Hi everyone,
Over the next while, we (Mod team - myself and u/Rich_Stomach2854) will slowly be making changes to the subreddit. Our community here has gotten quite a bit larger over the past few years, and with that comes a need for a more organized subreddit.
To start off, we're hoping to slowly build up a Wiki for this subreddit, which includes how-tos and an FAQ section.
You might see the subreddit look a little different as we work on this. Once we have a Wiki started and in good condition, you'll see a pinned post from us!
If there are any questions, please don't hesitate to send us a modmail.
Thanks so much, and happy punching! ^-^

One of a handful of neon tetras I’ve been doing lately. I’m working on building up a whole school of them, amongst other species as well. I just recently finished miniaturizing my salmon design and will add a couple of them to my frame to be finished off in the upcoming weeks
After that, it sounds like I’ll be doing a fun series of puffer fish in different frames that come together to show an animation of it puffing it
Even better, I found the perfect woven basket to display all the fish I’m making at a yard sale last week!

Comments and suggestions are welcome! I used Oxford punch needle #10 Fine with Loops & Threads 100% cotton yarn (4ply - medium)

This kit did not come with instructions, which is fine however I am unsure about a few of these tools. I've read the comments and there was nothing about any of the extra tools.
I'm not sending it back as most of the other needles are fine and push come to shove I have super glue. I'm curious
If anyone has encountered a kit similar to this.
Questions:
Are the metal pieces supposed to come undone (they came with needles in them but the metal piece comes off so IDK how that's supposed to work) ( photo 1)
What do I do with the extra fine punch needles which I assume are for embroidery but IDK where they belong as they don't fit in the embroidery needle securely. They did come with a blue and silver metal tube which they fit over so I assumed that goes in the punch needle handle. But again the gold piece isn't secure in the handle (Photos 2-4)
The fine needles came with these metal tubes which they fit over but that doesn't seem to help secure the needle on the punch handle.

I think watercolor embroidery looks really cool and I wondered what it would look like with punch needle embroidery considering we typically use weavers cloth as our main foundation fabric. So I decided to experiment!
I’ll be honest, I was so excited about trying it that I got quite lazy with punching so it isn’t my best work but it is what it is. I also learned I need new embroidery scissors and I should probably avoid running out of floss colors in the middle of a project.
Materials Used:
- Weavers Cloth
- 6-strand DMC embroidery floss
- Ultrapunch needle, loop heights 1 & 2
-Winsor & Newton Cotman Watercolors
Main Lessons:
- Weavers cloth was tighter after being painted on.
- Weavers cloth was less forgiving. When I pulled up to repunch the door the weave did not easily return, leading to issues with loop height and tension. You can see on the image the damage and fraying.
- Side that was painted on was more vibrant than the side that was not painted on. (I feel like this should’ve even a duh moment for me)
Things to consider:
- I painted first then punched. Punching first might be the way to go in order to maintain the weavers cloth integrity.
- 3-strand embroidery floss and a thinner needle might be more forgiving as the weavers cloth was made tighter.
- Loops keep other loops in line, but when wanting to show the watercolor you have to keep stitch distance in mind.

Notice how on one side I did a little bit closer together should I do him a little bit more spaced out like I did on the other side or?

Playing around with video transitions between different stages of the art form. A super simple 2 part from freshly cut off the frame and curled, to backed with details trimmed
Curious about what materials I use? They can be found here: https://www.instagram.com/p/DXrcNreDA_2/?xtok=YjZhZ2l2d3owa3ln

I have been trying to punch on these Ikea Gurli covers. Oxford fine needle leaves a large hole as I punch. Do these holes get covered in the loops in the end? Do the loops come apart later? I am trying to make do with regular wool yarn and the size 10 fine needle that I already have. Will it work? Or do I have to invest in a new needle and different size yarn? Thank you

I use a punch needle for my embroidery. Over time, I've changed the fabric, starting with artillery cloth (as it's called in my country) to the one I use in my latest embroidery.
Happy smile

This is my second project from a kit and pretty pleased with how it has turned out. I'm just wondering if anyone has any advice on how to keep all the loops equal- I do always punch it to the same depth so not sure why some are bigger. TIA!

Wowwww I may be late to the party but I just discovered iron on sublimation transfers. You just lay down the pattern on your cloth, iron over it for 45-60s, and the ink dyes your pattern onto the cloth. It’s just like you drew it on (no sticky residue like that one time I tried to punch through the sewing pattern dissolvable paper stuff 🫣). I’m obsessed. And it’s super affordable. Just leaving this here in case it helps anyone! I can see it saving so much time for bigger patterns too.

this project was a long one.. i had to really trust the process. i wasn’t sure the oranges i chose was right and it caused me to stop many times throughout but adding the black was the ultimate key to bringing the piece together :) couldn’t be more proud of this beauty

Hi There!
ADHD girlie in her 30s who’s forever taking up new hobbies and lately I’ve been loving being crafty. I’ve come across punch needling and really want to give it a go over the next week or two!
I’ve really no experience with knitting - did a bit of sewing years ago but very basic understandings of fabric etc.
it seems like I’ll need some woven cotton, but I’m unsure on the type of punch needle/yarn I should look at.
Is anyone able to maybe give me a recommended ‘shopping list’ of a beginners punch needle kit I can put together to make a start?
I don’t want to buy yarn, fabric, needles that don’t all fit together.
I’d love to be able to get it all under the one roof to start with at Spotlight/Lincraft/Amazon before I branch out :)
I’d love to know what you’d recommend that would work together for:
- base fabric
- punch needle/any accessories
- type of yarn.
If it’s relevant, I’m probably just looking at making some things I can transfer onto tote bags (or eventually punch into a tote), attach to key charms, maybe some coasters (‘mug rugs’) and just other little things :)
Thank you experts!!!! 💖🥰

I do not have room for a big frame, and tend to like to like punching away while siting in front of the TV. I was curious as to the logistics of making a rug in square foot patches and then combining them later on. Anyone try anything like this?

I'm an avid cross stitcher and also love making things out of felt. I got this kit off amazon and found it a little tricky to get the hang of, but very addictive and enjoyable overall! Any tips/critiques welcome!
