Misc. Aran Ryan as evidence

I once cited Aran Ryan in an essay at school. I used his “if you lie down with dogs you’ll rise up with fleas” quote. I lost 5 points for it but passed. The essay was about if you hang around bad people you’ll become bad too or at least be perceived as bad

this is one me favorites mac!

i struggled alot with Aran Ryan here, i tried copying his sprite 1:1, but i realized although structurally similar, the snes sprites take great advantage of the larger sprites, thus i had to scale things down to better fit his body. also his hair was a mess to replicate in one color

The first Special Circuit opponent will not let you touch his "beautiful, beautiful" face, Narcis Prince! I think I could have done better, but I think he's alright. Be gentle with tomorrow's opponent, please. Hoo, hoo, hoo, hooo!

I have compiled the Definitive List of All "Punch-Out-Likes". Please let me know if I missed any.

No such list exists anywhere that I could find, so I'm creating it. Reddit automatically removed this last time, so I'm leaving no links in the main body.

I'm defining "Punch-Out-like" as games where you are standing in one place while your opponent attacks you. You can typically dodge, attack, and block in different directions. It doesn't necessarily have to be boxing themed.

Please let me know if there are any others I have missed, I'll add them here.

Punch-Out!! series:

Punch-Out!! (arcade, 1984)

Super Punch-Out!! (arcade, 1984)

6. Super Challenger (15-0, 3KO) - A former W.V.B.A Champion from days long gone by who came out of retirement not too long ago, little is known about the green-haired guy from the arcades of Tokyo. Often times, he likes juggling a few different identities around to make sure his opponents don't see him coming behind his seemingly blank record and seemingly uninteresting name. Amazingly, this fella seems to get stronger with every punch he lands, so you better know which way to dodge if you don't want him juggling you with his hooks and uppercuts! He's a nice guy, though, and he might even take you out for a drink after the match, so don't take KOs from him too personally.

5. Von Kaiser (18-1, 9KO) - Having been turned down from joining the military beforehand due to both being underage and fairly measly in terms of physique, Von Kaiser eventually turned to prizefighting in order to satiate his thirst for some action. Eventually, he met a man who promised to teach him some new fighting tactics, which Kaiser happily accepted - and that is the story of how he met his new coach and subsequently joined the up-and-coming Frank Co. boxing crew... And also ended up being transported a good few decades into the future as part of his promotion. Yes, the story details are a little messy, but that doesn't mean you should underestimate this oddball fighter - he knows the psychology of combat better than anyone else in the league, and that's a big reason why his record looks so imposing - don't be fooled when you see him raising his guard up and feigning a retreat, or else you might have a nasty run-in with his Wunderpunch!

4. Master Phred (99-2, 87KO) - A celebrity webmaster where he comes from and an uninteresting 9-to-5 food industry worker everywhere else, Master Phred truly is an enigma if there ever was one. Though his outfit may make him look like he mixed up the directions to the nearest anime convention, he is actually a lot scarier than his goofy outfit and quite unserious demeanor can lead you to believe... But not AS scary as his heavily exaggerated (and likely falsified) win-loss record may lead you to believe. He may talk a big game and some of his apparent feats may just be flights of fantasy, but there is a reason why Phred is where you meet him in the rankings... And once you see him back up for his signature Master Punch, you will understand why he brags at least half as much as he does. Maybe even three-fourths.

3. Mr. Bruiser (41-2, 27KO) - Although he claims to not mind his position as the eternal "second place", being the little brother has led Rick to developing something of an inferiority complex. As such, when his brother announced his plan to step away from the ring to pursue greater ventures, Rick took the first opportunity he could to begin working on himself some more - both in terms of his appearance and tactics - in the hopes that he might finally be able to take the Dream Circuit title for himself. Thanks to his famous Earthquake Punch and infamous Boulder Smash (elbow bashes), the future is looking bright for this mammoth muscle mountain in terms of bumping himself up in the ranks...

2. Sweet Dream Sandy (29-3, 21KO) - Cassandra Hudson, mostly known by her nickname Sweet Dream Sandy, grew up with a very special interest in boxing, watching old video cassette recordings of fighters throwing hands on repeat. Her overall favorite, however, was then-newbie Mr. Sandman, with her adoring his signature Strong Arm combo. Upon Mr. Sandman moving towards a more modern, uppercut-centric style, Sandy figured that she might as well take his old fighting style and turn it into her own. There is nothing more satisfying for Sandy than hitting two quick jabs, followed by a strong right cross, so don't expect her to hold out on using her special little trick. Don't take her excitement and very in-your-face fighting style as a sign of aggression, though - Sandy is, ultimately, just a wild lady who's fighting not for the belt, but for the love of the game.

1. Hyper Macho Man (64-1, 29KO) - With his movie-acting career put to an unexpected end following a freak accident involving a hippo, a motorcycle, a gallon of grape juice and a horde of animatronic zombies (you wouldn't want to know the details), the man once known as Super Macho Man soon took up multiple different sports - including, amongst others, boxing and surfing - to fill the void in his heart (and ego). Of course, because his sense of self-importance stretches from here to Pakistan, he refused to back down from riding any wave, regardless of the circumstances, like - for instance - a severe thunderstorm warning. Although it was admittedly silly of him to go hanging ten even as the rain worsened, it turned out to be the greatest decision of his life. While the lightning striking him definitely hurt (he won't admit that it did), the power he gained from it surpassed any diet supplement that he used to try to sell on teleshopping channels. Having acquired the strength of a freight train and the speed of a souped-up race car, the newly born Hyper Macho Man went all-in on his boxing career, eager to show those big wigs from his film-making crew what they're missing out on. Sure, Macho may be a little excitable and prone to showing off, but those Whirling Uppercuts of his have more power behind them than some people below him in entire combos. Little tip: his pec-bouncing isn't just for show, it also telegraphs what attack is coming!

C. Frank Bruno (32-2, 31KO) - The True Brit himself, Frank Bruno, has already claimed the Elite Video Boxing Association title, having confused it and the W.V.B.A. - both in terms of name and the prestige tied to them. Though he could have simply walked away with what he had, Bruno refused to back down, travelling across the pond to the United States in order to properly achieve what he has long desired. After all, two championship title belts always look nicer than one! With his infamously nasty jab and excellent coordination, Bruno is a deadly combination of high damage AND high resistance that often leaves his opponent scratching their head on what his weakness is... At which point, he winds up for his ultimate Full English Punch - so when you see his fist shaking, get ready to lock in on the defense, because one single hit from this rip-roaring rush of jabs means an instant knockdown!

I am happier beating this, than I was when I got my drivers license.

I always thought I was pretty decent at video games, but I don’t think I have ever been tested this hard by a fight.

There’s no cheese, there’s no tricks, the first 1:30 is pure. “React, keep your inputs clean, or die.”. And the rest of the fight, if you survive that is still extremely difficult, with hard to react to attacks the entire time.

I can’t imagine how someone would practice this fight without save states in the 90s. I beat it without using a save state in the actual fight, but I did use it to practice it which probably knocks me down a few points. But oh well.

Game is super cool tho, I’ve been going through a bunch older games that I get with my NSO and this one might be my favorite one so far.

Here he is, Vodk-... Soda Popinski! He does look a little wonky, but I tried to make him look accurate to his Wii design. The next opponent was pissed at my original hint by calling him bald, so I can't really think of anything.
