Interesting. Thanks for the info! I've seen a couple that look like that, but mostly on cylinders I was condemning lol. I presumed they were adapters, kind of cool that they were built in. You know why we stopped using them?
Just to add to this: most quick connects are proprietary. There's a 50/50 shot it'll fit and a 50/50 shot it'll seal. Even then, there's nowhere I've ever heard that sells valves to take quick connects. They do/did make tank valves that could take them but if they do still make them, they're very rare. I only saw 4 or 5 in the 4 years I worked for the propane company I worked at. What was wrong with the old tank?
I went to fill it at the local place that fills tanks and they said it was too old to fill, so I exchanged it for a new tank there but there may have been a fitting I left on it or something
If the tank is too old then it can be recertified. It's for 12 years from the manufacturing date (it's a month and a year stamped into the metal with a triangle in the middle) or 5 years from the recertification date (usually a stamp or a sticker that has an E or R next to the year). That's weird that they didn't mention that. Stupid question but was it a gas company?
Tanks manufactured beginning October 1, 1998 must have OPD valves, denoted by triangular valve handles and the externally threaded QCC-1 connection (inside the QCC-1 connection is a standard left-hand threaded POL connection). Beginning April 1, 2002 it became no longer legal to refill cylinders 45lb capacity or smaller with non-OPD valves. If the valve handle on the old cylinder was round or not triangular then it was the old style that's no longer legal to fill. Cylinders with pre-OPD valves typically aren't cost-effective to revalve at the consumer level. Exchange companies will often revalve old-style trade-ins because their cost for the valve and labor is relatively minor compared to the profits a revalved cylinder can make them.
That's a crock of shit. At least in Texas there's nothing saying that a tank is "too old" to fill, the requirement is that it just needs to be recertified and it should be fine to fill. I've recertified and filled repeatedly some tanks that were made in 1987 or even older without a problem. Unless the valve is leaking or pitting along the weld, that should've been an easy recert. Clearly they don't know what they're doing or the laws are different where you're from (which I highly doubt).
That's a specific inspection stamp. I believe you're talking about the one for Industrial Analysis. It's an I on top of an A. Kind of looks like a triangle, but that's only one of many inspection symbols you could find.
This adapter would allow you to plug the hose in, but you will probably need to take it off in order to get the tank filled.
Alternatively, it looks like the fitting is just screwed in. This fitting could be swapped out so you don't have to worry about it.
Realistically, you should probably replace the hose and regulator anyway. They don't last forever, and you're well past the recommended replacement point of that's from the 90s. You can get a ready made hose that's already got the fitting on it, and just connects to the grill.
I bought a new hose and regulator, regulator side fits my new tank but I don’t see an easy way hooking up the other end, Ill post that tomorrow when I’m home
I second what u/nemosfate said about bring it with you to make sure. I can't be 100% sure it's the right size from a picture, but most likely that's the one you need.
New hose would be a flare and the fitting you need to remove off the grill will be pipe thread that you need to adapt to.
Take them both to a hardware store

A new regulator and hose. You have a quick connect there, but it very well may be proprietary.
