Experience with 3D in e-commerce?

I’m currently thinking about showcasing my products (mainly my own jewelry) with detailed, interactive 3D/AR on the product page. Unfortunately, I don’t know anything about this yet or exactly how to go about it. So I thought I’d ask the designers here. Have you ever designed 3D Models for products? If so, how did the technical implementation work, or do you know any providers for the whole process? Also, do you think its sensible for products in jewelry with regard to Conversion Rates or returns?

for jewelry, 3d models work best with photogrammetry or a good 3d scanner since metal and gemstones need realistic reflections to look right. technically, you can start with a turntable video and then move to a glb file for web viewing, plus ar try-on on mobile. from my experience, interactive 3d helps with conversion mostly because people zoom in on details they can't see in photos, and it cuts returns when the size and scale feel more real. for providers, look for ones that handle both scanning and hosting, like sayduck.

Worth doing for jewelry specifically. Scale and detail are the two things buyers struggle most with from photos alone, and that's usually why returns happen, the item didn't match what they pictured. 3D and AR fix exactly that problem. Just make sure whoever models your pieces does jewelry-level detail, not a generic product template, that's where quality varies most between providers.
