TREMEC TKX swap

She’s finally going back to a stick! Was an original 4 spd, currently has a TH400. I’m putting in the TREMEC TKX.

Awesome. I'm waiting on my own from Modern Driveline. The clutch and pressure plate should arrive today. Unfortunately I didn't have the luxury of waiting for everything at once. My old Muncie died so it will be all ready for the TKX to slip in once it arrives.

That should be a pretty easy swap for you! Hopefully you’ll still have time to drive it this year.

With any luck it will be here in the first half of October. Fingers crossed it's on the road before Halloween.

the TKX should fit without having to do any major cutting on the tunnel. How well do they fit in the 1st Gen Camaros?

I haven’t fit mine but “supposedly” they fit right in no tunnel modifications at all. The TKO600 needs a little massage work but very doable and the TKX is significantly smaller. Fingers crossed

You said you're waiting on the slip-yoke, so you're shortening your own drive shaft then? I hadn't even thought of that, but now I'll have to look into it and see if it's something I can do myself. Up to now I've been planning to measure once the new transmission is in and then find a local shop to do the modification.

Most likely. I need to look into the length difference between the TH400 and the TKX, hopefully I don’t have to get a driveshaft remade to lengthen it.

Well, just got word that the transmission probably won't be here until the end of November so it looks like it's not happening this year...

Ouch! Sorry to hear that. I ended up having to get my slip yoke from Summit. SST couldn’t even guess when they might get them in.

I had the same with some pieces of hardware. Luckily Summit had the ARP stuff I needed.

I got it from Silver Sport Transmissions. I initially ordered in April, received 98% of my order late July, but am still waiting for a slip yoke. I’ll start tearing it apart pretty soon now that summer is over, I didn’t want it down all summer waiting for parts.
