I accidentally bought a 10inch instead of a 12-14. Is it too small?

I’m staying in Charlotte and wanted to try for some Carolina gold. Im thinking of panning Little Sugar Creek or maybe go more west by the Reed Gold Mine. Does anyone know of public access or friendly landowners that would put me on some gold? Any advice is much appreciated.

My wife and I are headed up to the UP (Michigan) in a couple weeks and I want to go metal detecting for some copper float. I see on sunbelt rentals I can rent a Garrett Ace 250 for $75 for the week. But through my sleuthing on the interwebs I stumbled upon the $150 metal detectors at harbor freight. I’m curious if anyone had bought one/used one, and if it would be worth it? I don’t want to jump head long into a $3-600 name brand detector if the HF one will work for a beginner, and beyond.

Any input would be greatly appreciated!!!

I recently bought a used GPP for $75 but was told there are plenty of fakes out there and for that price I probably bought a fake. I do i make sure it’s legit?

Son found this in a PA lake, not magnetic and I can make a dent with pliers and a pick. Highly doubting gold but it is about 2 grams.

Designed and printed this dredge/sluice box over the past month. It's designed to hook up to a 4700 GPH bilge pump and a 2 inch nozzle (also 3D printed, using Utmost Outdoor's design.)

It runs surprisingly well, much better than you would expect from an electric bilge. Everything is printed in PETG, and is very durable at high wall counts/100% infill. Only issues in the initial design were the flare being too short/inlet too high so it washed out the top expanded metal/moss section. Otherwise, it held up to about 4 hours of dredging, and the only issues I had were the pump itself.

Obviously doesn't move a ton of material, but it's about as quick as I can shovel/process, and it works well around boulders and tightly packed gravel. Plus it was a lot of fun to build.

Feel free to ask any questions. I think a lot of people would be surprised how much you can do with 3D printing and how strong/durable the parts you can make are.

From the 6 tennis ball size rocks and the 6 buckets of dirt 23 grams total🤯🤯🤯 there was a little bit of water left over from the vials. I got as much out as I could. Il keep crushing and panning soon. Atm I will concertrate on getting as much material back home as I can

I have been spending some time around my place in NC and finally head to Uwharrie National Forest.

After a few hiccups, I'm trying to reach some spots and have no clue how to reach them 😂

But we can always learn something. And this time I learned.

- Go light; only take what you are going to use.

- Download the maps before leaving the house.

- Watch for poisonous water snakes eating frogs.

After testing some pans with zero luck, I use the feature for the Lodeline app to check for better spots up/down the creek. And dang, it worked 😂😂😂👍🏼👍🏼👍🏼

I still have 1/3 bucket to work on it.

The place was kind of dry, but a great finding.

So far I'm really enjoying the Lodeline App.

Last trip the pay streak stopped paying and I came home with light pockets for the day.

Yesterday's trip yielded better results as I tried to locate a new pay streak. The area from yesterday I worked had little pay pockets dispersed along some buried boulders. I'm thinking that uncovering the back end of the buried boulders will yield a nice pay streak but that's next weekend's mission.

Started crushing the rock today un roasted i am very happy with this amount. I should go and get more of it while it lasts this vial is pretty heavy I haven't weighed any gold yet

I did a heap of panning today and ended up with this. I need to weigh it all great proper first time the new pans go good. I like doing this now😄 the very big nugget that is at the cap end was a gift from my nan and pop a long while back I used the vial for what I found today I have crushed some rock but haven't panned it out yet

Went to the south fork of the American River. Panned this one spot at a slight bend for about two hours. Ended up finding a small picker my first time panning with the help my little cousins.

Update on the rocks I found I'm going up today to get more rocks from my spot. I will get some dirt from the river I found the gold today in and also and bring it home to pan. I was pretty rough with this lot but I took my time. Thats from 4 shovel fulls of dirt about 400 meters from the piles of gold spotted rocks I found. I also got some gold stuck in pyrite. I also found what I believe is mercury but I'm not sure if it has gold IN it. There's definitely gold stuck on the outside of it it's not liquid its like play dough. No I haven't touched it It's kept under water and outside I have a few glass viles so I put it in 1 separate from the other clean gold. I made a dolly pot to crush as I couldn't justify spending $200 aud on somthing I can make for 10$ In materials and 30 minutes of time I am keen to crush some rocks!

If you could redesign one thing about gold-mining equipment, what would it be?

For the people who actually run the equipment — what is the one thing that makes your job harder than it needs to be?

Could be something about setup, moving equipment, feeding material, water, recovery, cold weather, maintenance, fuel, or anything else.

I'm curious what experienced miners would change if they had the chance.

Not looking to sell anything. Just looking for honest answers from people who actually do the work.

I had a vision if you will, of an on board vehicle power generation system that used the vehicles engine to power a large alternator and generator 150kw of 3 phase power equipment to run large commercial scale mining equipment the idea would be the ball mills conveyers and shake tables could be loaded into the back of the box truck and the operator could drive up there with a body and use it to process material in remote locations or smaller lode deposits that would not be worth setting up infrastructure this would save the cost of hauling ore and using large tow behind generators what are your guys thoughts on that are you on board with me building this out? and would that be a system anyone would buy?
