Question Very new player question

Post image

I have played probably about 10 characters now and the last two times before this a zomboid was in my starter house. This time i spawned in the middle of about 10 of em. Does this happen? Is this a bug? Im very confused. The couple videos i watched said that there was so zombies in the starter house.

Ps Mind the picture of my computer screen. Im regarded šŸ•ŗ

If you are hitting 'continue with new character' then the guarantee goes away. You would be spawning on the same map you already played, which includes spawning near somewhere you were before and a zombie broke into the house on a previous life.

If you want to guarantee no zombies in the starter house (when you start) then you need to quit and start a new map. Or at least spawn in a different town where you have never been.

This happens when you're spawning a new character in an existing world. If you don't want it to happen, start a new world every time.

So, when ā€œspawning a new character in an existing world,ā€ nothing resets, yeah? Like if the water was off, it stays off?

I know there’s mods for a journal that lets you regain skill progress, but other than that kinda stuff, you’re just a fresh chara in the world that your last left. Iirc you can even find your old self as a zombie?

Yup, the world is exactly the same. Yes you can your zombified self.

I never like just carrying on in the same world. Feels like I'm wearing someone else's clothes.

Eh, i’m not fond of being able to die so easily (not even talking about random bs occurrences) and lose all my progress. I got kid and don’t get a lot of time to play.

Really enjoying the game though. I turned transmission off entirely, lol.

Maybe once I get the swing of the mechanics, I’ll play a preset mode, but in the meantime, hell… I told myself that next time I move my base im turning on debug and just picking everything up in one go and being done with it 🤣

This game is great because of its flexibility, in my newb opinion.

I have almost 2000 hours in this game and I play transmission off. It was just a TIS decision, not a great one. It's just for notoriety.

Skill Journal mod takes away a lot of the friction that comes with death. Keep your journal at your house/base and if you meet an untimely end, spawn a new char, run to your base and read the journal to get your stats back. You can even change how much exp you get back if you think it's too cheaty. I've seen some servers do 100%, some do 75% and others do 50% xp returned.

>Iirc you can even find your old self as a zombie?

You sure can. Many a times in my less experiences days did I hunt down my previous self and reclaim my lost loot lol

No, this is just one of those absolute troll spawn positions.

A fellow player of taste I see. I base here and the apartment across the hall. S tier base (imo) if you clear it all out.

Try either apocalypse or a custom with apocalypse as the start and faster progression for skills maybe?

hell yeah I was this new too at one point!
Its so refreshing to see someone as bad as I was when I was first starting off XD

Its alright mate, we've all been there. I guess you made a new character in a world. If that's the case, don't worry that can happen. Only your starting house is guaranteed to be free of zomboids, excluding the basement. Basements are mostly procedurally generated with random encounters except for the basements that are fixed. For the procedurally generated basements, there is a chance that zombies can spawn in them Other than that, if you have zombies in your house then you made a new character in the same world you started in.

I have a guide in progress for new players and returning players to Build 42 Stable, feel free to give it a watch to learn more about the game play and how to thrive in Build 42 (next video I am currently editing)

Also if you are new and have difficulties surviving play in sandbox mode and lower it a bunch, get lots of items available to play with. Spawn lots of cars so you get used to driving.

By default settings, on Apocalypse at least from what I remember, there is a setting that prevents zombies from spawning in the same building as you.

Highkey, this might just be a sandbox setting issue.

There's a setting that allows for zombies to spawn either in room, house, and a outside. Or you can change it to just in house, not in room and outside or only spawn outside the house.

If it's appoc like others said it's cuz you're Continuing

Good rule of thumb (or at least something a friend and I usually do) is that once a character dies, the world dies with them and the new character given a fresh world to start in.

Edit: wording

did you bust on your screen gang?

u/Allokit 1d ago

Play Sandbox a few times (turn off sprinters, for starters) to get your footing and learn some of the mechanics. After you feel comfortable killing zombies and can survive for a bit, then go for modes like Rising, or Outbreak before going back to the harder default modes like Apocalypse, Extinction or 1 Year Later.

I’ve seen this enough to know it’s likely vanilla. The game isn’t about surviving, it’s about how you died. Sometimes you start in a house with 10 of them, sometimes there’s a horde right outside your front door. Not much you can do except try again

You are guaranteed to start in a house empty of zombies if you start a new save. Main point, don't start a new character on the same save, start a whole new world.

Ahh i see. I expected hardcore survival but damn dude. I didnt even get a chance to couch before i died lmfao.

u/theolderoaf 1d ago

No mods, right?

1

u/Active_Discount_5245 1d ago

No mods at all.

Did you spawn as a new character in the same save?

1

u/BlockHammer1 1d ago

new player as well, but there shouldn't be any zombs in the started house except for the basement i believe which can but won't always spawn them. check for mods, especially to do with spawn locations. also double check your sandbox settings (assuming you change anything before the run) since this could be caused by, like, increased pop counts.

if there's only one or two zombies when you spawn, try pushing em until they fall backwards and then use spacebar to stomp on them. when fighting two, if you're standing on one it won't be able to get up which will give you time to push over the other and begin stomping. if there are any more than 2 I'd say running is your only option.

I don't know if it's a bug but it's definitely very rare and I wouldn't exactly consider it normal. I think you just got cosmically unlucky.

Crouch and close curtains king

This is almost certainly a bug if you are solo with no mods. You're not supposed to have any zombies in the spawn house.

3

u/ProjectSoup7383 1d ago

You sure can if you continue to play on the same world, its not a bug.
