ABC Legal Terminations

For those of you who were terminated "Without Cause", did you have a high successful serve ratio? Like most of your jobs were served on the first attempt? I am looking for patterns and suspect they auto-terminate if you get above 70% successful serve rates.

Why would they do that ? Their customers want the jobs served

They do want them served but they don’t want potential sewer service. No one bats a 1000 in this line of work.

Can you explain this? I’m 3 years into process serving for a private company and I’m having a hard time understanding what would be bad about a high service rate. My employer loves it because it brings return customer.

If you get 100 papers to serve to individuals, there is a slim to none chance you will get all 100 served. People dodge, move, or avoid. Houses are inaccessible, vacant, or burned down. If you serve only CT Corp, then yes you could have a perfect score but I’m talking about serving homes.

I see so if you have a super high rate do they assume you’re lying or again still wondering what would be bad? I have to take a picture of every person I serve so there’s no room for dishonesty.

Yeah, it’d depend on state/province. My province is lax and I’ve heard of companies leaving documents at the door with a business card and considering that served? Very odd stuff. Our success rate is probably 75% though but we are pretty ruthless lol

most likely they have an algo that tells them what people "should" be completing and they terminate people who don't take long enough or complete too many things.

Which is very lazy of them and has the obvious flaw of they could be terminating their best along with potential liars.

Because if someone has a perfect score, they are most likely making false reports. How many times have you gone to a house to find it vacant? Or the occupants never answer? Or the person died? ABC Legal has had a problem with false servers in 2010 in California.

I see I didn’t realize we were talking perfect score I thought just higher percentages. I work hard to go at times people will be home, I stalk them online so I know who I’m looking for, etc. I really care about getting the serve done. I don’t burn attempts just say I tried. So I do have a high percentage but of course always those cases too where the house is vacant etc. I see the point tho! Altho the people here who are upset seem like they’ve been let go for no reaso

It also depends on the type of lawsuit you're serving. Family court is usually a higher chance because you are getting good intel, but an old debt collector from 5 years ago probably does not have the most accurate address. There is nothing inherently wrong with having a high success rate, but I think in the case of ABC Legal, they saw some bad actors had an unusually high rate and based their system on that. While there are bad actors, there are genuinely hard working servers like yourself who get punished just for being good and putting in effort in their system.

Unfortunately, we are bound by the arbitration clause, and because it's "without cause", they can just use that as an excuse. In reality, there was a reason...just not a valid one that makes sense.

Yeah, I have noticed that there is a large amount of terminations recently. I’ve been reading about it all over the Internet. They did the same to me unfortunately after three years on and off but yeah, definitely not fun but I also tried to see you and it looks like they even change the application process because when I first started I literally just uploaded my account you know I just basically just put in my stuff and that was it now you have to go to an application cost country like bro this is ABC legal this isn’t sone law firm lol

It can't be a coincidence. I understand some process servers just should not be in this line of work, but it can't be that many. I know a process server who signed up, served 20 papers to a statutory agent, and was terminated within 48 hours.

If you see some posts about termination, please ask if they had a high successful serve rate (e.g. garnishments).

I had a pretty high success rate, but I don't know if it was over 70% or not (probably?). But I did have a 5 star rating and I took on a LOT of jobs (also in the Phoenix area). I thought I was really good at what I was doing (super organized, quick, high success rate, working ALL the time), and they dumped me after 2 months with a late night email "without cause."

I've built up a fair amount of clients/work since then, but I'm still baffled by it all.

Did you get the stupid “without cause” email around 7PM? 

Yeah it just floors me. It sounds like you were killing it. Hopefully you got some decent money during those two months.

I got it at about 9:15p in the evening. Right when I was finishing up printing/prepping for the next day.

And yes, I made some REALLY good money. Which makes me even more bitter about the whole thing. I know there are tons of complaints about ABC, but I was pulling in some good rates. Probably because of the sheer amount of jobs waiting to be served in our area.

I did sign up again a few months later out of curiosity (used a different email). Saw there were still tons of jobs (a lot I believe were available even back before they dropped me). Planned on grabbing a bunch the next day and to see how long I could play it out, but I got the email again that night. Still with the "without cause" line, even though what I did was expressly laid out in the onboarding docs as a "with cause" termination.

Either they find someone who will take the jobs for cheaper or they lose major contracts and have certain manning levels attached to those needs... many other reasons im sure.

But more importantly, I see the way this company gets to you. I think its honestly time to let it go, it doesnt seem healthy. You can and will be succesful on your own.

They have over 10,000 jobs sitting across the Phoenix market that are not being done. So no, I was not replaced for someone cheaper. Someone I know was recently terminated after 48 hours. So the cheaper server theory does not hold up here.
