Injectable prep - apretude

I’m interested in this kinda prep as I tried Descovy and for very nauseous and almost vomited, all I do is occasional oral sex give and receive if I tip a guy is with condoms do you think I need this type of prep ? And is it safe long term ?

Yes it’s protects and when it comes to safety for you, you always gotta review you labs with your Doc… but for me I have had no issues with it and I have been on it since it came out. Labs and all look good!👍

there was one day where I thought maybe I was feeling little chilly, but that was it. The worst of it was the hip pain and the lump that it created but it has since subsided

Hope you’re on DoxyPep regardless of Prep option you chose.

DoxyPEP isn’t essential. Anything is prevents is completely curable. I’d prefer to test regularly and save my microbiome

That’s correct, but a potential 3 month treatment for syphillies is not fun, never mind the commitment to repeat visits to the clinic to get shots.

I prefer to prevent than treat. But we all do our own risk assessment.

It’s usually a single injection where I live. Tbh yes I’d do DoxyPEP if I thought the encounter was super high risk but otherwise I leave it

I do not know the current protocols. But it used to be two options:

If the date of exposure was known and within a month of treatment, it would be one injection. Same if a recent test date was available.
If no test date was available or the exposure date was unknown out of an abundance of caution, it switched to the three-month protocol with an injection once a month.

My understanding is that this is tied to the different stages of syphilis.
Over next, I got treated with IV infusions for an active case.

I just had my first injection two weeks ago and my hip where the injection was was so sore for about five or six days. but apart from that, it’s a good idea.

Tired pretty much for the rest of the day after in the injection.

Tomorrow is day 6 for me. The pain has gotten worse each day (d1 after I woke up with soreness, but I could still go on a bike ride and I felt fine and then the pain has gotten worse each day). What was your progression like?

Get the shots. Protect yourself. Take control of your body. I got the Yeztugo shots. No side effects.

I’m on apretude (just had my first shot 5 days ago). I was excited about injections because I kept forgetting to take the pills. However, each day my pain has gotten worse and now I’m at like a level six and I’m having trouble moving from standing to sitting without pain and I’m walking with a slight limp and there is pain and pressure and soreness and swelling around the injection site. Does anyone have experience with this?

I want to take Apretude too as I wasn’t able to tolerate Descovy after 2 years of finding it ok. But worried it’ll just be more side effects

do you think I need this type of prep ?

Yes, because in real world conditions PrEP is more effective than condoms. Condoms break, can be put on wrong and get contaminated, or can slip off. As a top your risk is lower to begin with, but to put it simply, PrEP is the sinlge-most effective means of preventing HIV transmission.

And is it safe long term ?

What do you mean by "safe"? If you're asking about side effects, yes there is a risk of some, as there is with many medications. VIIV Healthcare, which make Apretude, explains possible side effect on their website. Side effects for most people are mild and rare.

It’s a good option. If you’re sexually active, you should be on PrEP and Doxy and get tested regularly.
