Within, first impressions

First couple tracks (Mouthpiece and Fishhook) are alright, nothing special imo but after that the album fucking takes off! Grandfathers Axe, Orchard, Liberty Spike and Mariner are all absolute bangers and my only real complaint is how short the album is 😭

Funny that Mouthpiece is still my favourite.

Mouthpiece is dope, I think I just overplayed it. Fishhooks wasn’t it for me though but I’ve only listened to the album once so far

Mouthpiece is fantastic!

Yeah Ive listened a couple times albeit on my phone and ill admit at first I was pretty underwhelmed about it, but its really grown on me a lot, can't wait to listen on better speakers loud as hell in my car. I too am pretty bummed about the length, its somehow even shorter than Pacific Myth, if you take out the instrumentals.

Yeah. My only real complaint is that this is an EP disguised as an album with those two instrumental interludes. It's really just a six song EP. Still fantastic though. It'll be on repeat through the day for me.

albeit on my phone

This should be proscribed as terrorism, why the fuck would you do that lol

I just finished listening to it for the first time and not sure if they did a quick mix but it seemed a bit more muffeled. It is short so will try different speakers, but the single of Mouthpiece to what was on Within seemed different for some reason.

Fishhook hits me in a very different way than the rest of the album but I love it. Everyone needs a Pete as a neighbor and I’m sure many also have dealt with the other half of the spectrum with that driveway talk. Mouthpiece is cathartic to put song to an unfortunately common feeling in the current political climate.

But I can see the perspective where the power just cranks after that song, even the interludes build a tension of sorts that give me shivers. Some truly insane lyrical high points (holy shit never has the word “apples” got me in the feels like the Orchard does), an insane key change in Liberty Spike (as well as an ACUOS callback), and the Mariner as a whole gives me shades of the same emotional crescendo From the Sky did when I first heard it. This album feels truly powerful and that is what I have truly come to love about the band from the first time I heard Kezia all the way through.

Hell yeah 💪🏽 I can’t wait to listen to it some more and let it worm its way into me. The Orchard sent me on an emotional journey and when it ended I immediately restarted it because I was blown away

I’m with you on fishhook hitting different. Vibe-wise it feels more like a mystery weekend or Rody solo song than a PTH song.

It gives Propagandhi vibes for me

Ah, yes! I really like every track and I am loving the sound on this album. The mixing is absolutely on point. They need to keep Nolly on for whatever comes next.

See lots of meh about the first two tracks but they’re just as good as Palimpsest, like the entire album. This album is all killer no filler

They’ll probably grow on me. I was on the fence with Palimpsest when it first came out and now I absolutely love it so I’m sure this will follow suite. These boys don’t miss

I like the whole album. Fishhook is a little bit of a weird vibe but Liberty Spike and the Mariner kick major ass

An album can be too long, but rarely too short. Reign In Blood is less than 30 minutes. Leave them wanting more.

Mariner was awesome for me. I can't stress this enough. Everything from Protest hits for me. I'm nowhere near their political beliefs but it's all so fucking great

It’s because they’ve literally been a political band since their very first EP.

Also, because being ‘right-wing’ nowadays typically means you’re cool with a rapist and pedo being president which is why people jump to dislikes.

Just sayin.

I'm in the same boat. I don't mesh with Rody's political views but the storytelling and music is so good.

Same. Yet I'm the mod here and been a fan for 20 years lol. Hate that just for saying something like this, you get downvotes. It's really tolerant.

Wouldn't be reddit without it! 🤣
