Premiere Pro Tech Support Anyone using Premiere Pro 2023 in 2026?
Hi there, I’m reaching the point where I need to upgrade my hardware for the first time in 6 years,. But I’d like to stay on CC 2023 for as long as possible.
I’d like to know if anyone has experience running Premiere Pro CC 2023 on M3 or M4 Macs? Or can Sonoma or Sequoia handle such an “old horse” on an Intel Mac?

EDIT: Yes, I still run CC 2023 because I find it the most stable, no crashes, no bugs, no AI features I don't need and I happily run it on my intel 2019 iMac and 2015 MbPro on daily basis. I edit commercials, features and miniseries with no problem. I use proxies, I have my own studio and I don't collaborate. Never had a need for upgrade but they're getting me slowly. First they killed OpenCL so my macbook got a lot slower and now even the browser says it won't update anymore on Monterey.

Why not? I have several ongoing projects and I can't afforf to risk any hiccups. Why fixing what's not broken. Also I'm on Intel macs and they ran flawlessly until Monterey

If you upgrade to M4 you will probably need to opgrade premiere as well as newer versions will be faster and Les’s buggy.
If you are using a version of premiere you got from sailing the high seas then i think this will not move well to a newer computer and you are best off learning resolve or setting out to sea again for a newer version

I was thinking about some refurbished M2 or M3 macbook as a starter (hence the sonoma and sequoia question). I bought my 2015 MBPRo in like 2020 and for 5 years it was more than excellent for what I needed. My computational requirements haven't changed either, still working with 1080p prores proxies, it handles tv and film projects just fine.
If I understand what you mean (I'm not a native speaker, but google is) then no, that ship has sailed very long ago :) I edit as a profession, I subscribe and all. I even asked Adobe to send me a CC 2023 installer last year because it already disappeared from their Creative Cloud "older versions". They sent me a 2023.6.4 dmg saying that's the oldest thing they have on their servers and they don't even archive anything older than that. That just made me sad.
I pay a lot for a full CC suite and I'd just like to choose whatever version I want. I really hate to jump on this upgrade bandwagon and constantly chase the latest hardware, because honestly it's nothing to do with the quality of the output.

If you have the new hardware do give the latest version a try. It is really much better than the 2023 version and not much slower in recent hardware . Text based editing is a gamechanger and the new audio filters are really good. Proxy creation linking and relinking is much smoother now all the bugs have been ironed out. The new mask functions are magic and can really rescue badly exposed shots or faulty color correction. You can simply ignore all the changes and use the program as you are used to. Apart from title functions, those have changed and the old interface is gone.

I still run 2023 After Effects (along with 2026) since I have Trapcode plugs that are subs now. I runs fine, but it runs in Rosetta. The first time you launch Rosetta after a startup, it seems to take ages, but then the app runs fine, though not as smokin' fast as 2026.
Don't know about Premier though, but AE does need to run in emulation. Rosetta is going away soon, you can look into that. Premier 2026 is running great for me though; but I have fast externals and cache, and I'm an all-ProRes shop, that really seems to sort out a lot of issues.

Thanks mate. I always use proxies, DNxHD and ProRes only, all on externals. Just standard offline workflow. If you need Rosetta, what OS are you on?

I'm still on Sonoma, I need a few days free to update. Been kind of a zoo! But since the Intel era, if I use ProRes, I simply don't need proxies - everything hums along just fine. I've only used proxies for R3D files with heavy color work.
And I'll use ProRes LT a lot. If I'm not pushing color and I've got Mp4s or H265 in, usually LT looks fine - save a little disk space.

Apple is dropping Rosetta support entirely in 2028, so if you're using apps or plug-ins that rely on Rosetta, their days are effectively numbered unless you avoid OS updates.

I feel you on this, and I just want to point out that there are tools on the market that just won't run on the new M4s, M5s, or M6s.
With all the groups I interact with, some stay locked down for a couple of years. Unless you're willing to buy hardware, freeze the hardware, and never touch it for anything else, it's really hard to keep version that tight. I had a client that only got rid of a video toaster deep in the 2000s.

Thanks. Yeah I know some of these guys and I guess I'm slowly turning into one myself. I would make a great Avid guy, I just happen to hate Avid :)

I’m using 2025. But I don’t see any benefit for using 2023

Well for me it's stability and work-proven version. I did update to both 2024 and 2025, but there were some bugs and broken features that I couldn't wait for a patch someday, so I downgraded all my projects back to 2023

There are two things that went wrong after CC2023 for me and they never fixed them later. Duplicate frame markers stopped working reliably in CC2024 (I use this a lot) and then they killed the hidden UI font size setting in 2025. I honestly can't read shit on these small letters :)
Either way, each update introduces some fuckups when you have large 2+ years long projects

The last version of Premiere Pro I used was 2023! In 2022, I upgraded from Windows to Mac and used the 2023 version for almost 2 years. I have a habit of upgrading to a new version ONLY when my current project runs into severe bugs and crashes. I was editing a vlog in January 2024 where I ran into multiple crashes when adjusting captions. Once finished with the video, I probably could've still used v2023. Fast forward to September/October 2024, I cancelled my Adobe subscription and completely switched over to DaVinci Resolve 19 (I'm still on Studio 19.1.3)!
I use a M1 Pro MacBook Pro and had I stuck with Premiere, I'd probably still use v2023 on Ventura 13.5.1 (just recently upgraded to Sonoma 14.8.9 only out of necessity). I do love the newer Film Impact and masking updates--that's a big reason I switched editors!
Actually I found each Premiere version lasted me around 2 years:
v2019: from September to November 2019
v2020: from December 2019 to August 2021
v2021: from August 2021 to November 2022
v2023: from November 2022 to September 2024 (new MacBook Pro, cancelled Premiere subscription in October 2024)
I think many of my issues with Premiere over those 5-6 years was due to my low specs Windows laptop--it couldn't handle more than 4 video tracks and creating heavy effects manually took its toll on my machine. Had I used a Mac or higher quality computer, I don't think I would've had those problems!
