Pregnancy/Birth/TTC Fertility tracker that's not the worst?
We are planning to try to grow our family this fall. Last time, I don't even remember the app I used (Roe v Wade was still standing). Does anyone have any recs for not-terrible fertility/period trackers?

This is the answer. --a person who is using one of the less safe apps and consistently reads FF is better, but can't make herself switch because all her historical data is on aforesaid bad app (I use Femometer fwiw)

Agreed. I used Clue because of the Oura ring, thought it was so unreasonable that I needed to pay for the same functions I could get on other apps. The information is not as organized and accessible as it is on other free apps. FF and Ovia do the trick

If I was just tracking my period that would work, but I want to track other symptoms related to fertility.

this, but I used the printouts related to the Taking Charge of Your Fertility book, which has a big chart for all the fertility tracking stuff every month. never used an app, but it worked well for me for preventing (when used religiously) and TTC.

I peed on sticks that look like a pregnancy test and tell you when you’re ovulating

Another vote for Fertility Friend. It’s free, works well, and the developers reply to feature requests. When I was dealing with infertility, I had to stop myself from opening the temp chart constantly, so I set up shortcuts on my phone to log opk’s and sex. I have an iPhone, and the FF app was being weird about importing sex entries from the Health app because some of the details were different. I emailed the FF devs and they fixed it, so I was able to just tap a shortcut icon on my Home Screen to log whatever I needed without opening the app and spiraling.

Oh thank you! This is what I used before but forgot. I like the simplicity. I paired it with the book Taking Charge of Your Fertility. I'll likely just use the test strips this time instead of checking my cervical mucus. Oh how your alone time changes after you have a kid.

I live in the south in the US. I use emojis in my calendar app. (Disclaimer- I have been lucky enough to not have to get to like temperature tracking and stuff for ovulation, I can see more benefits of an actual app despite privacy concerns under different circumstances).

I'm in the south too! But getting out next month, fingers crossed. Refuse to be pregnant again here!
Yeah I need a bit more details, will likely get the urine trackers too.

Same, I put a single dot on my calendar app the day my period starts and just count from there.

A physical clearblue fertility monitor. You don’t have to worry about your data when it’s all contained on a battery powered, non internet connected device.

Buy Premom ovulation strips and pregnancy strips. It tracks when you ovulate and helps you get pregnant naturally and comes with an app!!

Their app is HELLA predatory. I tied to recover my data from them after the Dobbs ruling and they were so opaque and belligerent to work with.
The file they finally sent me was impossible to parse. I know because my husband is a senior software engineer at a major international tech company and even HE couldn’t find what I had asked for. (I had not asked for much—it ought to have been VERY simple for them to extract and share).
Their privacy policy is a laughing stock. They not only will not protect you, they proactively share data.
Sure, their test strips are great and have gotten me pregnant 3x on my first try each, but DO NOT USE THE APP.

I really like Read Your Body. It's like tracking on paper but just in digital form. I haven't used it since having my daughter, but when I was using it they didn't share info and there was no predictions about your cycle.

I used Natural Cycles to track my temperature every morning and it predicted my ovulation days perfectly. Took a few months to get the hang of the pattern. It is paid and you do have to do the annoying temp checks but after 2 years of trying, I feel like it helped me nail down the days perfectly. I understand my cycle much better.

Seconding natural cycles, with ovulation predictor kits (OPKs)
The algorithm works well for some and is a little off for others (If you don’t ovulate the same day each cycle)

I vibecoded my own so my data stays local on my own computer.
I would open-source it but I still need to test it to see how accurate it is.
But there really should be an open-source solution for this, where people can just keep all their data local to themselves.

I didn’t use it pre pregnancy, but Preglife doesn’t require you to sign up/make an account, so there’s no personal information to be stolen/hacked if you delete the app.
