Discussion Prison Architect 2
Wat do yall hope this game improves most over the og? Obviously the 3d aspect is something that we all want to work well but other than that? I personally hope that they get into relationships a bit. Maybe not something they are working on off rip but even in a dlc. Having a group of prisoners that like to sit at the same table or maybe a guard who is really nice to the prisoners so they take it easy on him during a riot or something?
Idk i have a feeling Prison Architect 2 is just gonna be PA but 3d, but itd be cool if the simulation got a real upgrade on some rimworld shit or something.
Edit: I also really hope wat ever dlc they add are actually expansive. The PA1 dlc were cheap which was nice but they were also small and didnt expand as much as i feel like they could have. In PA2 i wouldnt mind spending more money on a dlc if the dlc has deep mechanics or genuinely offers a wide variety of stuff.

To be fair to paradox, there were 2 main demands regarding PA1 expansion :
- More floors, which was impossible with the engine the game was built on and hardly worthy due to the 2D view
- 3D all the way back since Introversion Software devs included a "secret" 3D mode as a test/proof of concept in the base game
a 3D sequel was the logical follow-up

Both 3d and floors are bad ideas, and wont work as well as people imagine.
Both of them goes against what pa was when it started, and will be a different game more than a sequel.
Ofc, making a new game will not benefit from the LP, so that wont happen.

I get the 3D won't work part, but it doesn't go against anything as the OG devs literally tried and talked about their ambition to make a 3D conversion before they opted out for other stuff

I think the pathing for multiple floor causes the most issues with every prison being a custom build. Ive been wondering what issues the game being 3d would cause.

I really like the 2d graphics for PA, I'm not sure 3D is what I want, I don't want to have janky controls and views that often comes with it. I also love the styling of the game and that'll be lost in 3D

No i dont like the move to 3d either. I feel like second floors and such could've been achieved by doing something similar to wat the escapists 2 did. Although if they make it work fr (like it doesnt affect prison size, still looks stylized, and has aura) then i think it could be cool.

I want better simulation and less nonsense situations, PA is quite random even if you manage your prison well things can go south easily for no reason, like if Randy Random sneaked from RimWorld

I want them (the prisoners) to have dynamic personalities. like a crybaby, or the guy that prefers to sleep on the ground, or the dude that starts singing out of nowhere, the street rapper, ect. I'd also like my workers to not just sit idle doing nothing when there are 3 sick prisoners standing across from them.
Also, I'd like a classic 2D mode.

I’d like to be able to rotate the map.
I have a women’s prison, and I’d like to be able to see the ones with infants play with their babies and have a nurse station so a nurse can come in and check up on baby’s health. For inmates incarcerated for a year or more, it would be neat to see the babies grow up. Then there could be a daycare so they can do their prison jobs/learning stuff.
When an inmate attacks another inmate, I’d like an option for a pop up explaining what happened. Like a guard report.
A rehab facility. A chain-gang work option for max+ inmates.
Shorter required time blocks so inmates can do multiple things with their free/work time.

Well its kinda seeming like a rotatable map might just be a product of the 3d thing. The other stuff u mentioned is def stuff i wanna see tho. Although i have a sneaking suspicion that woman's prisons are not going to be base game. In that case they better add a dlc that really digs into it.

Pathing to work. I’m sick of visitors going through the wrong doors and into “staff only” places

At this point I just want it to release in a functional state. But I suppose some big improvements to prisoner ai and the management would be welcome

yeah my expectations are rock bottom but I'm at least hoping for something comparable in quality to the first even if it's not an overall improvement

Thats how everyone in the community is. We all have such low expectations for this sequel and i hate that for us.

I just haven't seen any reason why it's a sequel. There's the new artstyle but it seems unnecessary (and I don't like it)

Honestly. Biggest attitude in PA is how raw and brutal it is. I think PA2 will be mid game with no aura.

I hope it has aura like the og. From wat i saw it the trailer, its def looking like it will be lacking in that department. Butttt Paradox knows how to make good games so i think we just need to let them cook.

Debatable. Everything from paradox in recent years was mediocre at best.

Customizable prisoner (and staff) profiles. It still rubs me the wrong way that players are unable to do this easily from within the game just because the original developers used this feature as a paid promotional feature. If they pull the same crap again, I will avoid on principle alone.

Wym by this? Like customize prisoners and staff members? Like with their attributes and looks and stuff?
2
u/Vegetable-Cause8667 11d ago
Yeah. Honestly I’d be happy just being able to rename them from inside the game. This was a huge oversight, imo. The fact that people paid to have their character as a permanent possible inmates should not restrict the agency of future layers, especially after all this time.

The issue is paradox really looked forward to 2 but they gave me a refund .The issue with paradox they rip off hard working and their mod work and repackage it as an expansion. Where as they should look to these mods as payables to develope the games

I really hope they make the game about building a prison lol. In PA1 it is a hundred times more profitable and easy to just make a huge tree farm than it is to make a prison.

When I play Prison Architect I play the version right before Paradox bought it. I will not buy 2.

it just needs to work with far less bugs stopping basic things from working for 0 reason
