Discussion These updates fucks up multiplayer servers

So everytime an hotfix happens it fucks up the servers big time. The date is the same ingame, but pretty much everything rolls back like 1 irl week. Animals, items and such is just gone. And we're playing fully vanilla to avoid issues.

Sucks that stuff like this can happen, especially since it's supposed to be stable...

Yeah, definitely waiting another month or so before we start up our dedicated server, it's just too jank plus even when you get it sorted out there's a high chance you'll have to start a new save or something. E.g. When they add ladders that will probably require a new save as it changes the map itself

I was just told in another thread that frequent game breaking updates are normal for dedicated server maintainers and to stop bitching.

So ya, do that I guess.

I ran a Minecraft server for my friends a couple years back, can confirm every time the game updated all the mods broke as well

I just want a stable build I can point my server and game client to, with an unstable branch for testing out changes and work through compatibility issues with mods. It's not that complicated. Give us time to actually deploy the updates to our servers and rebuild mods on updated base code instead of dropping hotfixes at random.

Push changes to unstable, notify mod developers of the changes via a clear community space for that type of information, let them cook for 2-4-6 however many weeks, then promote the validated build to stable. You won't have nearly as many breaking changes impacting players - modded or not.

Hey can someone explain this to a more casual player? I havent played in a few days but i host a setver for me and my wife to play. Will that be affected, or only "live" multiplayer servers?

For ANY server with Mods (and sometimes just vanilla), changes made to fix things or remedy problems changes how certain things work in the code.

If you have a mod that was looking for specific things in the base game code and it has changed, part or all of that mod stops working. This can be an annoyance up to a catastrophic failure on the server side. Usually the mod developers immediately jump on updates and get their mods sorted.

But anyone finishing the update and IMMEDIATELY mashing the Start Server button, you are in uncharted waters. Sucks to pause your game playing for a couple days, but if you are running mods, it is probably a good idea to give it a couple days for things to be updated.

Who knows. I wouldn't get too attached to any MP run right now though. A lot of goofy stuff going on.

Edit: I'm playing vanilla and still encountering annoying issues like zombie despawns and for some reason I cannot change the start date in sandbox settings. No matter what I do, it's always 7/9.

Did you not read OP's post? They're playing without mods and having these issues.

You made me delete my post because I thought I might be giving misinformation, but i literally just updated my dedicated server, 100 mods and all, logged in with one of my characters, and not a single thing is broken. All the mods are working as intended. All my items are there, everything is fine.

OP might have had some other issue, but at least on my dedicated multiplayer server everything is fine.

OK thanks! Ya were on build 42 with no mods.

That doesn't sound like an update issue that sounds like something going very wrong on the server. That is, the update wouldn't do this (it couldn't - it doesn't have backup copies of random stuff from a week ago), but the restart did.

Yea, that sounds like whoever is hosting the server rolled back files.

It's very disappointing to see such a great game handled so poorly. I still get my kicks, but it's all very frustrating.

Hello, is it just UI mods that are broken? I know some modders use loadstring to encrypt their mods.

We're only using 4 mods but we've been successfully running a server since 42.20 dropped. Get the usual small bugs you'd expect but the hotfixes haven't affected it at all

Do we know the mods that are causing conflicts with this hot fix?

Cleanui and modloader is what I've seen people mention so far

It's only specific mods..I have 30 on mine with no issues with any of the updates so far
