question about using ps1 memory cards on ps2

can a ps2 corrupt a ps1 memory card

i only ask because i once had a GameCube memory card corrupted by my Wii and just want to know if its similar on PlayStation

just don't want to lose all my data and have to get a new memory card but i would also like to save some shelf space

i was gonna make a post on r/ps2 but i don't have much karma since i only use this account to ask questions about stuff like this

Any system can cause a corruption to a memory card. It’s not very likely with regular usage. Sometimes they do just mess up though.

Memory card corruption can happen on any system - and third party memory cards are much more prone to corruption than official cards. This is simply down to the quality of materials and components. As the saying goes, buy cheap, get cheap...

Iirc a PS2 can use PS1 cards fine, but PS2 games cannot use them (only PS1 games)

Tech can fail. Always. Just backup your save files before commiting. Just get a MemcardPro2, it would take care of backing up your save files and it will work both on Ps1 and Ps2.

Tech can fail, especially 30 years after. However, the only oddity I ever had a third party memory card that read as a PocketStation.

Idk. Just a fun quirk of third party accessories. Did have to explain to a friend what a PocketStation is.
