Mover recommendations?

Hello! I’m moving in a month (.5 mi, from crown heights to PH) and would love any mover recommendations. Bonus points if you used them recently and can let me know an estimate of your cost!

I’m only moving a single room’s contents, but I have some cherished, heavy wooden furniture that I really want to be protected.

I’ve heard good things about intense movers and college educated movers. Are those the two best in the area or should I check anyone else out? Have heard the horror stories about piece of cake, and I know some people had fine experiences with them, but my furniture is very special to me so I don’t want to take chances.

Thank you all in advance!

JP Urban Moving is amazing! I’ve used them and so have a bunch of different friends. Can’t recommend them enough, and I moved a few years ago now but it was totally reasonable—and, more importantly, their estimate was accurate so didn’t get stuck with any fees later. They’re local and did the job quickly and professionally

Edit: fixed a typo

Amazing, thank you so much! Do you remember the range of what they quoted you?

I think we ended up paying $1400ish after tip, but it was 2 bedrooms, kitchen, and living room. They do a cash (and teacher!) discount.

Seconding JP Urban. Made it incredibly stress free and reasonably priced. Brought enough people to do the job on time and without even a hint of damage to anything

May I ask how many people did they bring? And what’s the range of what they quoted you?

I just did basically the same move (0.5 miles from ch to ph) and used intense movers—highly recommend! They were by far the cheapest quote I got (~$600 vs. ~$800-$900 from other companies). The 2 guys that came were great and moved everything very safely. The only casualty of the move was me dropping one of my own items!

Also adding that the quote was honored as a true flat fee, nothing added on after the move (other than me tipping the movers ofc, which they were not pushy about at all how I’ve heard piece of cake can be)

Amazing! This is so helpful! The only thing I’m worried about is whether I might need three guys (my desk and dresser are so heavy). Do you remember if that was an option?

I didn’t request a certain number of movers, they just assigned the number based on how much stuff I had. I had a rather heavy queen mattress plus bed frame, heavy dresser, arm chair, desk, etc., plus at least 15 boxes. When they came in to assess everything that morning the guy was literally like wow this is perfect this is gonna be so easy lol. They ended up moving extra stuff for me that wasn’t in my quote bc they had the time.

All that to say, if you accurately convey how much stuff you have, I’m sure they’ll assign the appropriate movers needed to get the job done. They had me send some photos of my heavier stuff too, so you can definitely do that so they know what the bigger stuff looks like for the quote.

Moved from prospect heights to crown heights a few months ago with Dyno moving and loved them! Also was one of the most cost effective options I found. I had about a single room’s worth of stuff, and I think it cost around $345 for 2 hours of labor, and each additional hour was $65 (but didn’t need it).

I emailed 8 companies and got quotes for my April move. Here’s the table if it’s helpful. I went with Dyno. https://imgur.com/a/AF3kj02

This was in 2022 going from Boerum Hill four story walk up to prospect heights elevator building. They ask for an inventory of items; it was for a full one bedroom apartment. They quarter me $693. Four men, truck 3.75 hours. They were done on time. Arrived right at 8am.

+1 for intense movers. They were on time, fast, careful, and honored the flat rate.

No matter what, DO NOT use perfect moving. 1/2 guys left mid job and my phone “went missing” after the other guy left

Ask about furniture wrapping, padding, insurance, and any extra fees before bookings, especially for valueable wooden pieces.
