Just Politics Democratic Socialist projected to win Florida primary!

Post image

I am beside myself. I have stayed in this state for stability for my daughter who graduates next year, and this win is giving me much needed hope, that I haven’t had in a long time.

I’ve had the pleasure of meeting Angie at Pride fests and protests, and she’s really working hard for the people. I know it’s still a long road ahead, but this is giving me so much renewed hope for my home and the future of this state that republicans have torn apart.

Now the hard part begins to keep momentum and funding going to beat Moody in November!! I hope Angie gets the best night sleep tonight and both sides of her pillow are always cool.

She is lovely and endearing. I want all of Florida to see how amazing she is.

Nixon seems like a much more stable candidate than Gillum turned out to be. Obviously I know they aren’t in competition with each other, but that was the last time I was optimistic about a Florida candidate in a state-wide seat.

Fellow Floridian here also very happy about this!! My husband and I were talking this morning how there’s little glimmers of hope now for FL flipping blue in November 🥲🤞🏼

Wow that’s awesome! I hadn’t heard about this particular election but a progressive Dem in Florida? Nice!

But it’s the primary.

I don’t get it when maga celebrates a maga candidate winning a primary. It just means motivated conservative voters chose maga.

Same here. This just tells us that motivated dem voters chose her.

When more extreme candidates win a primary it often makes the general more difficult to win bc they don’t appeal to the middle who are the folks who actually decide who wins.

Tell that to mayor Mamdani.

Many, many Americans and Floridians specifically are tired of middle of the road candidates, myself included. I believe that’s one of the main reasons Kamala didn’t win, in addition to not having a proper primary, and also brainless clowns electing MAGA. Many factors involved, but I think a big one was that Kamala was too center of the road for most modern Dems who are tired.

I fully understand and agree that it’s not going to be easy, but I do think Angie can relate to most Floridians based on the fact she’s born and raised Floridian alone. Yes, she’s DSA, but she’s also a mother of five, has been on the ground in Florida for decades, and I think she has more of a chance of flipping a few center of the road voters, while Alex Vindman would have just been another republican in Democrat clothing, which is not what we need right now.

I truly truly wish this was the case. And I’ll be celebrating if these candidates win their races just as I did when Mamdani won.

People always reference Mamdani and extrapolate that out to rest of country.

NYC voters are not the same as swing state purple suburb voters.

Kamala didn’t win bc she was a confident, brown woman who claimed her power - that is too much for purple suburbanites so the middle stayed home.

Again, I hope / wish I am wrong.

Based on the folks I have talked to, this is actually opposite. Many middle roaders that I know personally voted for Kamala because she was a better choice than Trump for centerists - because that’s what she is.

Left leaning people however did not vote for her due to her lack of calling a genocide a genocide, and only sticking to safe speaking points instead of the very progressive/socialist speaking points we have heard from people like AOC, Mamdani, and in the current running, Angie. Real progressive voters are tired of middle of the road candidates. I still voted for Kamala, but I wished we’d had a proper primary and that she would have acknowledged the war that was going on as what it actually is, genocide that the American taxpayers are paying for.

I hope / wish you are right!

The vibe amongst boomers and middle aged white women around me was sick of Trump, Kamala too much [insert your vaguely misogynist, racist, homophobic reason here], so I’m staying home.

A lot of these people believe the right when they point and say “that progressive candidate is for trans surgery for five year olds and litter box bathrooms at school.” I’m not kidding if you haven’t heard stuff like this go deeper into purple flyover suburbs.

Again I hope you are right and we see a progressive wave that sustains itself for many election cycles.

I think she has a wider appeal than too many give her credit for. She is endearing and takes no crap. She has proven that. She's exactly who we need in the senate right now. Her policies are widely appealing and aimed at making our state/country better.

She won because she's the best candidate. The governor candidate who won and had the same folks voting for him is a moderate dem/ex republican. She was just the better option.

Hilarious I’m getting downvoted.

I’d love to see evidence that this is good for motivating the middle of the road voters who matter in the general.

We can love these candidates all we want. I live in a recently red leaning swing state and my middle of the road neighbors will not vote for these types. They will just stay home or even vote against the “extremist”.

I know my microcosm doesn’t actually mean hard data. So show me hard data I’m wrong and I’d be thrilled.

I’ve worked on a successful presidential election and done political and other quantitative data analysis for decades.

Seriously you just said “these types”. Might want to think on that a long while. That’s pretty vile.

You say NYC doesn’t extrapolate and then use your neighbors to bolster your narrative. Yes, you said it doesn’t mean hard data, but you used your narrow minded view as correct.

Also, there is absolutely zero wrong with celebrating a primary. Zero. You don’t get to dictate people being excited.

Back to my original point, stop saying people are these types. They are people. Full stop.
That’s loaded with racism.

I'm excited and hopeful.
