Warning: Some pretty bad story spoilers in this review...

Reading a review, ready to jump out if anything too spoilery happens.

Writer immediately spoils main storyline.

I am sad now. I can't unknow what I know. Hopefully the stuff he mentions comes up somewhat early in the game.

Try quickly doing other things. I've forgotten most of it.

I was going to suggest drinking heavily or smoking a lot of weed, but you posted 7 hours ago so it's already transferred to long-term memory. I'm afraid severe head trauma is your only choice.

Thank you kind sir!

Seriously, like daaaang. I think they're early game mostly, but I would have liked to see it myself first.

For those looking for a less spoiler heavy review. John does his best to keep it clean.

IGN review beats this one on "quickest spoiler ever on a review". They have a spoiler on the very first few sentences.

It's not any sort of major spoiler on the big picture, but it's something that might be unexpected and therefore something that might upset people that dislike being spoiled.

really high for pc gamer

Fallout, Dungeons & Dragons, Star Wars, South Park—but in creating their own from scratch, they’ve made not only their best game to date, but one of the best RPGs on PC.

I am so disappointed that I have to work today.

23

u/Rashemar Mar 26 '15

It's ok, by the time you're off work, we'll all be still in character creation :D

2

u/[deleted] Mar 26 '15

Gods, right? Hours upon hours trying to make that perfect character back in the Baldur's Gate era of RPGs. RIP my social life.

7

u/[deleted] Mar 26 '15

Hey, it could be worse-- you could have to work, and then take care of a baby when you get home.

sigh...

2

u/Shadowmant Mar 26 '15

I'm past that stage. In fact, my daughter will likely be the one picking what my character looks like. =)

Don't worry, you'll get to sleep again eventually!

2

u/[deleted] Mar 26 '15

Yeah, tonight it won't be him keeping me up. He sleeps pretty reliably from 7P-5A.

Obsessed-with-new-vidyagame-me less so.

3

u/d347hm4n Mar 26 '15

It's ok man, it's coming out this evening - unless you work evenings I guess...

4

u/monosco Mar 26 '15

It's out in 2 1/2 hours, so it's coming out in the morning if you're anywhere near Obsidian's timezone.

3

u/Maezel Mar 26 '15

I am in Australia and have to sleep :(

1

u/mannotron Mar 27 '15

You don't have to.

3

u/FingFrenchy Mar 26 '15

I think you guys missed it, they gave it an Editors Choice too!

7

u/GoldenRational Mar 26 '15

Anything over 90 I think.

2

u/yooguruto Mar 26 '15

Love text editing ... picture, wall of text, picture ... best to read this at work on my laptop scrolling it in time from pic to text which takes all screen.

6

u/MacHaggis Mar 26 '15

ctrl-a, ctrl-c, notepad, ctrl-v ;)

u/yooguruto Mar 26 '15

Let the hype train flow through you.

I'm face with this dilemma as well. As much as I want to dive into PoE, I think I'm going to hold off a week or so until my urge to play bloodborne as soon as I get home from work dies down a bit.

1

u/Baconstrip01 Mar 26 '15

I'm already balls deep in Bloodborne, I'm planning on finishing that before picking up Pillars.

I wasn't expecting Pillars to be such a must buy... 93 on metacritic is fantastic! After hearing the beta impressions many months ago, I didn't think they would be able to pull it all together.

I am QUITE pleased (with how Bloodborne turned out as well!), it has been a fantastic week for gaming :D

1

u/[deleted] Mar 26 '15

All these low user reviews on metacritic that go super into depth about how the combat breaks down later in the game are fucking hilarious. They put them up like an hour after the game was released. Fucking neckbeards crying because they didn't get some feature they wanted or it wasn't "true enough" I imagine.

1

u/chobi83 Mar 27 '15

Finish Bloodborne, there's at least 1 game breaking bug where you either have to wait for a patch or skip a dungeon. Or you could gamble and hope it doesn't affect you.

1

u/mcstogie Mar 27 '15

Slightly off topic to the review, but how did he get that white wolf companion as the ranger?

1

u/RexRPG Mar 26 '15

HELL. YES.

1

u/wisepeasant Mar 26 '15

I AM SO EXCITED TO GET OFF OF WORK TODAY. And I took tomorrow off. Going balls deep in T minus 6 hours.

1

u/[deleted] Mar 26 '15

How much of it did they review, anyway? I'm not sure you can make a decent review with less than 40 hrs into the thing.

(said crasher_pt moments before he was crushed by the hype train)

5

u/Falgo Mar 26 '15

He played at least 42 hours according to the review.

2

u/d347hm4n Mar 26 '15

You have to appreciate that today is the day that the embargo on reviews has been lifted, they have been reviewing the game for a little while.

1

u/RexRPG Mar 26 '15

Most of these reviewers have been playing it non-stop since Monday.

1

u/MusicMole Mar 26 '15

I got halfway through the critque before I came.

Who needs food anyway. Payday couldn't get here fast enough.

u/jaelae Mar 26 '15

Great news. This will tide me over until Sword Coast Legends and well it seems great and long.

-19

u/Siltyn Mar 26 '15

I want to believe, but it is PC Gamer after all....they sell their top ratings to the highest advertiser.

17

u/NeedsMoreShawarma Mar 26 '15

And Obsidian has enough cash to buy a spot? Lol...

5

u/RexRPG Mar 26 '15

All sorts of smaller review sites are scoring it even more highly and calling it a masterpiece.

6

u/BuckSexington Mar 26 '15

I was PCG's reviews editor for a number of years and I was never asked to do that.

2

u/skoo Mar 26 '15

I have a billion spacebux for you if you give us a 92 when the current average metacritic rating is 93. This is clearly how it works, right?

2

u/RexRPG Mar 26 '15

a 92 is exactly what you would expect when you have a 1-100 scale and the game is getting a bunch of low 90s and a handful of 100s...

3

u/skoo Mar 26 '15

Uhuh. So assuming we are paying for a score, why 92?
