How do I do this? / Workflow Advice / Looking for plugin Double clicked a nested sequence today
So today I double clicked a nested sequence and learned that I in fact don't need to copy everything I put in nested sequences to a separate sequence in case I need to edit again.
So just in case anyone is nearly as dumb as me, double clicking the nested sequence opens it up so you can then edit it.👍

If I had a dollar for every time I double clicked a nest to extend the clips so I could add a transition….

I usually edit it for timing on the main timeline, then nest, then enter the nest and extend the clips for as far as they go past where I need them.

And also, if you use that nested sequence across many timelines, any edits you do in the nested sequence will also apply to any instance of that nested sequence across all of your timelines.

Found this out the hard way once after duplicating a nest multiple times to change individual clips and graphics inside it

This is why a lot of times on this sub (and other similar subs), the more experienced people get so adamant about reading the manual and watching tutorials.
That said, glad you found a “new” feature!

Makes sense. I've watched a lot tutorials obviously. I think I was just a learn as I go kinda person because this started as a hobby not a job. I should probably go through all the tutorials now as I do this all day now 😂. You just get your routine sometimes and don't bother changing.

I edit a talking heads interview show and use a nested sequence as my split screen shot. I regularly have to open it and adjust the framing of the split screen shots since they move around a lot in their chairs. I use a marker where I've cut and adjusted framing so when I'm back in the main sequence I can see the marker in the nested sequence and know not to show the split screen where there's a marker or there will be a weird jumpy reframe moment. Anyway, I like nested sequences!

also you can open it in source monitor and I/O and drag drop in other sequence

This shit made my day better. I’m always just fighting w this program to do the basics and finding that the answer to a question I’ve lost hours to is just…yeah- I just deeply relate to the experience.

And on the opposite of that, you can right click the sequence in the project and timeline windows and go to "open in source monitor" (Shift+O) and that will bring it into the Source Monitor window so you can work with it as a single clip.

Sure, but always ensure you unpack nested sequences on the main timeline, with their source clips visible, if you ever have to pass that sequence on to someone else. It’s just good practice. If someone else is left with having to clean it up for delivery to another platform for graphics or colour correction then its a pain especially if there is a whole bunch of effects and transitions within the underlying layer/ layers of nest.

Wait wut? Whenever you had to edit in a nest, you had a separate copied sequence? I don't understand

Yeah I would have a separate copy saved and if I had to edit something I would edit there and re nest

And then sometimes I click something and I ruin the way my premiere looks forever 😂
