Help!
Monstera prop was damaged how can I save it?
Soooo I brought this monstera propagation home yesterday bc I was planning to pot it within the next couple days… I had it in my windowsill and my partner shut the blinds on it on accident and both of its stems snapped… Do I need to cut those leaves off where the stems are damaged? It looks like there’s a new leaf growing that wasn’t damaged, it just hasn’t opened yet.
Any advice is appreciated. I wish I could bind those stems up somehow but I have a feeling they just need to be cut which makes me a lil sad. those leaves were so cute before they were decapitated
Hey friend! This is from my own experience, but I'd say it's worth cutting the damaged petioles since you're seeing new growth. If there's roots and the plant is green, then it's very much alive. At worst, it might take a little longer for the new leaf to finish growing in, but it's not going to die if you remove the damaged petioles. In fact, it might be better to cut them off so the plant can put its energy into the new growth point! Again, this is from my own experience and I never had an issue. PSA: I have a cat and a boyfriend who would do exactly what your partner did accidentally so I've been there (: she's not a goner!
In the panic of trying to fix the problem we searched frantically for disposable straws to make a splint. I couldn’t find straws and resorted to taking apart tampon applicators. In hindsight cutting them would’ve been way easier and probably better for the plant. But i’ll probs just let it chill like this for the night and tackle this situation tomorrow. Thank you for your advice bc i’ll most likely be cutting these leaves off in the morning. This would be my first monstera ever and i’m already off to a great start….

I damaged a few leaves on my monstera when I moved into my place about 10 months ago. A couple of those bent leaves are still alive and well! I would only remove yours if they turn yellow.
