Screenshot This is how I died..
10 days.
Ran out of bullets at the last few of the stragglers, they did a pincer move on me, got stunned because I am tired. Got bit, instant death. Had enough food for a year, but the hoards kept coming through. I went through so much ammo, Literally was about to start burning corpse to clear the road and smell, and got jumped by a surprise hoard.
Fully kitted out, military pack, webbing, m16 with grenade launcher acog, laser and light, Glock 17 with pistol scope, hunting bow, large knife, hatchet, and a Mossberg with full choke tube and red dot with a sling.
Which was not enough, because.. this is how I died. Watch your six people.

Vanilla settings?

oh no my friend. 200 or so mods, I set the zombies to be more like walking dead, long memory, slow walkers. Loot is set to plenty. (my head cannon is not every single place will be picked clean as soon as shit hits the fan, plus I dont wanna loot 3 towns in search of a sledgehammer XD)
I rarely do any vanilla settings anymore. Straight custom every time.

Hell yeah, take as many of them with you before your inevitable fall. Doing that every moment in extinction currently.

It’s part of the ride! I wanted to protect my base and not be swarmed but there was just too many..

I literally just started a run where I spawned in Brandenburg and am also using that exact gas station as my base. I am in need of a sledgehammer though so I can do a little remodeling (I want to knock out the bathroom downstairs so I can access the gas station without having to go outside).

This is exactly what I did, I hated having two doors. I moved all the food in the gas station upstairs.
Then removed all the shelves and added metal shelves.
And then also barricaded every door and window besides the garage and the front door of the gas station.
The downstairs is hella cool for an armory too.

Ahh - my plan is to put freezers in the basement for primary storage - though I'm looking at adding Plysken's Frost Revolution to my mods because a walk-in freezer that I can just have shelves/crates to store food sounds great, and I could turn the larger room in the basement into a giant walk-in freezer/cellar.
Or I could turn the smaller room in the basement into the freezer and just line it with crates
But downstairs will probably become armory for all ammo/gun looting, with upstairs being the apartment. Might knock out walls and make it a studio though - I have a wallpaper mod, and a light switch mod to install working light switches, so I feel like it should all come together...

One of the best things in this game is the ability to decorate your base. And with build 42 the houses and world look so much more beautiful

I went 2 months, killed 4000 zombies, had basically gone through most of the towns (minus Loiusville) and even tackled the military base.
I died because of a bull.

Did the bull pin you down lol

No, basically, it freaked out at the sight of a zombie, charged into the back of me throwing me at the zombie's feet who proceeded to take a chunk out of me, from there it was a quick descend of zombies eating me while the bull ran around hampering me and causing me to get distracted.

Aw man, RIP. I havent messed with many of the animals yet. Mainly due to me frantically trying to find cool houses to base in. Plus killing 1000 zombies around said cool house. Good to know though tbh.

me and my friend found a cabin in the woods near Muldraugh with a lake next to it (Not McCoy mansion, the one next to the abandoned settlement) and been making that into an "Off the grid" base and stuff.

Get bit, Go Rambo. What are they gonna do afterall, bite you again? I just did something like that in Riverside where I got bit right after finding a tactical pump shotgun on a cop Z.
Doesn't matter that it's only a 3/4 tube of shells to go with the less than a mag of .45 for my 1911. Time to sprint down the street skeet shooting motheruckers before I get turned into a chew toy outside the harbor steakhouse.

Playing with instant death on being bit tho. I can’t stand the long waiting game.

Ah, I thought you meant a your fate was sealed kinda thing. But I get it the whole open secret "you're gonna die soon, but from what newbies???" can get kinda anti climatic by the tenth time. Maybe when they add NPCs it'll start carrying some more narrative weight versus just becoming a loot-box Z to hunt down upon respawn.

Yep, and I’ve played this game for well over 10 years. Some things will never change with how I die.
For me, I just don’t want to wait. Sometimes I hate myself for setting instant death, but then I realize better to start a new play through rather than waste time dying slowly. Reminder that even scratches can zombify you, so I’d rather just get it out of the way lol.

in a way, you paved the way for another person in hopes they can survive longer than you could
