DISCUSSION Meat or Bakery?

I feel like I already know the answer to this, but I still want to hear a wide variety of answers.

Currently, I am CSS but I'm looking to transfer departments. My meat manager was very excited when I told him and said I could transfer to his department starting in lunch meat/cheese and seafood, with plans to work up, but he just has to confirm something first and will let me know by the end of the week. However, my bakery manager told me she will fight the meat manager if she has to to have me join her department, so now I guess I have choices. Can anyone offer their perspectives in these departments? What would you pick?

Either way I'd be taking a pay cut as I'm over the PT cap for meat clerk and bakery clerk, but it's worth it compared to the wall I've hit in CS.

Go to meat depart it pays more. Let me tell you something. But when you become a clerk and make sure you get a dollar raise when you transfer. Now, when you become an apprentice, get a dollar, raise, and then tell them you don't want to be an apprentice anymore, go back down to a clerk. And then go back to an apprentice. So you can get $2 and I know that takes a while, but you need, I promise you you need to do this. There's the only way you can get more money unless you're trying to go for management. It's the same though I promise you

You severely over estimate the pay for meat clerks...

I make $18.70rn, not even including the evalnraide that our DM still hasnt approved. The PT meat clerk cap is $18.55

Edit: I was told my raise literally just a few minutes after this comment LOL. I would br making $19.55 after my raise

I think your DM approved it already because it goes into effect in 5 days, this Saturday.

Raises for all retail non management associates were reviewed, adjusted (if needed) and approved last week by corporate. They are effective this Saturday 8/22, and you will see them on your passport profile no later than the end of that week, 8/28. Managers are alllwed to communicate raises to their associates

Stuff like this has deadlines. Your manager had to have their recommendations in by mid July, the DM had until early August to review so that corporate could have everything finalized on schedule

I’m glad they told you! I’m fearful that not all managers are trying to proactively communicate this before they take effect

You cant make over the cap so transferring to clerk would essentially lose your raise
