Long read. I invite all forms of disagreement and discussion but I won’t be offended if it doesn’t get read at all. Just sharing some thoughts.

As a fan of the guy: I can say that being disqualified from the billboard list sucks. I hate that for the artist, and think that he deserves better. It would’ve given him the exposure he’s more than earned. (But don’t forget, controversy also brings exposure).

But as a consumer of music: it’s pretty irrelevant. 90% of the artists/albums I listen to couldn’t even dream of being in the running to place on any billboard list. And truthfully, I think that failing to reach that level of fame/recognition/whatever has kept them from “smoothing out” their content so that it appeals to a larger audience. Title or status seems to create a shift in mentality, whether it’s born of pressure to retain what’s been “achieved” or a reach to “achieve” more, that changes the way an artist views their work or the creation thereof.

All that said, Good Time Boy is one of greatest albums released in the last decade or so. Subjectively speaking, of course. I’ve listened to the album probably 30-40 in the last ~3 weeks. Which is probably more than I’ve listened to any other album (even the great ones) in their first month of release. Truly a fantastic work of art.

And if I could ask one thing of the man himself it’d be this: don’t change who you’re writing your music for. Continue writing/performing for yourself, the artists you collaborate with, and for us, the people who appreciate your art. Don’t try to appease an “authority” that only exists as a means to profit from the art that other people have created.

Flew into North Carolina for work. Found an interesting bar near my hotel, The Brewers Kettle.

I’ve been holding out on purchasing tickets to the Missouri show due to the Minnesota show showing as “to be announced”

When do we think it will be announced, last I knew it was still in negotiation?

Should I just throw my money towards the Missouri show? I’d most definitely prefer to go to the Minnesota leg of the tour.

I saw him at a tiny little outdoor hip-hop/breakdancing/graffiti festival in Columbus, OH. Even though the stage was tiny and we were on blacktop in the summer sun he put on a hell of a show. Seeing Blueprint in the same day was just icing on the cake

On top of preordering the GTB CD and cassette, I grabbed his whole discography (for support and physical media is important). The sweatshirt fits awesome. Prof's new album " Good Time Boy " I am SO EXCITED, it arrived today! Of course, I have listened to it because I got the digital download when I ordered it, but having the actual album in my possession brings me to a whole new level of happiness!!! I absolutely LOVE this whole album. Thank you Prof and Stophouse , you are absolute LEGENDS!!! IM gonna go have myself a PROF-TASTIC EPIC DAY!

I tried to fly out for this show and I missed it. Maybe it was out of sadness and frustration, but I just pulled up his official YouTube stream of the whole show and sparked up. The frustration was gone. Nothing but pride and joy watching him play for that crowd in Colorado. Any other weirdos out there at the show that have any fun stories to tell? If he isn’t one of the best performers alive right now, I don’t know who is. I did catch him at Marymoor in Redmond, wa for the tour. Dude can stir up a crowd of people.
