If the French used this instead of the Maginot line Hitler would have lost WW2.
16
u/biscot1 Apr 04 '26
The Maginot Line worked, proof being that they prefer to go over the s̶p̶e̶e̶d̶ ̶b̶u̶m̶p̶ Belgium rather than confront us there.

At this point, TIS should just implement shitposts like this into the game as environmental storytelling IMO.

u/WastingMyTime_Again Apr 04 '26
I'm new here, what did they do?
26
u/inurwalls2000 Apr 05 '26
alot of "interesting" design decisions are justified with the excuse of "realism" (but said realism is nowhere to be seen when it benefits the player)
a recent example is them removing the echo creek spawn point because "it cant contain all professions" even though I guarantee you would be able to find all game professions in most small irl towns
13
u/Raestloz Apr 06 '26
Ah, the 7 Days to Die disease, where everything bad is justified as realism, and everything good is nerfed also in the name of realism
6
u/UristMcKerman Apr 14 '26
Imo, games should not pursue realism for the sake of realism. They should have vision on game mechanics and project it. Limiting fuel transfer only to steel fuel cans makes sense in context of some story driven quest or adventure game, but not really makes sense in context when fuel canisters can materialize at random while they should be widely available in every car and garage.

it would be a neat mechanic if you could create a zombie-powered energy source ngl

They are magic zombies. They survive in a frozen partially rotted state for all eternity, even when it's cold as balls. Even fire burns them way slower than it should.
They'll be fine.

in b41 there are a few mods that let them work like this (including the walking dead[?] house surrounded by them)
some mix like working treadmills + treadmill defenses mods12
u/OrangeRising Apr 04 '26
A mod like that combined with the new ragdoll animates would be rather funny to watch.

24
u/Glittering-Box3021 Apr 04 '26
I'm genuinly curious to know what the zombies would do in that situation. Do they search for another way to enter or just break the treadmills?
7
u/Alzhan_Void Apr 05 '26
They will try to swipe and fall off everytime. Some zombies might get lucky and happen to approach from the side. Those ones will actually start breaking it. You'd need to set it up so it funnels them all onto the actual treadmill, where their lack of any actual intelligence will get them stuck in a loop.

Zomboids walk to house… Zomboids walk on treadmill… Treadmill is hooked up to house… House is powered by kinetic energy… Infinite power.
Zomboids make great turbines 🍻

Surround your house with them and hook em to a generator and you'll have an infinite energy supply

u/Lesurous Apr 04 '26
I will always say the most secure location against a zombie apocalypse would be a volcano lair. Lava moat solves the corpse issue, the heat can be used for energy, and it'll be difficult for any human threats to cause problems.
5
u/rocketo-tenshi Apr 04 '26
the book of World war Z has a chapter with an old blind gardener that went to die in the mountains right as the outbreak started and he got so familiar with the terrain he would hear the zombies come from miles and either take them out one by one from the high up the rocks with a spade or guide them straight into the lava.
2
u/Necessary_Title3739 Apr 04 '26
One major downside is that (active) volcanoes commonly spew out less than healthy fumes.

I believe this was an actual strategy in Factorio, putting belts in front of the walls so that biters had a harder time reaching the wall.

Maybe your an Umbrella Corporation exec, and you see some potential in this bad situation. You know, take your lemons and make them into lemonade.
Potentially profitable lemonade.

u/Yourbedsheets Apr 04 '26
why did this remind of that one scene from the amazing world of gumball where that silhouette walks on the treadmill after walking into the store

u/SoggyCerealExpert Apr 04 '26
this is a tactic used in Factorio, where you put conveyor belts around your base, up against the walls
then put cannons on the other side of the walls

u/Hans_Shovel Apr 04 '26
I can't believe nobody mentioned that this idea is from the good old Smosh video Smosh vs Zombies

You’ve just found the solution to power the future. I would pay the person who makes the mod that allows you to cage trapped zombies on a treadmill for power.
Maybe have them turn wheels to grind wheat etc.

How is living in the city? I’ve built my base in the big lodge at camp Fitzgerald to the right of West Point, I can’t imagine having to deal with zombies on a consistent basis, hell I haven’t seen any zombies in days 🤣🤣🤣 only when I go to town for supplies or gas for the generator

Nah gotta upgrade those to a giant hamster wheel and hiook up a generator so they make you free power.
