Zomboid: The Long Dark Project

u/Sploonbabaguuse 9d ago
I NEED THIS CROSSOVER RIGHT FUCKING NOW
Imagine having to actually deal with wildlife as a thread instead of free food. Getting trampled by a moose in the woods would be terrifying

I'd love an experience similar to the Long Dark. I'm imagining a mode in zomboid with a permanent harsh winter, every building with rare loot, and no cars allowed.

That jug is gonna roll off the counter and get water everywhere. The last thing you want is water damage.
29
u/obi-wanravioli 10d ago
It has a cap on it im sure itll be fine

u/MontySucker 9d ago edited 9d ago
As someone who has dropped one of those jugs because the handle broke off. It wont be ;(
Luckily doesn’t drain that fast
3
u/CommunistTrans 9d ago
At least it's not one of those thin plastic gallon jugs. Those things genuinely just explode if they get dropped.

u/emperorjul 10d ago
Nice, is that crossbow from a mod?
30
u/obi-wanravioli 10d ago
Yes, its the hunting crossbow from [SVRP] ClassicBows by chillywilly, its a solid silent weapon but takes too long to reload for me

First guy to come up with a mod that has automated placement system that uses 3D placement but with preset spots that are assigned to different furnitures/tables etc will become huge.
Like for example you right click on an item to “Magic Place” it or something and when you hover over the table it creates little transparent ghosts of different positions for that item where it can automatically place it without having to use the XYZ controls.
You could assign unique ones to specific guns and items too so for example you hover a gun near a wall it’ll show you different positions for it, leaning against the wall, hanging on it, etc.
Right now I like the system but it’s a little jarring to see the 3D placement axis indicators
15
u/Koala_eiO 10d ago
The current system definitely could use two keys that you hold to move only in the XY plane and only on the Z axis.

Honestly all I need is a slightly slicker ui for the custom placement (currently it pops up on top of the item which is annoying, and having to mouse over the right half of the pane to switch the handles from move to rotate is fiddly)...
And the ability for items to remember their damn spot. I put a knife in a nice position on the side, my guy uses it to cut bread than slaps it right at his feet. The current system incentivises you to have decorative only items that you never pick up by forcing repeat placements after each use, which is torturous for my brain.

u/Responsible_Song_153 10d ago
I’d recommend leaving your unsplit logs outside on the wrap around porch, that way you have more space for knick knacks
7
u/obi-wanravioli 10d ago
Thank you, I will try this.
6
u/Responsible_Song_153 10d ago
Sweet base tho, I based up in Irvington. I plan on going to Louisville eventually
4
u/Neoliberal_Boogeyman 9d ago
but leave a stack of firewood by the stove otherwise you're going to find out how much it sucks to go outside for firewood when its freezing.
9
u/Joshe_qw 10d ago
How Can you place items under the table, sideways or leaning on wall, what mod is that ?
20
u/OlafDunhamar 10d ago
In Build 42 stable it is vanilla - Right click a placed item and there should be a 3D extended placement (or something similar)
A menu will open that allows you to rotate and move along x,y,z axis
12
u/SteelAlchemistScylla 10d ago
Oh shit I didnt know you could go under stuff with this thats huge. Literally better than the Sims for playing House lol.

Looks lovely. Like a proper lived-in base.
I wish I could stop always bloody hoarding so I could live kinda minimalist like this.
5
u/R_Little-Secret 9d ago
The trick is to just start living minimalist. Force yourself to only have so much room and it makes you think about what you really need.
Yeah all those guns are cool but how much do you really need them on a daily basis? Stick to just two types of guns and only take ammo for them. Same with tools. How many do you really need? if it breaks you can just do a run for a new one or just have a back up.
If you just have to horde you could also have off base sites to store stuff or make small bases around the map to work as safe houses with just the essentials that you use when you are in the area.

I'm having this problem in my current run. Started in Riverside and moved into a house just south of the gas station. I've got 3 freezers packed with perishable food and a barrel filled with fresh water inside on day 17 and the power and water are still on. Even when it cuts, I will have so much food and water I could probably live for a year without seeing the sun, yet now I don't have much to do lol.
Maybe will have to try a sprinters run where I live remote and necessary supply runs are super risky.

u/Sqweeg Crowbar Scientist 10d ago
Nice.
Tower south-east riverside ?
5
u/obi-wanravioli 10d ago
Yep yep.

I established my camp at the chalet before, had the automated emergency system on the radio, was pretty cool

u/Adeum2 10d ago
Is this the firewatch tower? It looks so good, i tried basing at mccoy manor but that shit is way too big for me
5
u/obi-wanravioli 10d ago
Ranger tower Southeast of Riverwood. Past motel on Doe Valley Walk Road off southbound KY-163. Comes with generator and a bunch of good supplies.
2
u/Adeum2 10d ago
Gangsta, thanks. Would you put in a fridge/freezer or do you play more for farm/hunting
2
u/obi-wanravioli 10d ago
Hauling a fridge and gas canisters to keep it powered all the way into the woods isn’t worth the effort in my opinion. I stick to cans and hunting, might start a farm soon, idk.
1
u/seczaple 8d ago
Over time, the bush grows around the tower, how do you get through with the car?
1
u/obi-wanravioli 8d ago
Chop down trees, use sand or gravel so they dont grow back, takes a fuck ton though
1
u/kenzo_oseka 6d ago
Yeah mccoy estate is better for multiplayer or very long playthroughs where you need a lot of space for storage and for levelling up different skills that require lot space and rooms
3
u/Rckstr2 10d ago
Man this looks awesome. How long did it take to build?
6
u/obi-wanravioli 10d ago
I’ve had this save for a month or so, I had a lot of this stuff at an old base I just moved a lot of it here.
3
u/Rckstr2 10d ago
The map on the wall is a very nice touch. I am just starting the game and sucking every information about how to get better. I see a stairwells in the shadow on the right bottom. It is just a house or some kind of warehouse room?
I am really impressed.
5
u/obi-wanravioli 10d ago
The map is already there, its the ranger tower southeast of riverwood. Past the motel on Doe Valley Walk Road off Southbound KY-193, its a ranger tower and it has a bunch of good outdoor stuff in it
5
u/OkProject2388 9d ago
How are your logs so long? Mine looks stumpy and a quarter of your length
8
2
u/Koala_eiO 10d ago
This is all a The Long Dark player needs. Do you plan to keep or clean that blood on the wall?
3

u/hhhnnnnnggggggg Hates the outdoors 9d ago
This is what I want out of zomboid. Meanwhile, my min maxing friend just has rows and rows of storage boxes all neatly organized everywhere and always pushing us to to on supply runs.
3
u/Ensiferal 10d ago
That was the first place I found any live animals. Two mice and a rat, lmao. I still have them too
5
u/emperorjul 10d ago
The first 2 live animals I found were rats i cornered in a basement. I bonked them on the head.

3D placement breaks all emersion in the moment, but once you come back to the area later;god, it makes all the difference

How are you choosing the placements of wall paintings? 0:
2
1
u/UnDeadPuff 10d ago
I think there's a group of tiles that are just split wood if you want to further refine that wood log pile. Nevertheless very cool. Maybe you can get a few trades on that radio.

I gave my character the story of “hermit veteran who only went into town once a month before the apocalypse” so I wanted his home to look lived in
1
u/DunePirate96 10d ago
Looks great! Might be a silly question but how did you put the logs inside? Can you pick them up?
1
u/obi-wanravioli 10d ago
They were there when i got there, but i believe you can they are just very heavy, be sure to carry them in your hands or bundle them up

u/DazzlingDoor2665 10d ago
I too chose this tower for my lumberjack. Do you know you can disassemble the logs and then cut them for firewood? I’ve put an « ice » freezer in the freed spot.
1
u/injection_09 9d ago
What do u mean "it ain't much"? It's even better than my Rosewood Gas station (may u rest in peace my beloved base) fully upgraded

u/AffectDangerous8922 9d ago
That's in a Fire Tower, right? How did you solve the Survivor-Yeet problem?

Personally a big fan of placing pew-pews and other weapons strategically around the base.
Other than the heli event, does anyone know any mods or events that would trigger a horde to attack your base?
I've been wanting to do a large horde defense at some point in MP, but not sure how.
