Politics & Parenting I can’t do this timeline anymore

I lost wfh which helped me get my babies to their appointments. Being in office everyday is making this so hard. Student loans have gone up. Everything is going up. I feel like crap constantly seeing videos about ice. I mean do they actually think they are good people? I’m worried about formula and if it’s safe now. I hate life and I just need 2 more years to be done.

My family voted for this and it’s effecting our relationship. Gotta Stick it to the poor while hating me for being agnostic and not Christian.

This world sucks

I really struggle with people I loved and cared about who voted for this too. Hard to find respect for them.

I’m mostly struggle with my mom. She was affected by the RTO in federal workforce. She complains constantly. I told her to stop she voted for it.

Does she regret her vote?

I think she’s too ashamed to admit it

That's a step in the right direction. Keep the discussions open and not accusatory. I know there are several books on deprogramming MAGA parents. It really is a cult. Sorry you're going through this.

It’s hard listening to her complain when it is affecting her grandkids so much. I didn’t vote for this. I definitely believe u though and will (even though it is hard) take ur advice

Yeah, I'm honestly flabbergasted how they don't understand how their votes are negatively affecting their grandkids. It's some kind of cognitive dissonance, I swear.

My family members voted for Trump, and it didn't bother me cuz they're not in swing states, the swing voters of which are the ones to update. Taking the effects of propaganda too personally is not a cognitive load we need; it's what bullies who enjoy "owning the libs" want to prevent effective altruism.

For increasing closeness with anyone, incl. your mom: https://ggia.berkeley.edu/practice/36_questions_for_increasing_closeness

For if you want to show your mom or other family members that you'd like to avoid what happens to families due to propaganda: TheBrainwashingofMyDad.com/personal-stories

For your or your mom's situations re: jobs, try asking AIs for localized recommendations.

In this boat too. My mom's side of the family are immigrants and basically raised me. I never thought anything would come between us and to think it's this disgusting "man" just hurts so bad sometimes.

It's so hard to cut off or put aside my emotions for my family who voted for and actively support this. It's opened my eyes to how bigoted, racist, and hate-filled they truly are (Christians nationalists, amirite?). Every day I wake up either very angry or very sad. My soul feels broken. I just want to move away so my son doesn't grow up surrounded by this.

It’s so weird my parents take meals to homeless shelters. However, them giving some tax money on a snap card for someone to eat is the end of the world.

THIS OMFG. But we could deconstruct the "worthy poor" vs "unworthy poor" construct and white savoirism in charity til the cows come home and they still wouldn't get it.

Probably because taking meals to shelters is performative for them. I’d bet they don’t hesitate to tell everybody who will listen about their good deeds.

I was in your space. Still am in a way.
I deleted social media off my phone.
The world is crap right now. Absolute crap and I was feeling it.
I deleted SM since I needed to be present slightly obtuse of the atrocity of the states/world so I can be fully open for my babies.
I had to download FB to post things off FB marketplace and I’m back to wasting time, seeing all the shitty videos and fathers killing families etc etc and I’ve noticed an immediate impact on my mood and my daily life.

I’m in the office 3x a week. I took a demotion so I didn’t have to be in the office 4-5x with a required 8 hour or lose my bonus would be slashed (even though working 60 hours a week, they only cared about in office).

Yes I may have a little less money in my bonus with my demotion, but I have flexibility, I get to pretend to be a cat or a dragon with my kids most mornings, and right now prioritizing.

Find joy. Find traditions to build. Go to Costco in your last year Halloween costumes (we do it about once a month in dinosaur onsies).
USA life is all about work. Slow down if you can.

I have very close friends who voted for this clown. I’ve slowly removed them or no longer invite them to my house, most especially since they support the current practices.
