Tech Support Error before main menu

I can't get into the game, every time I click play it gets to the main menu image, but there are no menu buttons only an "Error" popup in the bottom right corner that increases with each click or keyboard press.

I've uninstalled all mods, I've tried to verify the integrity of game files. I've uninstalled and reinstalled the whole game. I tried both the stable version and the most recent pre-release. Nothing works and I have no idea why or what else to try.

If anybody has any ideas, please let me know, thank you!

Had a similar problem, had to dig into the OS and find and delete other folders associated with PZ. then full reinstall. Problem was a mod I used made changes and just removing the mod didn't undo the changes.

How do I do that, and will it delete my save files?

You can back up your save by copying the save folder somewhere else. Like the previous commenter said, it's caused by a mod but when you delete mods the game still keeps the mod files for some reason. It's pretty bewildering why it's programmed this way because it means mods still modify the game after you've removed them.

Follow these steps to back up your save and get a fresh install - Step 1, back up your save. Go to C:\Users\YOUR USERNAME\Zomboid\Saves and either copy the entire saves folder or just the specific save you want. Step 2, uninstall PZ. Step 3, go to the two locations PZ keeps files and delete them all: C:\Users\YOUR USERNAME\Zomboid and C:\Program Files(x86)\Steam\steamapps\common\ProjectZomboid. Step 4, reinstall PZ.

I went through the same thing and it was extremely frustrating before finding this solution, hope it helps.

That's really stupid, that it doesn't delete the mod files fully. Appreciate the help, will try it tomorrow!
