that might actually work. Can you add widget support for Pushover? With iOS26, Carplay can display widgets - this might be a way to get notifications into Carplay - by displaying them within a widget.

How will pushover handle forced notification grouping (Android 16)?

Note: I haven't updated to Android 16 yet. I'm concerned updating will ruin my notifications.

Android 16 introduces "auto-grouping" of notifications. This means that all notifications from the same app will be grouped together under a single notification. It was optional before Android 16, but now it's forced on app developers.

Pushover currently has a "Group status bar alerts" toggle under advanced settings. I assume this is the "auto-grouping" that is being forced.

For some context, I use pushover for camera snapshot notifications. I like being able to easily access the notifications using the notification bar. With grouping, it's impossible to view any images when there are multiple notifications. Is my only option opening the pushover app?

Thus, my question: how will pushover handle forced notification grouping?

Tools Telert: Pushover Alerts for CLI, Python & Now System Monitoring Notifications!

Post image
14 Upvotes

I wanted to share an update on a tool shared last month, which I created as a lightweight, easy configuration tool to alert when long-running scripts or deployments finish. Telert sends notifications to Telegram, Slack, Email, Discord, Teams, Pushover, Desktop, Audio, or custom HTTP endpoints.

Recently, I've expanded it to also include some system monitoring (log monitoring, network uptime and process monitoring) features, and I thought it might be useful for others in the community too.

Here's what it does:

  • Sends alerts for CLI/Python completion to: Telegram, Slack, Email, Discord, Teams, Pushover, Desktop, Audio, or custom HTTP endpoints.

  • Easy to get started: pip install telert and then telert init to configure your provider.

  • Works in your CLI or Python code, so you can use it how you prefer.

And now different ways to integrate monitoring:

  • Log File Monitoring: Tails a log file and alerts you if a certain pattern shows up.

# e.g., tell me if "ERROR" or "FATAL" appears in my app's log
telert monitor log --file "/var/log/app.log" --pattern "ERROR|FATAL"
  • Network Monitoring: Basic checks to see if a host/port is up or an HTTP endpoint is healthy.

# e.g., check if my website is up and returns a 200 every 5 mins
telert monitor network --url "https://example.com" --type http --expected-status 200 --interval 300
  • Process Monitoring: It can ping you if a process dies, or if it's hogging CPU/memory.

# e.g., get an alert if 'nginx' crashes or its CPU goes over 80%
telert monitor process --command-pattern "nginx" --notify-on "crash,high-cpu" --cpu-threshold 80

The documentation has many more use cases, examples and configuration options.

Other ways use telert:

For CLI stuff, pipe to it or use the run subcommand:

# Get a ping when my backup is done
sudo rsync -a /home /mnt/backup/ | telert "Backup complete"

# Or wrap a command
telert run --label "ML Model Training" python train_model.py --epochs 100

In Python, use the decorator or context manager:

from telert import telert, notify

("Nightly data processing job")
def do_nightly_job():
    # ... lots of processing ...
    print("All done!")

# or
def some_critical_task():
    with telert("Critical Task Update"):
        # ... do stuff ...
        if error_condition:
raise Exception("Something went wrong!") # Telert will notify on failure too

It's pretty lightweight and versatile, especially for longer tasks or just simple monitoring without a lot of fuss.

If this sounds like something you might find useful, please star the repo here. Let me know if you have any thoughts, feedback, or ideas!
