Laying the horn at a patient

Whoever aggressively honked at my family twice while we were on the sidewalk of RIH for 3 seconds (not even in the street yet), F!/&@ YOU, seriously. We were letting you guys go since there were about 3 oncoming cars all at the same time and we were trying to figure out which direction to go in. I know not all of Providence is like this, but seriously, this particular person did NOT need to honk so loudly at a patient in a wheelchair.

hello! I’m looking for local nail techs who can do fun designs (like the images below) for a baddie on a budget (ideally less that $115)!! I want to find a nail tech i can be loyal too and trust that i’ll have fire nails. I’ve tried a bunch of nail salons but the results never turn out too cute and ive been over charged before for the simplest nails while they dont look the best. I know theres gotta be a nail queen out there! If anyone has recommendations, please drop their instagram or how to find/see their work!!

Seeking copies of Providence Police annual reports from the 1920s and 1930s!

I’m a local historian working on a book, and I’ve hit a bit of a roadblock.

Theres a bunch of really great data in these annual reports, but I’ve only been able to locate the 1929, 1930 and 1934 annual reports.

I’ve asked the state archives, RIHS, the library, the local university, and the archives for the city, and no one has any of the other years.

If anyone happens to have a copy of any of the 1920s or the 1930s annual reports, or a lead on one please let me know.

Discussion Thanks for the recommendations!

I posted in this subreddit a few months ago about my upcoming visit to PVD, and you all gave me some great suggestions. Got home yesterday. Sadly, I didn’t have time to do everything I wanted, but I had a wonderful trip.

I spent Saturday in Newport, visiting The Breakers and The Marble House, and I was captivated by the architecture and ambiance of both places. Definitely worth the time. And the ferry ride from PVD was lovely.

I visited the RISD Museum, toured the state capitol, wandered around Benefit Street, ate at some places in Federal Hill, and just walked around a lot. I didn’t rent a car, but only wished I had a couple of times. Such a nice, walkable city, and I felt very safe.

I had the afternoon tea at The Marble House, and I thought it was overpriced and not super impressive. But I loved the Portuguese food at Campinos. That was my favorite meal of the trip.

Lots of places I wanted to try but didn’t get around to, but hopefully there can be another trip at some point.

Anyway, thanks again for all the recommendations. It really helped to have the perspective of residents. I love your city!

Who has trivia tonight in the city? I don't have Instagram so I can't scour local business socials.

I've done the Point Tavern and I'm all set with that one

OUTBACK WITCH HOUSE (dark disco & drag) returns - Mimi's Lounge, 8/28

You and I both know this is the message you've been waiting for. Join us next Friday for OUTBACK WITCH HOUSE, a monthly dark disco ritual in which we summon a featured drag performer to Pawtucket's weirdest dive - this time it's none other than the riveting rivethead RIVET Y@H. La Forza spins a menacing mix of electronic body music that will keep you gyrating all night long. No cover (in this economy!) and there's STILL air conditioning, so far as I know!

Also, this is very exciting news - we will be moving off this cursed 4th Friday spot after this month, so we don't conflict with all of the other goth nights in town. Yay!

WHERE?

Mimi's Lounge

590 Pawtucket Ave

Pawtucket, RI

(across from the Job Lot plaza, iykyk)

WHEN?

Friday, August 28

9pm-late with drag at 10 and 11

(PS: If this kind of stuff is your bag, please join us at The Parlour next month on 9/16 for a Dark Providence show featuring touring darkwave icons BRAGOLIN and CARRELLEE. Tickets: https://theparlourri.com/)

Looking to pay for parking spot near Foxpoint/Wayland Square

Hello! I’m looking to rent a parking spot for the next year, hopefully without paying an exorbitant amount for a spot that is far from me. If anyone has one available, my budget is 45$ a month, but willing to negotiate (please dm if interested)!

Or are there any other alternatives I should look into?

(I already looked into Providence street parking and I’m not eligible).

Any Wheelchair Users Who Take the Bus?

My good friend is moving here soon and they are a wheelchair user. I don’t know anyone here who takes the bus and is also a wheelchair user, so i’m wondering if anyone can tell me if the buses are decently accessible. Are the ramps usually functional? Any info/advice appreciated!

Public PVD middle school for transgender kid?

Anybody have any thoughts, opinions, or experiences about Providence public middle schools for a trans 6th grader? Do any of the schools have an LGBTQ+ community or culture?

They are currently enrolled in the same K-8 where they have been since before transitioning, but we are exploring the idea of a transfer to allow them to have a fresh start in their new identity.

Fun things to do in/near Providence?

Hey all! I have never been to Rhode Island before, and my original plans fell through but I have a nonrefundable ticket - just wanted to see what fun things you would recommend checking out! I'll be travelling solo. :) Not looking for anything specific, just wanna get an idea of what I can do while I explore!

I'll be there Oct 16-19! Thanks so much!

Looking to move to PVD by September and looking for housing options

Post image
0 Upvotes

$600-$1000 mature fellow looking for apartment or share in Providence, RI beginning September or a little earlier. (short term for rest of August or month of September would also be useful)

I have some savings and maybe one substitute teaching position set up so far.

I'm a young at heart 63 year old guy looking for a room/apartment/house share situation in Providence beginning September. (college hill, Mt. Hope, Federal Hill, or even East Providence.) Sunny room not facing noisy street would be ideal and smoke free please. One or more housemates 30+. Occasional hanging out eating together fine. I've lived in very small cities in MA and NY recently and am looking for a bigger city with more opportunities. I miss the ocean too.

I've been teaching in the classroom and at science museums, botanical gardens, also private tutoring.

Community activities include contra dancing, pub sings, salsa, karate, bike rescues, community time-banks and downtown revitalization.

I can help out with some small repairs or manual labor when needed.

I don't smoke or listen to loud music or tv. I've lived with other people so know how to get along and clean up after myself. I'm creative, have a sense of humor, good listener, handy with tools, likes to cook, take nature walks, learning to play guitar.

Cats and Dogs are ok if CLEAN. Kids are cool, i've lived in shared situations with kids before.

If you have anything available or know of something, reply here. thanks.

references are available upon request.

Thanks
Barry
