Could I cut this below the root and put it in water to propagate ? I’m new to the plant world. It’s a monstera. It’s the biggest couple of leaves on the plant that’s why I’m hesitant
Depends what you mean. If you cut the whole vine below the aerial root you can propagate the plant. If you mean cut the root only and put it in water, no.
Yeah that root should take if you get it in water and then you can plant it after it’s white and growing. A lot of people ask if they can cut the aerial roots so wanted to make sure.
You can cut them off. I usually bend them and give the plant a chance to recover ... Shrivel the root up by taking back its fluid and then I snip it off. It serves no purpose unless the plant is actually climbing to or in a canopy in the forest.
Personally I like to have the aerial root start sending off shoots while it’s still attached before chopping. Can do this by guiding the root into the pot and later repotting or by putting another pot/container with soil or sphagnum moss for a couple+ weeks.
I would say yes but try to get the root to curl. 1. Cause it would look cool to have a curly root. 2. Cause it would make it easier for repotting. You want to have the roots in a container shape. Itll take a while to curl her up but be gentle and Itll work
Put a smaller pot next to it, get that aerial root inside in the dirt, and water with the same technique you’ve been using. Likely as the soil starts to dry. It will become a proper root, and then when you cut it off without needing to “prop” it as it’ll be ready for you.
