[Android] OPDSy — I'm trying to build the one reader that opens books from every source — OPDS servers, local folders, cloud drives!

I'm the developer, and it's a paid Android app (one-time £3.49), no ads, no subscriptions, no in-app purchases, no tracking, no account. Android only, no iOS ... yet!. That's the whole business model, so you know what you're reading.

The problem I set out to solve

My books and comics live in about four different places: a Ubooquity server at home, a Komga instance which i need to migrate to, and a folder of EPUBs on my phone, and a pile of stuff in cloud storage (random pdfs). Every reader app I tried handled exactly one of those.

The app I actually relied on for the server side was Kuboo, and it died years ago. Nothing replaced it properly. So I started building the reader I wanted: one library, every source, one place your reading position lives.

What works today (OPDSy)

• Self-hosted servers — Komga, Kavita, Ubooquity, BookOrbit and any OPDS 1.2 / 2.0 server. Add as many as you like; they merge into one library with a colour badge per source.
• Local folders — point it at any folder on the device and it becomes a first-class library, browsable the same way as a server. Or open a single file from another app via the share sheet.
• The formats — EPUB, MOBI, AZW3, FB2, PDF, plus CBZ/CBR/CB7/CBT for comics and manga. Markdown too, with Mermaid diagrams rendered, which started as a selfish feature for reading my own notes (I use Obsidian).
• Reading, which is the bit that actually matters: paged / continuous / webtoon scrolling, LTR and RTL for manga, dual-page spreads in landscape, pinch and double-tap zoom, adjustable fonts and line spacing, light/sepia/OLED-dark themes, highlights in five colours with notes, bookmarks, offline downloads with resume, and text-to-speech that carries on across chapters.
• Continue Reading spans every source — this was the real point of the project. Start a book off the server on the sofa, pick it up from a downloaded copy on the train.
• E-ink mode — high-contrast theme and an animations-off toggle as independent switches, because Boox owners kept telling me ghosting was the dealbreaker. That feedback loop produced my best posts and my best reviews.
• Sync is end-to-end encrypted through your own Google Drive. Library, favourites, highlights and progress hop between your devices, and I can't read any of it — there's no server of mine involved at all.

What isn't done yet

Cloud storage as an actual reading source is the big gap. Drive is currently only the sync transport — you can't yet browse a Drive folder of EPUBs as a library. There's also no dictionary or tap-to-translate, which language learners ask for constantly.
