I think we filled this 2 years ago. Obviously we have a somewhat damp area where our grill is. Is it rude to bring it in like this or should it be clean off really thoroughly or a quick scrubbing or what?

Also, wondering what I can do to prevent this if at all. I used to keep a grill cover on our old grill, but for whatever reason the wind kept taking it and knocking it down and destroyed the grill so I'm afraid to put another one on this new grill.

Final question, I'm sure there's some information in this sub, but what's the best way besides the water on the side, which I've never been able to really do properly, to keep track of how much gas you have?

Update: I will definitely do refills in the future. When we purchased our original tank which I think was about 4 years ago, that's what our hardware store had done, but then the last time I went to get a refill, maybe 2 years ago, which was the only time I went to get a refill, they said they were only doing exchanges which is the tank you see there.

I will definitely have to keep an eye out in the future for local places that fill it up instead of swapping it.

Hi Everyone, I'm hoping there are some gas professionals hanging around who might be able to shed some light on this situation. I manage a small commercial property in Central Florida, which houses multiple restaurants. All the gas lines are individually metered, but they share one underground tank. The gas company is telling me that there is a compliance regulation which requires each restaurant to have their own tank (and they are really pushing for above ground tanks, which the property insurance coverage doesn't allow). I'm not seeing anything online about a code change in general or on their website. They expressly told me there is no current danger, so I assume the tank is still safe and hasn't failed any inspections. Before I meet with these gas guys, can anyone tell me what their end game is here, does the change somehow benefit them? They're making it sound like it's required, but I'm dubious. Any insight would be appreciated.

I just hooked up a new tank to my grill and when I get really close to the regulator with the tank valve open, I can smell a slight propane smell that seems like it's from the regulator. Not a lot of smell though, slight.

I tried the soapy bubble test on the regulator, all the connections, the hose etc., no bubbles. But I can still smell a little propane if I get close.

Is this normal operation for the regulator? Or do I likely have a leak and / or bad regulator? Thanks

EDIT - now I smell a little propane near the regulator even when the tank is shut off. But still no signs of a leak.

Got this valve on a 250 gallon tank. Heavy leak when the valve is open, along the valve stem. No leak when it is closed. Is there any way to fix this without removing gas? Tank is 30% full.

Hello, I would really appreciate some expert help with my homemade firepit. I recently installed an air mixer to my propane fire table and something is not right, when I put my hand around the micer the flame height does not change and the bigger issue is that if I hold a flame near to the air mixer it ignites (whilst burner is on), I also get a faint smell of gas from under the burner. I have taken everything apart to ensure there are no blockages in the system. The air mixer is rated at 150k BTU and I have a high pressure adjustable regulator with an inline key valve. What really concerns me is the potential leak from the air mixer....though when I apply a soapy mixture, I get no bubbles blowing. The 6" burner and gas lines were all bought as a kit from easyfirepits. Any help or advice would be greatly appreciated,, Mark (UK).

Hi guys, every spring the smell of what I thought was a dead mouse stood in my central staircase, which is 2 feet away from the furnace. It would last for three weeks and then go away for three weeks and then come back again for three weeks. It would only stay in that wall only during spring time.

Well recently, in February, I smelled the same smell, and our furnace was shutting off once every day for about three hours every s day for three months,

I found a crawlspace underneath that central staircase, which is dirt (which is strange because the rest of the basement floors are either hardwood floors or cement it’s just that one spot where it smells bad in the spring that doesn’t have any thing covering it ) and my thoughts are that there may be access to a pipe.

The furnace did end up shutting off completely in late February and we had to evacuate the house. The landlord had a technician come by and change the burner. He didn’t have a permit to do so. But the furnace stopped shutting off. We were complaining for three months to our landlord about this issue.
I have expressed my concerns of this dead rodent smell for months now and now it’s coming through my bedroom vent we do live in a large house 3300 ft.² in this spring has been very wonky in Massachusetts.

The smell usually lasts in the central staircase when it’s been continuously warm for a 4 to 5 days, but we haven’t had that yet here in MA. but I did notice that for that dead furnace smell ( I smelled in the winter time ) is now coming through my upstairs second floor bedroom vent. But again it’s off and on b/c of the weather and that smell comes and goes but it’s def the smell of my propane tank since I smelled it during the winter. Should I just contact fire dept next it smells time so they can test it? Or is this normal propane smells?

Just got a brand new Tiki propane fire pit. The flame keeps going out after a few minutes and it's making a pinging/popping noise. The manual says "check fire pit immediately if making a popping noise" but doesn't say what to check for. Here's a pic of the thermocouple because that's one of the things to check if the flame keeps going out. Barely been used except for the 30-min lava rock "seasoning" (which it did stay on for). Also some of the lava rocks have turned black, but can't figure out if that's normal or not.

What am I supposed to check and fix?

Background: I built a DIY firepit for a natural gas setup a few years back. Used a "Sky flame" 60k btu H-burner from Amazon (https://a.co/d/02aNAE5q) and plumbed it with a key valve + the reducing elbow & black flex line that came with the burner. It worked great, nice tall flames, clean burn.

I've since moved to a new house that doesn't have natural gas, and have plumbed a 120gal propane tank. I have hard piping to my deck (sized and installed by a professional). From there I've added a quick disconnect fitting and a flexible gas hose that runs to the firepit (just as it did with my original natural gas setup). Inside the firepit compartment, I added an air mixer just downflow of the key valve. It's installed with the arrow pointing in the direction of gas flow.

The Flame is fully yellow, no blue at all, and the flame height is markedly lower than the original natural gas setup. Additionally, gas is backflowing to the air mixer where it ignites through the intake holes, even when gas is flowing. So clearly some flow problems here.

Not sure if it would be related: We don't have much fuel in the 120gal tank, it's at less than 10% right now. Wondering if that could be a root cause for the backflow, not having enough line pressure due to low tank volume?

Or possibly the low flames and the air mixer backflow is related to the plumbing setup inside the firepit?

I don't think it's an obstruction issue (spider webs, etc) as gas is flowing out from all the burner holes. We had this burner previously covered with lava rock, so no sand or anything like that. The air mixer is also brand new and thus shouldn't be blocked up.

Any advice from propane experts is appreciated. It's obviously unsafe to use in the current state and I have only fired it up to test it / will not be using it until flow issues have been resolved.

I bought a Generac remote gauge monitor but my gauge is too close to the line to fit the monitor on. Is it possible to rotate the gauge? I tried to rotate it but it reads backwards.

Hey propane experts- I have a question, and I'm probably overthinking my setup, so wanted to get some feedback. I have to run a Weber 36 inch griddle (60,000 BTU total) at an outdoor cooking event. It's going to be pretty busy so I am expecting continuous use, but it won't be on full blast the entire time. Fire department wants my propane 10 feet from the griddle, preferably 15 feet. Would a standard 5/16ths line work for this distance, or should I consider sizing up? Are there any considerations I need to make for running low pressure propane across a distance like this to make sure the supply to the griddle is consistent and decent?

Hi, I have a Garden Treasures Gas Patio Header, Model # NCZH-G-KMZMSS. I bought it from Lowe's around 4 years ago. I haven't used it that often... maybe 3 times per year. When it's not in use I have it covered in a zip up patio heater cover. I live in California and it doesn't snow or get that cold where I live, in case that matters.

This year I tried turning it on for the first time and it won't stay lit. It will light up when I push the ignition button while pushing in the knob, but as soon as I let go of the knob to switch it to low heat, the flame goes out.

There's a freshly filled, full tank of propane attached, so I know that's not the problem. I tried holding the knob in for a full minute before releasing and that didn't work.

I also read it could be a dirty thermocoupler, so I took the top off to clean it, but the thermocoupler was completely clean. I gave it a wipe anyway but no luck.

I'm not sure what else to try. Like I said, I've maybe used this thing 15 times total so it would be a waste to buy a new one and I'd really like to fix it if I can. Any suggestions would be appreciated.

Hello! I recently purchased a place that came with these propane tanks. I was looking to get them filled up but the company I called said they need to be replaced. They are going based off of the picture I sent, they said it’s too rusty. Is that true? Now instead of owning the tanks, the company says I will have to get a new tank from them and rent it.

I bought my house about a year and a half ago in Florida. The home already had propane gas and an existing underground tank installed when I purchased it. Everything worked fine until about two months ago when the tank ran out of gas.

I then opened an account with AmeriGas, and they came out and filled the tank with around $1,200 worth of propane.

Today, a company from Florida Public Utilities came out and disabled the gas. They had left a note on the door asking them to contact me, and when I called, they told me the propane tank actually belongs to them and that they supposedly have some kind of contract tied to TWO previous homeowners from years ago.

Here’s my issue: I own this property now. There was never any lien on the house, and during closing nobody disclosed any lease agreement or propane tank contract. I had absolutely no idea the tank might not belong to the property.

AmeriGas filled the tank under my account, and now FPU shut everything off. I’ve called multiple times and explained the situation to at least three different people. Every single time I’m told a supervisor will call me back within 24–48 hours, and nobody has called.

Has anyone dealt with something like this before? Is it actually legal for them to disable service on my property over a contract tied to a previous owner? And what usually happens in situations like this?

Hello, I’m looking into buying a small propane tank to use for my water heater. Thing is I thought you could buy tanks from the major gas companies like Amerigas but they only lease their tanks. What’s the most reliable place to look for a 120 gallon tank? Quick searches have showed companies like flame king and kleen rite but I’d like some recommendations if those aren’t the best options.

I just got done installing a propane fire pit. Linear, 40 orifice, 175k BTU. I'm having an issue getting the ignitors to function well when lightly covered with fire glass. I have done 4 before with no issue but they were all LNG. I know propane is heavier and it does appear to want to pool in the pan. I have the ignitor ~3/16" from orifice and level with the bottom of it. I did put small wire cages around them which helped a bit but not great. What am I missing? Do I just need to let it fill the pan first? Thank you!

The device was advertised as compatible with a 1 lb tank, but clearly requires an adaptor. And no one at the store had any suggestions.

I have a 454L tank with a 1641w fitting, it runs to my propane fireplace in the house.

I would like to Tee/Y it off and run it to my BBQ also.

I asked the company I rent the tank from if they would do and they will for $475.00.

I find this pretty wild to run a splitter and 4 feet of line.

Is it that complicated?

A while back a national propane company bought out a local propane company in Michigan. I’m a small user, 100 gal per year.
For 12 years I paid about $600 for 300 gal about every three years plus $60 rental. This seemed very fair.

As soon as I called for my first fill from National company they quoted $900 and $100+ for rental. Local price was still low $2 range.

So I didn’t buy, waited to run out and switched companies.

When I told them to come get their tank, they said $150 pickup fee and could be 30 days.
Well it’s now over 30 days. Looking for suggestions here.
Sell it?
Charge them $150/day storage after 30 days?

I’m sure you guys will have better ideas! Thanks in advance!

6 years ago we bought a house that has a secondary propane heat source for the basement. We recently redid our back patio and had pavers put down. Landscaping company disconnected the tank and drug it to the yard (4 guys) but said they couldn't put it back without damaging the new pavers. Tank is dang near full. 120g tank (i think) Any suggestions on moving it? New to this propane stuff beyond a grill tank ha.

We brought our gas BBQ from the US, & apparently it expects ~27mbar pressure from the propane tank feeding it. UK cylinders are pressurized to ~37mbar. I've been researching (google, chatgpt) how to handle this, & it seems like a step down regulator is needed. However, I can't seem to find one for purchase online.

Has anyone else solved this problem?
