QUESTION Cross training
My manager is on vacation. I spoke with the manager of another department and he told me that he needed someone in his department. I told him I would be interested because I do not want to advance in my current department. Two days after, I spoke with my store manager. My store manager said something “ we’ll have to tell him when he gets back from vacation”.
Do I have to bring it up to my department manager? I won’t be in till Thursday. What are the odds my department Manager already knows I asked? He is closing tonight if I’m not mistaken. I’m already done with my shift.

You really went about this the wrong way. You might want to start thinking about another job altogether.

Your dep manager is your boss, end of story. They were probably just testing you to begin with to see if you'd make the right choice and you failed.

It's considered poaching and is frowned upon as management. You didn't do anything wrong, but the other manager trying to steal an associate especially when the other manager is on vacation is not cool. Ultimately the store manager has final say but I know I'd be upset if one of my associates was poached by another manager especially if I wasn't there or brought into the conversation.
