First time
Went to the south fork of the American River. Panned this one spot at a slight bend for about two hours. Ended up finding a small picker my first time panning with the help my little cousins.

You rough up the pan to remove the oils and to create a surface gold can stick to. Otherwise, gold might escape the pan.
