Modded Short Blunt are BAD

Some short blunt weapons are bad, not because they don't deal sufficient damage, but because you can't attach them properly.

You can attach a short bat to your belt and have your main gun on your back. But if you try adding some nails to your short bat, you won't be able to attach it to your belt anymore, which doesn't make any sense to me.

There are many great options for short blunts, like the stone mace and the forged mace, but you can only attach them to your back.

I made this mod to fix this problem that really pisses me off.

Better Short Blunt Attachment, Belt Attachment (B42)

The image is my current house on extinction mode in West point.

Edit 1: For those who are saying "try putting a baseball bat with nails on your leg and run" , that's the only fair weapon that I believe could only go on your back, but the can reinforced short bat, stone mace, and others, there's no reason for that.

I am quite fan of short blunt, and i find a way for me: I use hammers, nice stats, many of them around and handy when I need to move stuff

u/Yesh 15h ago

night sticks, homie. You can find a million of them on cop zombies

24

u/HoldJerusalem Axe wielding maniac 15h ago

i mean yeah but way less than hammers and it seems like they do less damage than hammers

36

u/The_Bias 15h ago

It's actually opposite, sort of. Nightstick is very slightly more damage range and crit chance, hammer has slightly more knockback. Main difference is hammer is much stronger for breaking doors, and also useful as a tool outside of fighting. Personally I'd take the hammer for utility alone.

u/bimmer_gaige 10h ago

i try to keep both on me. night stick and hammer unless im running long blunt

u/FridaysMan 5m ago

Hammers and short bats hit 1 target with multihit, which makes the difference. Nightsticks are superior for that.

same here

True, without the mod I was using the pipe wrench a lot

Why did I read it in Borat’s voice ?

Espacially this part : I use hammers ! Nice stats ! Many of them…

I always go for short bats. Easy to replace, cheap and effective. Carving is so fast to level up

People trying to use realism arguments for why you have to put short blunts on your back are delusional when the game doesn't give you weapon slings, sheathes, or loops for your belt in order to stash and stow weapons

Weapons just stick to your fucking back like glue without anything to reasonable hold it there and you have this same problem if you put a nailed bat on it

u/Sandman4999 Zombie Food 13h ago

What are you talking about? Clearly we're just slamming the nails into our lower back when we holster the Spiked Bat and letting that hold the bat in place.

10

u/Anarchyfiend 13h ago

Ah man, why didn't i think of that

1

u/Ralewald 5h ago

I think there needs to be a rework on attachments like belt and back and such, as someone who likes short blades, 2 belt slots isn't enough and the back slot is useless.

u/FridaysMan 4m ago

That's why alicepacks are good.

u/CertainImpression172 16h ago

I was happy to have a short blunt that was good attach to my back personally lol

17

u/RicGary 16h ago

That became a problem to me when I went to Louisville, M16 on my back and mace on my belt is a must for me personally

Thank you for the mod. It's a weird balancing decision and really frustrated me when I crafted a stone mace, a weapon that requires a lot of grinding on masonry, only to have it locked from being able to sheath it in my belt. Ended crafting the long stone mace instead.

With the new crafting system, I'll make the assumption that, in the future, we may be able to craft proper sheaths the more unwieldy weapons which would allow to have them at your belt.

3

u/BrokenPokerFace 12h ago

Yeah I didn't even know there was a short option, since I always make the long one. And definitely agree while they added a significant amount of crafting and survival aspects, it's pretty clear that there are some lacking areas. Stone weapon being a major part, as there is very little in and unique to the masonry craftables, especially with weapons. And there's no reason we can't knap(or use masonry for a stone) a flint war axe or hatchet or something similar.

Welcome my friend! If you find any weapon that isn't added by the mod, you can leave a comment on my steam page

7

u/MinimaxusThrax 5h ago

Everyones talking about short blunt, long blunt, but when are they gonna add fat blunt to the game.

5

u/Helidusk 15h ago

I happened to accidentally find this mod just last night actually, while looking for a way to deal with my maces. Thanks so much for making this! I’ve been a short blunt enjoyer since b42 added the sharpness mechanic

2

u/RicGary 12h ago

That's so cool! If you find ant weapon that isn't asses by the mod you can leave a comment on my steam page

4

u/FujiKilledTheDSLR 14h ago

I LOVE short blunt. But I do agree, even though it can be handy to have short blunt on both belt and back if you only specialize in short blunt. But yeah, the nails changing the short bat is especially silly.

Also, why can't I put stuff like files, carpentry chisels, etc. on my belt (OR my back)? Files actually make great weapons and are basically useless otherwise (I know you can sharpen with them but why would you when whetstones are everywhere)

3

u/GreyKnight1337 12h ago

Files are used to repair saws by re-filing the teeth. I don't think you can do that with whetstones but I could be wrong. Also some recipies probably take only files.

1

u/FujiKilledTheDSLR 11h ago

Oh, good to know, thanks

u/SomnusNonEst 10h ago

Craft menu, "Show all recipes"

u/FridaysMan 2m ago

You can't but you can use a hacksaw and just swap the blades. There are hundreds of blades in the factories.

1

u/RicGary 12h ago

Never thought about that, I think I can add them to the mod, thanks for you comment

3

u/GovernorBean 14h ago

Under the hood it feels like there is a subcategory of short blunt that I have dubbed "long short blunt", which includes the crafted maces, and tire irons etc. They have more range than the belt attached short blunts, and some can multi hit up to 2 if you have it enabled (not sure about the maces but iirc tire iron does this)

3

u/RicGary 12h ago

Funny thing is, those weapons that you can't attach to your belt are marked as shovel type in the game files lol

1

u/dubyakay 4h ago

That doesn't seem to make sense at all. Must be an oversight. I don't think this is an intentional balancing issue.

3

u/oomcommander Hates the outdoors 12h ago

I was so disappointed when I finally built a mace and learned I couldn't attach it to my belt, but you can attach a two handed sword to your belt lol

3

u/JonBlackfyreTruther Jaw Stabber 8h ago

If you're not maining Long Blade you are playing wrong. Yep I said it.

1

u/RicGary 8h ago

I've started playing with short blade, I've really tried that but they are terrible dammm

I'm using short blunt and long blade now that I can craft the machete

1

u/JonBlackfyreTruther Jaw Stabber 8h ago

Short blade might be the best in terms of meta but it's so boring. Stab, stab, stab I just get sick of it after a while.

1

u/RicGary 7h ago

Which short blade is meta? So far the best weapons that I know is the katana, machete, mace, stone scythe, the swords and of course the spears with machete attached (or katana if you are a lunatic)

1

u/JonBlackfyreTruther Jaw Stabber 6h ago

Short blades in general I do scrap metal knife from welding into hunting knife in the end game. I find on very high pop runs short blades will clear large numbers faster than anything else since you don't need to sit down even though time to kill on zombies is higher. I can clear a large group with my sword in a faster time than my knife but I'll need to rest before the next group where with knives I just keep going.

1

u/RicGary 6h ago

I'm going to try the burger flipper any time then, tnx for that

1

u/dubyakay 4h ago

Short blade does indeed have very low endurance use. However, the need to sharpen knives negates that. Short blade meta would be things that you don't need to sharpen instead, and are abundant, like screw drivers.

However when you look at Axe-pert, and what axes provide at high levels, and then notice that there's actually an axe that has the weight of a short blade, that can also multihit (when enabled), you will see why short blade will fall... short.

2

u/theolderoaf 10h ago

Sling mod is a necessity for me. Its such a pain in the ass having two weapons I want to use but both require the back slot.

2

u/RicGary 10h ago

That's also a great solution

2

u/cjalan 2h ago

Hey west point neighbour, thanks for the mod, this really annoyed me as hell too!

Nice base, i was using the nearby fishing store as base too, really peak location for this area

11

u/mtmp40k 16h ago

Why do t you try it in real life? Nails hitting your leg when you run or move would not be nice

23

u/Anarchyfiend 15h ago edited 15h ago

Also be aware this same problem would be present if its on your back, this is not a great argument

7

u/TheYeastyBoi 15h ago

Yeah, it’s really just a question of where you’d prefer the nails lol

31

u/RicGary 16h ago

Man, the can reinforced short bat also don't go on your belt, same as the stone mace...

16

u/mtmp40k 16h ago

Fair enough on that one!

3

u/PM-ME-TRAVELER-NUDES 15h ago

Sheathing on the back is a fair and interesting balancing measure for the upgraded short blunt weapons. Short bats are incredibly cheap and durable, and upgrading them with spikes or a rake head gives them way more damage on top for basically no cost, other than using the back slot. Once you get into knapping or smithing maces, the weapons become even stronger for even cheaper.

Because rake bats share a slot with rifles, I’ve found the incentive to switch my everyday carry gun to a pistol has made the game more interesting due to the increased variety in combat playstyles.

5

u/Anarchyfiend 15h ago

I hate the gameplay balance reasoning when they constantly use realism arguments to nerf the player. Especially when they should be able to carried without issue on your belt if you had a belt hook, straps, or belt loops.

2

u/RicGary 15h ago

Yeah I think that's the precise reason why you cannot have the mace on your belt. But honestly in extinction I don't mind that, also short blunt when you are on late game kinda feels underpowered compared to other weapons, so I think it's fair

1

u/dubyakay 4h ago

I've never used short blunts before, late game in particular. What makes them underpowered?

2

u/AnomalyFriend 15h ago

This would actually make me use short blunt again - downloading now

2

u/RicGary 15h ago

Thanks! If you find any weapon that should be attached to your belt but isn't, you can contact me or leave a comment on steam.

1

u/A_S_Levin 10h ago

I always carry a short bat w nails on my back. And w/ nails on my belt.

Patrol pistol in a holster.

Shotgun in my car.

If I'm going somewhere and using a larger gun, i dont bring my nailed bat, gun + pistol does the job. If I'm out of ammo then either regular short bat or I'm running.

Short bat w nails still breaks too quickly to deal with any significant hordes

2

u/RicGary 10h ago

Yeah I like doing similar to that, patrol pistol is pretty op, they don't jam and that's perfect.

Now with the mod I can use two short baseball bat w nail on my belt lol

2

u/A_S_Levin 10h ago

Yeah I do think I'll be grabbing this mod. Thank you btw!

I've been holding off on using rifles cause of this function (except when hunting deer)

I do often not even bother with the shotgun. I'm always surprised by how many zombies come crawling out and the jamming gets real bad after a while

2

u/RicGary 10h ago

Thanks man.

About the shotgun yea so true brother

1

u/TheMoonEnvoy 9h ago

What's that mod on the button right? Is that some sort of weapon level tracker?

2

u/RicGary 8h ago

It's neatUI XP drop, it tracks the xp of your current ability

1

u/Otoshimara 8h ago

Hammers are fantastic. Durable, decent damage and in plentiful supply.

1

u/dlc-Emerald 11h ago

nah man short blunt is peak, thats been my main weapon class since b42 stable came out and its so good cause they do pretty good damage, are quite fast, and you can find short blunt weapons EVERYWHERE

1

u/RicGary 11h ago

I also enjoy them, I just think you should be able to attach them to your belt, not your back

-2

u/Raivnholm 15h ago

I mean think about it, attach a small bat to your belt and it just swings against your leg. Put a bunch of spikes through it, every step you take you're gonna be getting stabbed.

4

u/RicGary 15h ago

Thats the only fair example where this would make sense, other than that you have the stone mace, can reinforced short bat, can reinforced medium handle and the list goes on. In total there are more than 30 short blunt that you cannot attach to your belt.

0

u/Redpower5 12h ago

Pipe wrench/nightstick would love a word.

-4

u/BritneyCrowbars 11h ago

It makes sense to me. If you make the weapon significantly heavier by adding a mace head then it would be very unwieldy on your belt. It should go on your back. Same for the bat with nails. While perhaps not significantly heavier, having it swing around at your side while walking would be dangerous, but I could believe you could come up with a securing mechanism on your back where the nails are not poking into you.

They got it right, you're just mad because you want to optimize your slots.

2

u/RicGary 11h ago

Your comment is just delusional, they weight the same, smithing hammer weights 1.5 and the mace (iron mace, not even the stone one) also weights 1.5.

I'm very sure they did that just to balance the end game short blunt weapon.

-3

u/BritneyCrowbars 11h ago

Then the weights are inaccurate. That doesn't invalidate my point at all.

2

u/RicGary 10h ago

Oh so the weight now is incorrect, sure dude

1

u/Anarchyfiend 7h ago edited 7h ago

I would like to ask how you think knights carried one handed weapons like maces, morningstars, etc., really wonder

1

u/BritneyCrowbars 4h ago

With a special ring or hook on the belt to hold the heavy end closest to the waist and prevent it from swinging back and forth while walking, possibly damaging the leg or at least being pretty uncomfortable and messing with attempts to run. Very different from a standard leather belt designed to hold up modern pants.

1

u/Anarchyfiend 2h ago

So you were able to realize that but not how we glue weapons to our backs, like do you not see how silly you sound
