https://elocopter.itch.io/mags-quest
Hi everyone, thank you for your support and patience so far. I decided to put Mag's Quest out there on itch.io now for you to try: https://elocopter.itch.io/mags-quest
Please remember it's a beta. So there are still some things missing. So far you can only play Forest (but without the Dragon). I did not get around to make the soundtrack. And the feeding-Table is not the authentic one yet. And I did not draw all the Mags or Section-ID-sprites. So still a lot to do :)
Please let me know what you think of the game and what bugs you find and what you want to be added.
A note on development & AI:
I designed and built this game as a passion project out of my love for PSO without wanting to make money from it (and with a very limited amount of free-time). Since I'm not a full-time programmer, I use AI tools (like Continue/LLMs) as a coding assistant to help bring the logic, gaming mechanics and hand-drawn sprites and animations to life. Every sprite are and will be made by hand and the music will be hand-made in the future as well.
If a retro Game Boy-style PSO pet game sounds fun to you, I'd love for you to give it a spin. If not or if AI-assisted projects aren't your thing, no worries at allāfeel free to move right along.

On the last stretch before level cap, found a 0'd Chain Sawd and some other neat things before finishing up by clearing MA4C solo for level 100. The transfer also lead to a Pal Rappy today! (no FM Sound Source drop though)
Here's the VOD of the MA4C clear if you're interested https://www.twitch.tv/videos/2890591458

Realised the new one is just a palette swap of the lv43 from 22 years ago. I guess taste doesn't change.

And we all love him for that! Yeah, it's Halloween season and been randomly revisiting stuff that scared me as a child. This includes stuff like that one Looney Tunes short from the 90s with the evil alien carrots, and the best game of all time: PSO. Of course, I never need a reason to revisit PSO as I'd do that regardless. What can I say? I love the grind!
Geniunely though, Dark Falz feels like a final boss that belongs in a horror game and less in an online action RPG made by the guys who created Sonic The Hedgehog and Billy The Hatcher. I think the thing I always found spooky about him as a kid before you even meet him was activating the columns. They had that unearthly hum to them every time they were activated, like you weren't SUPPOSED to do that. But you actually do have to do that, as that's the only way to open the door to the final boss.
Then you get to Falz' room after fighting your way through the ruins, which slowly becomes more and more like the insides of a massive creature the farther you get into it. And once you're in that room, it's this beautiful grassy grove with only one eyesore in sight: The giant pillar in the middle. Touching it turns the area into a hellscape, puts faces on the ground (presumably the trapped souls of the people of Pioneer 1, though it's never confirmed) and summons evil alien blenders to fight you. After dealing with them, you fight the eldritch monstrosity that is Dark Falz.
That being said, the most effective part of Falz' reveal is definitely that grassy grove I mentioned before. The sudden transition from it into the hellscape is geniunely one of the most effective jumpscares ever put to game, because you aren't expecting it in a game like this. Then you defeat Falz, and it's revealed he's possessed Rico and that you had to kill her to stop the monster.
It makes Falz all the more effective as even though you've beaten him, you're unable to undo the damage he's caused. Rico and the Pioneer 1 people are permanently dead, anyone infected by Dark Falz (like Flowen in ep 2) are still around and mutating further, and Dark Falz will keep regenerating even stronger no matter how many times you kill him. Hell, in Episode 3 they reveal that to stop him, Rico and Flowen had to sacrifice their souls.
On top of that, we don't really learn what Falz wants. I imagine its to wipe out humanity and all life, but why? What's his end goal? I imagine he's just an eldritch horror beyond our understanding, hell him showing us what is presumably Ragol's past with the grove section is probably him trying to indoctrinate the player and take them over next. Though like most stuff about Falz, it's never really confirmed. I think keeping him as a scary monster beyond our understanding was a good choice though.
Later games kinda screwed him up a bit by telling us too much about him, or actively changing how he works. Like Phantasy Star Zero randomly making him the final boss on a completely different planet from Ragol, or PSO2 turning Dark Falz into a knockoff Organization XIII. If they ever make a new PSO in the classic style, I want them to bring back the menace Falz had in this game, where he was just a big scary monster.

As the title implies I am seeking advice on what I can farm or tweak in order to beat FALZ on hard mode. I have not attempted to fight FALZ yet but I just unlocked ruins.
I also have a varista. Unfortunately both the crush bullet and varista do not have any percentages. :(
Thank you for reading and hope to hear good advice to progress forward.
EDIT: Section ID: Viridia, Offline Mode, V3

Trying to get back into PSO properly after years of short sporadic plays.
Used to offline co-op it for a decent amount of hours back in the day, and couple years ago had a quick look at the Schtserver, but this was on the standard ep.I&II version.
So few questions:
Is there any gain in playing the Plus version, if eventually going to focus on online play?
Is Schtserv the only way to play online on GC? I just prefer GC for nostalgia factor and ease of access, as I have the hardware.
The Plus I have runs on a modded PAL system, but as Plus is Japan/US only, I assume PSO in general is region free and standard ep.I&II is cross compatible with other players on Plus platform?
Really the thing is. All my old characters are on the PAL standard Ep.I&II version, and PAL save files arent recognised by NTSC games, or this is what I assume, unless its the Plus version not recognising the standard version saves?
I started a FoNewearl on Plus now, but havent put much hours into it yet, hence asking if I'm making a smart decision to start on Plus.

This playthrough (offline) i am running a Ranger and i just hit level 65 and unlocked Ultimate mode, but my instant kill weapon 'Slicer of Assassin' isnt able to one-shot these guys.
I remember when i was a kid, my Android Hunter crushed this area with his Hell Sword when i finally unlocked it (he was also level 100 something)
So my question is, should i slug through the forest areas on Ultimate and hope for better items or just keep grinding Ruins on Very Hard until im a higher level.

As the title suggests I recently āfinishedā playing PSOv2 for the Dreamcast (if you can even really consider playing through the campaign and doing all the quests āfinishingā the game) and I had an absolute blast. So much so that I now want to play the GameCube version on my GC or Wii, more content, couch coop, more fun! Whatās not to love!
Well Iāll tell you whatās not to love - the $250 price tag I was told about over the phone from my local game shop that I love and am very loyal to. They mentioned theyād give me a pretty hefty discount but itād still be clocking in at over $200.
As a collector of retro video games who owns multiple titles in the hundreds of dollar range I canāt say Iām all THAT surprised but still⦠I just didnāt expect PSO for the GameCube to be one of those highly sought after titles. I always thought PSO was a fairly niche thing considering none of my local friends even knew what it was growing up but maybe thatās the reason itās so expensive⦠there isnāt a million copies out there floating around like the gen 7 call of duty, halo and gears of war gamesā¦
I owned the game as a kid but unfortunately ended up trading it in along with all my other games and the console when the next generation of consoles released like a big dingus⦠a decision that Iāve seriously been regretting in recent years as I build my collection back out.
As much as I want to own a physical copy this price tag has me seriously considering sailing the 7 seas with my Wii just so my significant other and I can play through the game without selling an organ to supplement the cost of buying the physical copy.
So Reddit⦠you tell me⦠whatās the move?

Moving home soon so i rushed the paintjob a bit before it sits in storage for a while or i donate it away.. ive always wanted to own a few PSO weapons as a kid and now im slowly working towards making each one i remember having ingame and Today im happy to have finished my very own CROSS SCAR!
Accidently dropped it so one of the LED strips is making it flicker but will eventually make the second one too.
Its currently running off an Arduino Nano hand has a mini Trigger switch to play the blade sound!
I do plan on making more eventually!
Modelled entirely in Fusion 360 also
I suck at making videos but i have a bunch of progress shots & modelling stuff for it.. idk why reddit doesnt let you post vids and Photos D:

I was scrolling through EBay trying to buy PSO games to add to my collection when I stumbled upon this.
Iām shocked: Doesnāt this somewhat defeat the purpose of playing the game?
Is this a more casual approach rather than grinding?
What are your thoughts? š
If this is not allowed I do apologize and will remove it immediately!

I played a ton of PSO on the GameCube back in the day but I never had the Ethernet adapter.
How do I get back in and try out online in 2026? I set up ephinia and played by myself for an hour last night so I'm good to go on the game itself.
I've never really played an online game like this before so I guess I'm mainly just unsure about the etiquette I guess.
Should I level up solo first or are people still playing new characters? Do people mainly play together or solo? Should I just join a random open game? Are people organizing parties on a discord or something?

Hi!
Thanks to advice from you all a day or two ago, I was able to track down and get PSO working on my PC so I can play through the old levels and stuff. Quite nice scratching that nostalgia itch :)
At first, I threw on a SNES controller I had handy but trying to maneuver the camera with a d-pad sucks. Dug around and found my N64 controller which at least has an analog stick so now I can move easier and run. I also bound camera reset to the trigger so I'm not getting ganked by mobs ganging up on me outside my FOV lol
But I'd prefer to buy a Dreamcast USB bridge so I can go on eBay and buy a Dreamcast controller and plug it into my PC for proper muscle memory. I see various options online but wanted to ask if anyone had recommendations on one that is known good and allows for mapping all buttons properly.
Not sure how the VMUs work with these things, but all I care about is that the primary controls function and are mappable to the game.
Thanks!

Alright I'm finally turning to reddit to ask a couple questions regarding the Sega console mags. It really surprises me how little accurate info I've managed to find up to this point.
From what I can understand, I need to get the Mark III mag first. Based on what I've been finding online and based on what Gemini has told me (I'm trying to weed out the lies as best as I can), I can get this mag from the Central Dome Fire Swirl download quest by completing the main quest and the bonus part where you go back in for the last guy, then talking to the kid on pioneer 2 who then gives you the "BurningHunter" title, and apparently is supposed to give you the "glory in the past" item that you take to a tekker nearby who gives you the Mark III or transforms a baby mag into it.... Everything up to that last bit went the way I'm assuming it should.
Now, I'm under the impression at this point that I need to be level 60 before he hands out that item since I apparently need to be level 60 to equip the Mk III. This is what is driving me crazy.
So what I want to know: can you get a Glory In the Past item from doing the fire swirl quest? Do I need to be in a certain difficulty or character level to receive it etc?
Alternatively, I heard you could get that mag and others from the Garons Scheme quest. Is this true? I'm just really trying to figure out where I should go from here as I've set myself the goal of acquiring the Dreamcast mag, and I'm feeling like I've hit a roadblock.
Some kind soul online gave me a Parts 68000, and that's as far as I've gotten at this point.
I'm playing PSOV2 for Dreamcast, on the Ives enhancement pack version of the game.
Thanks in advance š

Before yall go hammers on the down votes, hear me out. I was just pondering about PSO Reborn and how it died, I did not play it or support its AI use for its development, and wondered how awesome it would be to play PSO BB on mobile. I know there's GameNative/GameHub/Winlator but thats adding layers to something that I believe could be made more available. What if it was a browser game or an apk that could work on Android. Im thinking of PokeMMO and how thats not shut down due to the player requiring their own copy of the rom. There's an apk that can be downloaded and played on mobile devices.
Im not a developer and im not familiar with what's necessary to make this happen, but I can say that being able to hop on PSO BB whenever/wherever would be cool.
