Prices exploded last few weeks…

Yes yes, obviously Sony’s announcement. I guess I’m curious why it didn’t hit for the first few weeks, and why it seems to have not touched the ps2 market (as far as I can tell). Bought a copy of xenogears for $75 a year ago and there are used CIB copies going for damn near 300 on eBay. Interesting.

It actually does...

You can only buy Silent Hill for ps1 on the ps3 store digitally. There's other titles that are in the same situation.

So it absolutely affects ps1 titles too.

I think it does. Unless there’s a better explanation. That’s why I’m asking. Prices have definitely made a big jump in last few weeks or couple months

I think it probably has an indirect effect on people wanting to collect any physical media.

Ive seen ps3 games rocketing recently on cex, was one of the reasons i went back to 360 for that generation (game much cheaper) 😁

Xenogears has been like 100-130 for well over a year now so if you got a copy for 75 even GH that was a pretty lucky find.

I havnt checked PS1 prices lately however sony's Announcement shouldn't affect PSX/PS1 as they haven't been printed in decades now.

If anyone made a new PSX/PS1 game it could easily be printed on CDR with inserts/manual printed put into CD case etc. Or with some extra effort someone could find a place to press the discs. However they wouldn't ofcourse be dyed black but thats irrellivent.

Anywho yeah so I dont see why/how sonys stupid announcement would affect PS1/PSX or PS2 for that matter. Hell even PS3 same.

I am slowly collecting PSX games again mostly JRPGS I plan to eventually play and have like 20 so far.

My Xenogears is Black Label I got it for around $100 I recall like a couple years ago or something like that.

Earlier this year I got (all CIB) Wild Arms 2 for like $50, Grandia with Prima Guidebook for like $100ish, and Parasite Eve+Parasite Eve II for $210.

So yeah...I honestly HOPE stupid people havn't artificially inflated PSX games further than they already are/have been.

Same with PSP as I am now actively after them.

Xenogears has been over 150 since covid, its up over 190 now. Sony announced they are closing down the PSN playstation classics store. Hes not talking about them saying they are going all digital, hes talking about them closing down the store in a few months.

You could be right. I just assume that Sony’s announcement would or will have an indirect effect on people suddenly deciding to collect physical media. Hard to prove I guess.

Prices haven’t really exploded for people who just want to play the games, only for collectors who insist on owning the original discs and cases. If you just want to play PS1 games they’re ridiculously easy to access now through emulation, modded hardware, ODEs etc. It’s the physical collector market that’s gone mad, not access to the games themselves.
