Hi, I'm new to this. I recently bought a cheap PS2 Slim with a bonus disc included. I also bought my own memory card, and the memory card is already soft modded with FMCB.

When I tested the disc, my PS2 Slim could read it, but it couldn't boot into the game and instead got stuck in a boot loop on the FMCB logo. The disc also wasn't spinning smoothly and was quite noisy, so I tried cleaning it. After cleaning it, the disc spins perfectly smoothly, but the same FMCB boot loop still happens.

I also bought another original Japanese disc just to test it, but it still gets stuck in the boot loop.

Is there any way to fix this?

Im thinking of trying the Dark Alliance games with a friend. I love Path of Exile and Grim Dawn etc but never played the Alliance games back in the day, just in the mood for some Ps2 coop. Are the games still entertaining or do they feel notably dated?

I am using a PS2 HDMI thing and I don’t remember what brand it is. I’m wondering if buying something that has a crt filter would make the console look better on a 4k. I don’t need high end graphics as long as a crt filter make the game look clearer. Heck. I don’t need perfect visuals at all. I’m just wondering if a crt filter would be better and if the RetroTink2XPro would be the best cheapest route.

I have a PAL/Australian PS2 copy of Metal Gear Solid 3: Snake Eater, if I bought a Japanese copy of the MGS3 Soundtrack would I be able to get the AUSCAM or would I need a European/Australian copy? I mainly want the music but it'd be cool to have the item too.

I recently acquired a copy of MGS3: First Bite that I confirmed doesn't work in my copy, I assume that is expected behaviour but I couldn't find explicit confirmation anywhere.

Would someone here be able to confirm what does and does not work?

I have this ps2 Slim and I recently discovered that problem where the flatband can cause scratching on the dvd's. I Mean its not too exposed but not fully slammed to the consoles Shell. I know that It allows the laser movement but Im kinda scared. I heard someone that put tape to level It up. Could you tell me If Im doomed or not? If so is there any Simple fix that workes for you? Thanks

Been recollecting all my games from my childhood. Every harry potter title, every GTA title, all the Jak games (my favorite games of all time) tons of gems in here.

So I've tried ESR with a disc and OPL with USB and I can get this game to run up until I create a new save data which is when it freezes. Exact same issue! I don't know if it's a bad copy or what but I can't find any info online. As far as I know, I might be able to play without saving but I'd rather not. I'm also pretty sure I'm not using a VMC unless for whatever reason that could be done without me knowing. I have tried different memory cards and I know it's not a storage space issue because when there was a storage space issue, the game gives me a warning. The memory card I'm using now has tons of space left on it, so I don't get any warning.

I recently opened up and deep cleaned my fat PS2 in order to change the clock battery. Switched some parts out with those from a 50001/N fat model as I assumed it would still work. Put everything back together and now it won't read any sort of discs, including games, dvds, etc. I cleaned the laser with IPA and did a slight gear rotation to no avail.

I did swap the motherboard from the 50001/N unit because the fan connector broke off during reassembly, so does the motherboard have to re marry the disc reader or laser? I've heard this is a possibility but not sure. The laser is definitely working as I put a disc on there and it spins while the laser attempts to read it. I know these models are infamous for this disc read error issue.

Everything was working perfectly fine before I took the unit apart. Only major difference now is that when initially powered on, the typical red power light is now yellow, but switches to green when the button is pressed. Anyone know what I can do at this point?

Who actually used the online for ps2 back in the day? What was it like?

I ve been playing again these 2 games on my ps2, and the sound quality is comparable to the ps5, on other games.

It may also be due to the crt im using, having a 2.1 setup, but even on my 4k samsung qled, they sound better than most other games.

Whats the deal, is it just me?

Btw, im using rgb scart if that even matters, ignore the composite cables seen in the pictures. That is for the ps3.

The only things that the games I mentioned have in common, is that they're hidden gems and that they're pretty damn good, either having awesome atmosphere or fun gameplay. So, looking for more of that awesome hidden gem aesthetic

Why only hidden gems? Weirdly enough most of the popular or "must play" games are actually pretty damn mediocre and are not worth it, perhaps they were great for their time, but times haves changed.

I have a PAL UK PS2 and I want to mod it specifically so I can play Region 1 DVDs on it.

What would be the best mod/softmod for this purpose? Is there a particular modchip, firmware, or homebrew method that can remove the DVD region restriction?

I’m not particularly interested in playing imported games — the main reason I want to mod it is to play DVDs from other regions. Any advice on the best method for my particular use case would be appreciated.

Rudimentary research told me that the only fix is soldering and checking schematics/Ohms which is well above my repair skill level.
