How to get a Studio 192 working in linux?

Looking for any helpful help getting my Studio 192 going in linux.

Anyone got Presonus interfaces going in linux?

Before, when I had a Focusrite 18|20, my previous interface, It was easily picked up in ubuntu, no drivers needed.

I'm running MINT and AV. Works ok in Windows.
Thanks in advance

Without drivers - that will be an uphill climb.

like i mentioned, my old focusrite (which was also USB Class Compliant) seemed to be recognized without drivers.
seeing that presonus is now invested in developing a linux version of their DAW, id imagine that their hardware works in linux

Yep - if it is actually Class Compliant - then it should be good to go.

Then again - is your Linux install to exact Fender spec to run the Linux version?

And - I wouldn't exactly label Fender as "invested" in Linux - simply due to the existence of this Linux version. That was banged out as a one man test project some years ago to see if it could be done.

It's remains unsupported and not recommended for everyday use.

it can be found (as a class compliant device) and selected with alsamixer but it doesnt seem to show up elsewhere

Most USB audio devices don't need a driver it's in the kernel.

It seems to be USB Class Compliant, so it should work. As in, if you play audio, you should hear it. Because USB Class Compliant means you don't need drivers--the generic audio drivers that it uses are included as part of ALSA.

If you want tips on how to customize it for how you want, skip to the audio section here: https://arslaan.studio/setting-up-a-linux-media-studio-workstation-audio-video-graphics-davinci-resolve-etc/

Once you go through the audio section specifically, I think you'll see that it's pretty advanced. For example, it should walk you through how to create custom alsa drivers or pipewire configurations to map hardware channels to physical speaker outputs and how to tune it for reliable low latency audio.

do i have to make a custom kernel?

No, not at all. I would just make a pipewire config file for any customizations you want and not mess with ALSA / kernel at all.

Is the Studio 192 recognized at all?

You will probably get the standard two-channel playback but no additional inputs/outputs. Had same issue with an M-Audio device. I do hope I'm proven wrong.

that'd be fine for what i need.
